  1. Oh yeah, Crosby is going to be a tough team to beat. QB is solid and can scramble, but need to work on that run game. That will come in time.

I was worried about our run game after losing BJ Foster and Tamerik Williams, but those 3 or 4 rbs that Angleton have are all tough runners with good speed. I think we’ll be ok there.

As far as injuries, I didn’t see anyone get hurt last night for both teams other than our TE #11 take a wicked shot going up for a catch down the middle and getting hit in mid air. He held on to the ball but came back to the sideline afterward. Looked like maybe he got the wind knocked out because the trainer really wasn’t working on anything on him so maybe that’s all it was. Well I hope so because he’s our QB’s favorite receiver. Anyway good luck to Crosby. To bad we won’t meet again because I think you all are in division 2.

  2. Crosby has some talented kids on their team. QB has a lot of potential, but their offense had trouble moving the ball consistantly. Angletons defense looked really good. Crosby’s two scores were from quick screens that caught Angleton on blitzes. Crosby’s defense had trouble stopping Angletons offense. They consistently moved the ball on long drives both on the ground and through the air. All in all, good first scrimmage for both teams predicted to be ranked teams during the season.

you would think with the problems they have had over there winning games they would open this up to an outside hire, let somebody come in with fresh ideas

You're joking right? They just made it to the state semifinals last year and have made the playoffs every year since 2008, getting 4 rounds deep 4 times. I don't think winning was a problem with Coach Roark at Angleton.

  4. You are correct, that's LCM to the right in the white banana hammock.

You guys on this board are funny as hell! Literally funny as hell! :)

And your right Cougar, Angleton just doesn't match up well with the Cougars. Just like we always have problems with GR and recently Foster. Play them close, but they always seem to make one or two more plays than us. Crosby just has our number I guess.

I think this will be a fun game to watch. The way our offense has been playing lately though, if the defense doesn't have another good game it could be a long night for the Cats.

  5. LCM lost to Huffman, I doubt they would beat Angleton's jv. They also have about twice the kids LCM does so it's a completely different animal at the line of scrimmage, not to mention they just have better athletes in general. They've been to at least the third round three of the last five years which is why you probably don't hear them complaining about the offense.

Actually our JV was pretty good. Went 9-1. Only lost to GR of course but it was very close.:)

  6. well maybe if they would go to different  offense they would make it  past the 3rd round.

Angleton hasn't made it past the 3rd round because they just lost to a better team that made less mistakes. The Cats lost to Pearland Dawson in the 4th round, Beaumont Central, Brenham, Georgetown and last year Hutto in the 3rd round. You don't need to run the spread offense to succeed. Seems like almost everyone runs the spread now. Whatever offense you run, if you can execute it well and you have the right athletes to run it, you can succeed IMO. Now I am no way comparing Angleton to Katy, but Katy has ran the same offense for years and you know what to expect when you play them. That's running the ball sweep left, sweep right or right up the gut and a pass here and there. They just execute it to perfection and no one can stop it. They don't need to spread you out to move the ball.

  7. Having angleton's cbs at 5'10" could spell them a problem with png's big wr.  Sullivan is 6'1" ,  Giblin is 6'3". Mczeal is 6'4"

I see PNG has some good size at WR. The Angleton corners have faced some big receivers and have done a good job so far. They played against 2 D1 receivers at Foster that were 6'3 in Lamb and Fairs and against St. Thomas, they played against 3 receivers that were at least 6'3. It will be a challenge though. The Dline will have to put pressure on the QB to help these corners out.

  8. I have to go with PNG. If Angleton is in the outdated wing t aka pop warner offense, it's going to be a long night for the wildcats. During the scrimmage this year with LCM and PNG the Indians controlled the game. Not saying much because we still don't know how to run it lol

Ennis won state just recently running that offense, so it isn't so outdated.

As far as the secondary, both corners are 5'10, 165lbs. One corner is a Texas State commit. Both safeties have good size. One is 6'2, 175 and is a junior. He has multiple D1 offers. The other safety is Angletons best playmaker and is only a sophomore. He is 6'3, 180 and very athletic. He has offers from multiple Big 12 schools. Both of those kids didn't play against Crosby.

  9. It's all about how your playing right now and I think the Indians are playing good football. Dayton has been a thorn in their playoff side and that was a huge hurdle PNG got past. Angleton plays a similar style game to Dayton and I think PNG will be up for the task. Port Neches Groves 42, Angleton 28.

Actually, Angleton and Dayton are nowhere near similar. Angleton runs the wing-t offense. Also the Wildcats have a much better defense than Daytons. Most points given up was to Crosby and again they were missing 4 defensive starters that game. Don't know if PNG has faced any wingt offenses, but Angleton has played similar offenses that the Indians run. Foster runs the same offense and they have more athletes then PNG and the Cats gave them lots of problems. Again I'm sure PNG is a heck of a team or they wouldn't be playing, but I think Angleton will give them a heck game.

  10. Unless Angleton has improved a whole bunch since week 2.  I got PNG by at least 2 Td's.  Morse will gash them and they just couldn't throw the ball, like, at all.

