You mean kinda like how when this age group was there how we went to all the super bowls and y'all barely made the playoffs or was 1 & done? Or do you mean how that some of that same age group from Lumberton has made the playoffs at least once as varsity players and your group has yet to make the playoffs as varsity players?

Give them a break. They ONLY have about 8 weeks to do a schedule. They have to have time to see who's good and who's not so they'll know who to match up with their teams.

LMAO..I just looked out my office and seen a bunch of smoke coming from 850..thought the unit was on fire, just to realize it's the thoughts and hopes coming from you and Roberts head on who can get in the 4th spot between the Raiders and Pirates...but I think the jags may have something to say about that..well actually I think Lee,Ozen, and Livingston might kick the pirates out the way..

Who knows? You just might be surprised! QB with a live arm! Secondary will be getting some help back around the start of district play. First 2 weeks everyone will be gaining experience. I think we will be alright fighting for the 4 spot or possibly even the 3 spot. You need to just keep the family quarrels down to a minimum! Awful quiet over in Nederville these days! Seems like everyone's just hoping and praying, not knowing what to expect. Kinda like y'all at a fork in the road and no one knows which route y'all gonna take!

What annoys me is when people who have no ties to the kids or the programs try to give their opinions without knowing all the facts or the situations of these kids. Yes football is an extra curricular activity and athletes are held to a higher standard. Athletic programs are educational programs also. An opportunity for coaches who are also educators to instill life lessons into these kids and make them better adults who will be entering adulthood in the very near future. Each situation should be looked at for its situation. Kids come from different backgrounds. Some have both parents at home. Some have one parent at home. Some have no parents at home. At the end of the day, its not about sports, its about the kids. There should be consequences! There should be discipline! There should be forgiveness!  If he screws up once, who helped make a difference? If he screwed up twice, who helped make a difference? There should be an opportunity to right the wrong! If there are 200 kids in the program and the coaches have an opportunity to change 1 kids life, that is what it is about! To have a kid comeback 10-15-20 years later and say thank you coach! You changed my life, Kicking the kid to the curb is not always the correct thing to do! Taking the one thing that may bring structure to a kids life is not always the answer. Instead of being critical and demanding of what should be done, be part of the solution! Kids need mentors! Leaders! Both fellow teammates and adults. I know a lot of the kids who are Sophs, Jrs, And Srs all over SETX at this time from BMT, Lumb, WOS, NED, Vid, & PNG. No one school is immune! No one kid is immune! No one family is immune! I am hear to help make a difference in anyone of their lives! Step up! Man Up! Lead!

    Well said!
Don't know much about Barbay other than my Dad played for his father @ Newton. Typically if you want to know about a coach, you get no better an interpretation of the man than to hear it straight from a former student or player of his! Though few may not realize it at the time, later in life they usually understand the purpose he played in their lives. I've heard my Dad recollect about playing for his Father Curtis Barbay all the time. Sounds like Jasper just ran off a Quality Football coach for no apparent reason!

