29 years years ago was my last first day in pads as a Senior. We got the mid-practice water break but instead of plain water, we got Quick-Kick. Our student manager mixed it up in a 5 gallon GOTT water cooler and we always knew what flavor we were getting by the color of the arm he used to stir it up! We were so thirsty we would have drank the stuff even if he'd used his foot to do the stirring! Today's coaches are a lot smarter and keep the kids hydrated during practice.

No offense meant or taken on my part either! Buna played EC well as did Warren & Deweyville. Obviously I think EC is the preseason favorite but so many things can happen over the course of a season like injuries, academic issues, players quitting, lack of team chemistry or just bad luck that makes it impossible to predict which team will come out on top.

I agree. Mart has a great program regardless of whether the talent is home grown or they benefit from being near a major metropolitan area. It's not uncommon for parents to work in the city but prefer their kids go to school in a smaller community.

One thing's for certain .......... 24-AA is going to be very competitive this year. Barring significant injury to key players, I look for EC, Buna & DV to secure playoff spots with Kountze being the dark horse. Anahuac is somewhat of a mystery. They have talent & a new HC and it will be interesting to see how that combination comes together.

Give it a rest. > Newton has a good team and great tradition but they got beat in the second round of the playoffs last season just like EC so I don't think you guys have too much to crow about.

Getting good players from Waco isn't anything to be ashamed about.

Day 2 comments seem to be a little slow in coming. Coaches musta worked em extra hard today.

Mart is a bedroom community for Waco. They get good athletes that aren't talented enough to make the rosters on the 4A & 5A schools in Waco.

First practice proves which kids worked out all summer and which one's sat on their tail watching tv or playing video games. I don't get too excited until they put the pads on this Friday.

EC started with a team meeting at 8:15 then practice 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. I think Coach V let 'em have an hour break around 11:00 AM.

High School football has finally returned! I've had my fill of baseball (watching the Astros stink up the field) and I'm ready to watch the High School warriors return to the gridiron! Good luck to all the kids and teams in SE Texas.

I agree. There's a big difference in cursing around a HS player and cursing at them. I have no problem with the former and a big problem with the latter. I do get a kick out of the parents that get their panties in a wad because their son's coach let fly with an F-bomb or an occasional vulgarity. Usually they're the same people that sit on the front pew in church but sin like beelzebub during the weekdays. Hypocrates seem to make the most noise.

As a parent I have no problem with a football coach cursing around my son, after all, it's football not freakin' church! Disclaimer: I am somewhat of a pagan myself.

Mart, Marlin & Tatum are all loaded. Either would be favored over a team from SE Texas (AA). Any team that beats Mart, Marlin or Tatum has a pretty good shot at taking the title.