Angleton is much better than when they played Crosby. Angleton pretty much limped into that game having lost 3 senior starters for the year in the 1st week, including their best RB, lost their best 2 athletes in the secondary, their starting DE and starting LB. That opening game was rough and then having to turn around and play a very talented Crosby team would be tough for anybody, not to mention having a freshman starting QB in only his second game. I think we could have gave Crosby a better game and not get blown out. We've played better recently. Gave George Ranch all they wanted going in 14-14 late in 3rd only to shoot ourselves with 2 bad turnovers that GR capitalized on, beat a good Calhoun team and held them to their lowest point output in their season and lead Foster 14-0 at half only to have the momentum turn completely around in the 2nd half on a successful fake punt and another turnover that they scored on. I will say that our offense has been sputtering these past 3 weeks but the defense is playing real good though. They will have to play at their top level against PNG because it looks like PNG can put some points on the board. Only game I can gauge between these 2 teams is the Foster/WOS game. WOS beat PNG 28-14 and then they get blown out by Foster 42-14. We played Foster pretty even as that we controlled the 1st half and they controlled the 2nd and made a few extra played to win it. But I know every game is different, especially in the playoffs where anything can happen. We'll see how it goes.

  11. Coach Roark has faced Coach Van Meter twice and won both, 42-28 and 48-21 in the same year. This was Van Meters last year at FWood. I looks like Van Meter is running the same offense, but looks to have a little more speed at Hutto. The Wildcats will have to use the same ground and pound game plan to beat Hutto, but without the turnovers. Never been to the Berry Center so I'm pumped about next Saturday.
  12. Wildcat979, I wouldn't say they don't have a passing game, just not a consistant passing game. QB Jackson has thrown for over 600 yards and actually threw for 2 scores last week and another against Foster. In that Foster game I counted 4 dropped passes that were on the money. Now you look at programs like El Campo that maybe has 50 yards passing all season, or Calhoun that has the same amount, now those teams have no passing game, but the run the ball extremely well. Angleton isn't going to change anytime soon. They are a run heavy football team and have been good at it for a while now.

And yes they don't have that breakaway runner in the backfield, besides Jackson. But Hall and Franklin are big, physical runners. I hope we can make a game of this.

  13. *paging ATWildcat*

I'm here, just sitting back and reading all these comments about GR and Dayton and it starting to sound like they are the ones playing against each other. We'll just show up and play the best we can and see what happens. If we get our tails kicked in, I'll be here to congratulate and wish you well.
  14. Crosby is surely talented enough to win this game, but don't expect PLC to be a pushover. Those kids already are playing with a chip on their shoulders due to the fact that alot of people expected them to not be able to compete against the teams in region 3, probably even their own friends and family, so those kids feel like they need to prove something. Even when they were down and the game was lost against us, they still played like they were down by 1 point and with a chance to win. I'm sure the Crosby coach will have his kids ready for this.

They were expected to lose against Marshall and pretty much beat them down after spotting them 14 points, so their confidence is really high right now. Wish I could see this game in person.

  15. I believe that from our game with Crosby their defense is fast enough to penetrate into the backfield against PLC and shut them down.  If they can do that then I am sure their offense should seal the deal!  Go Coogs!, Paint San Antonio RED!!!

I don't think being fast enough will stop that PLC offense. Yes having that speed helps. but you have to be extremely disciplined to stop that offense and read the keys or you will overun the play. One weakness they do have is that they have fumbled alot and yes they don't have a passing game. They like to grind out yards and play keep away from the opposing offense. Crosby traveled well when they played Angleton and I'm sure they will be at the Alamodome, but it will seem like the whole town of Port Lavaca will be there, especially since it will be in SA.  Will be an interesting game to follow.

  16. Not saying our district or your district is superior. Just saying that Angleton won't be a pushover just because we lost big to Crosby and Dayton took them down to the wire. We're just much better than we were in week 1 as Dayton can say the same. I don't think we're the big dog here, I just hope for a hard hitting close game.
  17. So your going off of a game played back in September? I'm sure Crosby or Dayton aren't the same team from back in week 1. If that was the case Dayton may not be playing now by how bad they looked early on, but they turned it around. Same can be said about Angleton and after playing against the caliber of teams like GR and Foster, I think they're ready for anything. We'll see how this turns out.
  18. Just wondering if any of you guys have watched Angleton play this year? I know I haven't seen Dayton play so I can't make a prediction on this game. By looking at the scores that the Broncos have given up, I would say Angleton may light up the scoreboard this Friday. But predicting this game would be hard. I'll just say the team wearing purple will win. lol
  19. I hear Angleton is the home team, but last week I read Angleton would be the home team only to find out at the game that they were wearing white.

I recall Dayton had a bruiser of a running back on that 2002 team that we couldn't stop. Dayton ended up losing that next week 7-3. Don't remember who the team was they lost to.

As far as the stadium, Angleton alumni are very familiar with Veterans Memorial when we played there numerous times while in the ccisd district. I played on that field back in the late 80s, early 90s and from what I remember, there as a very small sideline from the edge of the stands to the playing field. It should be a fun game to watch. And yes traffic could be bad. CCISD is building another stadium set to open next year and it looks very impressive.
  20. Yeah, I think we (Angleton) have some payback to get from Dayton. I'm not talking about regular season games, but playoff playback. I believe back in 2002 we played the Broncos and lost in the area round 31-14. I expect a heck of a game. I was hoping for Pasadena memorial stadium or Channelview, but Veterans stadium you are sitting real close to the action so that will be nice.