This is the most asinine thing I have ever read. How can it be that he would be reassigned for these reasons with no prior warnings or rebuke on the issues you have stated? This is truly an excuse that is being circulated by those who are well aware of the fact that they have wronged the Barbay family. I was privileged to play for Coach Barbay for two years (one when he was an assistant, and then the first year he was hired as a HC). That was 16 years ago so he was quite a bit younger and I would assume he was quite a bit less refined. Even then he did not exude the attributes that this post has assigned to him, so I have no reason to believe that his character has degraded over the past 16 years. He took over that team before my senior year when most of us seniors felt like we had been abandoned. He made it clear early on that we were in good hands and that he was the right man for the job. He invested in each one of us and had a special place in his heart for the kids on our team who didn't get the support they should have from home. I personally watched him load groups of kids into his truck after practice and take them home because their parents didn't come pick them up. I watched him pick those same kids up at 6:00 am in the summer to make sure they had a ride to the field house to lift weights or participate in summer practices. I watched him make guys miss practice so they could work with their teachers to improve their grades. I've seen him imbed himself in a community and work to make it better. I watched him start a girls softball program and make himself the head coach. He coached softball for years and really enjoyed it! He did all of this while serving as the athletic director, the head football coach, and teaching classes. No one is perfect, and Coach Barbay surely isn't, but to remove him from this position in Jasper for absolutely no reason at all is an injustice that shouldn't be overlooked. This is not something that the community of Jasper should be proud of and if it were me, I would ensure that each board member who is serving now would not be serving any longer once their term ends. I cannot bring myself to root against the kids of JISD, but I will sure as heck root against those adults who have done this. I really hope they get Garrett Morgan-ed again because that is exactly what they deserve.
Barbays, on to bigger and better things. JISD has stolen a lot more from you than a job. This thing extends way beyond employment, but you guys are resilient and will bounce back. I am reminded of a phone call that I had with Coach Barbay right after he was hired as AD/HC at HD, and a few weeks after our previous head coach had left right before my senior year. He said to me:  "I know you are disappointed in the way things have transpired, but you can either cry about it and waste one of the best years of your life, or you can fight like hell to be better than you have ever been to prove that this team is as great as we know it is. And if you make the decision to fight, I promise you I'll be fighting right beside you." He is the kind of man that doesn't just encourage you to fight, but stands shoulder to shoulder with you in the battle. He has fought beside lots of us, and now it's our turn to fight beside him. #BackTheBarbays

Raider24 reacted to WOSgrad in Monte Barrow named new HC/AD at Nederland!
A couple of thoughts in this matter.  First, like my bud prepballfan, I have no vested interest in the outcome of this search other than being a fan of football in this area.  That being said, when it was time for my alma mater to move on from a long time successful coach, they chose a longtime assistant.  If I may say so, that transition has turned out pretty well.  There is something to be said in stability of a program and a seamless transition to a trusted assistant.  Now, I know Monte Barrow only by reputation, but everything I have heard, both in and outside of Nederland paints, him as a coach capable of continuing what Coach Neumann built.  So logic would dictate that Coach Barrow be given the opportunity to continue the program on its current track.
And it appears that several feel that way.  If you are one of them, you might want to take a little bit more interest that just posting your support here.  Call the board members and the superintendent A LOT, they know the score and even if it appears not, they are listening.  And this is the time to express your preference.
For when the decision is made, it is time for the campaigning for a coach to stop.  It is kind of disturbing to see the forecasts of gloom and doom should Coach Barrow not be the NISD's choice.  No coach, no matter how talented, will be successful if the community does not support him.  I have seen in before, when a community comes out of the chute going after a coach, it does not end well and the rebuild after such a disaster is more difficult and takes a lot more time than folks think....sometimes, it is never rebuilt.
Sure, right now, throw your support behind Coach Barrow if he is your choice and go all in on that support.  But when the choice is made, go all in behind the guy that is chosen.

Raider24 reacted to TxHoops in Was Punishment to Hard on Devin Mccain
I would encourage the "adults" of Silsbee to try and ensure the whole point of the punishment is not missed.  Devon is young and has 2 more years of high school ball.  He is a good kid and is loved by many.  Human nature, and especially for kids, is that when you get put on a pedestal for so long, you begin to think you can do what you want.
This thing has gone viral thanks to a guy from Orange who thought it a good idea to post the video clip all over social media.  Now I've seen it on Bleacher Report, etc.  Regardless, I believe this will be largely forgotten by the public in general 2 years from now when he graduates.  Assuming he learns and behaves the way he knows how to on the court.  When you are as supremely talented as he is, you don't need to do a dang thing but play to shine.  He has that advantage over 99 percent of the kids he will play at the high school level.
Conversely, if this opportunity is taken to make him a martyr, the great benefit he can actually RECEIVE from this whole ordeal will be robbed from him.  He won't be as likely to learn anything from this and will be prone to think he is being mistreated.  That would be a HUGE disservice to Devon in my opinion.  Because if he doesn't take this experience and grow from it, and makes any similar mistakes in the future, he could be branded beyond repair and just about as bright a future as you will see around here in basketball will be wasted.
So I beg the adults around him to help him understand what is to be GAINED from this and keep the focus where it should be.  He's a smart kid with a huge heart who has always been very coachable.  That inherently means he's also teachable.  Anyone with a dialogue with him should make sure that's exactly what happens with this.
