  1. I watched the DV - Hardin game and I am impressed by Hardin. The Hornets have good overall team speed.
  2. Somebody just got OWNED! ;D
  3. All Star teams are seldom successful because the focus tends to be on STAR instead of ALL. I wouldn't bet on either.
  4. This reminds me of a coach I had in HS named Stocky Lamberson. One day a school board member with a son on the team requested a meeting with Stocky. Stocky asked "will I be meeting you as my boss or as a parent?" The school board member stammered "As a parent." Stocky replied "Then get the hell outta my office!"
  5. I played against Kenny King of Clarendon. Kenny played FB at OU and went on to the NFL with the Oakland Raiders. One of the best HS RB's I ever saw play was a kid named Brad Beck from Perryton Texas. He received a scholarship from UT. He was so good, UT's Fred Akers gave his dad a job as assistant coach to ensure they could sign him. UT didn't work out for Brad. I understand he allowed the temptations of Austin to get the better of him.
  6. Being a homecoming queen escort was one of the perks reserved for the team captains when I played. Aaaaah ....... nothing like kissing a homecoming queen. *sigh* The good old days. ;D
  7. Add Ohio to the list. It would be a toss up between Florida, California, Texas & Ohio.
  8. DV advanced & EC stayed home.
  9. I'm 46 and all my Rutherford cousins are in their mid to late 50's. None of them were into athletics. They were more interested in raising & racing horses. I'm sure they were familiar with your family's business. Do you remember when the Long's Wax Museum was in Claremore?
  10. For those that have never watched it, six man is pretty exciting. If you love offense with lots of scoring, the 6 man game is a treat. I think Texas is the only state that allows it. Oklahoma schools play 8 man and it is just like 11 man but with fewer players. Of course I prefer the 11 man game but for those schools too small to field a regular team, six man beats nothing at all.
  11. I can't figure out why the smaller schools in East Texas haven't picked up on it. Guess they figure no football is better than playing the 6 man variety.
  12. I'm stretching back 35 years or more but their property adjoined a paved county road and it would take you to Claremore. They had a huge Dutch barn made of rock that sat on the west side and directly adjacent to the paved county road. They had 4 kids (2 boys & 2 girls) and only one of the boys remains in NE Oklahoma. He sells real estate & lives in Tulsa.
  13. My aunt and uncle owned a ranch about 3-4 miles north of Inola. They raised Appaloosa race horses. I spent many summers there as a kid and at the race track in Claremore. My aunt and uncle were named Rutherford and are both deceased and buried in Inola.
  14. For whatever it's worth, I have put 4 kids through Varsity athletics (been raisin' kids for 27 years) and I have seen a lot of referees in that time. In my experience, home town referees tend to favor the visiting team more than the home team. Most referees are good, honest (albeit sometimes visually challenged ) people and sometimes show a bias toward the visitors to avoid any appearance of impropriety. I don't believe they do it intentionally, it just happens.
  15. In another thread a comment was made about Chester having a "numbers" problem and it got me to wondering. Do any of the smaller schools in SE Texas play 6 man football? I know a lot of schools in West Texas & the Panhandle play this style of football enabling them to continue fielding a team. These games are neat to watch and are very high scoring.
  16. 2 of the 4 teams will not make it past the first round.Newton and Corrigan-Cambden will be tough nuts to crack for EC and Buna.
  17. No. Every job has plusses and minuses and coaching is no different.
  18. Ever been to Inola?
  19. Buck Sweep don't hold back ..... tell us how you really feel about Buna. ;D
  20. EC has the Rice Festival to contend with. I think it's a greater distraction for the players than homecoming.
  21. West Virginia @ South Florida Notre Dame @ Purdue Oklahoma @ Colorado California @ Oregon Michigan St. @ Wisconsin Clemson @ Georgia Tech Alabama @ Florida State USC @ Washington Auburn @ Florida Louisville @ N.C. State
  22. OC - Steve Spurrier or Mike Leach DC - Mike Stoops or Bo Pellini Special Teams - Joe Avenzano or Frank Beemer
  23. Unlike NCAA Div. 1A .... poll rankings don't mean squat at the HS level. Thank goodness champions are determined on the field rather than by a bunch of sportswriters.
