Always helps to have a 6’10 future NBA player on the roster 😉

Did I say he did it by himself? I’m just pointing out the obvious that it’s definitely beneficial having a future pro athlete.  He didn’t win it by himself.. but they probably don’t win it without him either.

I have no doubt that intense work wasn’t put in.  That’s true with every professional athlete.  There are tons of huge guys that didn’t make it because of that very fact.

Not hate whatsoever.  You also can’t deny that had he been 6’1 with that same work ethic, Ozen doesn’t win it that year.  Don’t misconstrue my point.. the player (including his size) that he turned into was an integral part.

All points that you made were valid, especially this point, "There are tons of huge guys that didn’t make it..." Again, If you are so kind to purchase the book, you will find out and understand my point very clearly. That team had 7 D1 players on the team which included an NFL Guy. Big Perk definitely played a huge role in the teams success but that team was pretty deep...  I digress...

  2. If you read the book you will gain a better understanding about the process... I been knowing Perk since 2nd or 3rd grade and he worked extremely hard to get to that point but in the beginning no-one looked at him and said that he was a pro. It is a testament to the guys that help develop him... Facts over fiction... He is my brother and he knows that I only speak the truth...

It just came off as hate but if that wasn't your intent, My Bad...

Panther Mile: Chasing Perfection BY: Michael Thomas (Player on the Team)

Panther Mile is a story about a group of young men, who through the game of basketball, would become state champions. This story gives the reader an inside look at how the foundation was laid at Clifton J. Ozen High School. It also highlights the personal sacrifice that each individual player and coach had to endure during that time. This story gives young people hope that anything is possible through hard-work and dedication.

If Yates wins state this year they will be top 5 in my opinion.
  6. First, I would like to start by congratulating the Huntsville Hornets on beating a good Ozen Team. Ozen had a good season and have nothing to hang their heads about.

Second, Coach Saveat (Interim Head Coach) did an excellent job under all the scrutiny. Under his leadership Ozen advance to the 3rd round of the play-offs and went16-2 overall with a District Championship. He deservers to be the 20 4A (13-1) Coach of the year. It is extremely hard to follow a legend  in Coach Boutte but he (Coach Saveat) was and still is the right man for the Ozen job.

Ozen will be back stronger and more discipline next year. So as fans, coaches and sports writers, who like to criticize, just get ready to jump back on the band wagon like you always do. Like I said earlier, Huntsville was the better and more discipline “TEAM.â€

  7. [size=18pt]This is my top 10 from Ozen

    1. Kendrick Perkins- All everything

    2. Keena Young- 3rd team All Power Bar, All state, All Region, and All District

    3. Kris Richards-1st team All State, All Region, All District

    4. Albert Marshall-2nd team All State, All Region, All District

    5. Desmond Cooper-All Region, All District

    6. Mack Randall- All State, All Region, All District

    7. Joe Lamb- All Region, All District

    8. Tigee Rideaux- Academic All State, All District

    9. DeCarlos Frank-All State, All Region, All District

10.â€P-nutt†Boutte - All State, All Region, All District

  8. This is Mike T. from Ozen. Doobie and Skip were better than Albert and me. I personally learned a lot from Skip and Doobie. It do not matter who is better because both backcourts helped the teams win. I speak to Doobie all the time and he is the best shooter to come out of BMT and I played with skip when I was 7 years old.

As a point guard I think team first and then myself. That team was special and Albert and I needed every person on the roster to be successful. I was just a good role player with some great players and coaches.

I do believe that our team was the best team to come out of BMT. Out of 17 players 13 of us have college degrees and 4 playing pro B-Ball and Football. No team compares to that in BMT. That’s why that team was the best and so special. You measure a team’s greatness by their success on and off the floor.
