1. I'm a teacher for another school district. I know a little about district pay scales.
2. I love our district, but we don't pay our teachers/coaches very well. I absolutely cannot blame anyone for moving on up the salary scale.
3. Team Mizuno Red 05 is having a car wash and bake sale today at Taco Bell at 4630 Twin City Hwy in Groves until 4:00 today. Come out and support a great group of girls!
4. Bumping this up as a reminder about tryouts tomorrow.
5. Did anyone go to this last year? I'm thinking of taking my 7 year old to it this year, but was wondering if the $180 for one day is worth it. It just seems high compared to LU's other camps (baseball is $250 for 5 days and girls basketball is $150 for 3 days).  I don't mind paying, if it's worth it.
6. Playoff brackets are up on the STJFL website.  You might have to refresh your screen to see them.
7. From the STJFL Bylaws: ARTICLE XII: DRAFTING OF TEAMS SECTION 1: 1        Players shall return to the team from the previous season if they qualify for the same division.
8. Small School: 1. WOS 2. BC 3. OF 4. Ktz 5. LC is what I see. Does anyone know why WOS and LC have 5 conference games while the others have 4?
9.
75-0 ever heard of running the clock. You can say what you want but scoring 75 in a pee wee football gm is ridiculous I don't care if you have your 3rd string in. That's classless on behalf the coaches from Bmt coaching staff I have been in this league since the stjfl formed and have never seen a score like that. so that tells me once they got up by 28-0 they couldn't have had a continuous running clock, and they should have. They should be punished for posting a score like that, so much for teaching your kids sportsmanship they should be ashamed of their selfs, the Bmt coaches that is.
Simmer down.  PNG-G's head coach posted two ahead of you and had no complaints, so why should you?
10. I would also like to thank the Junior and Senior cheerleaders and coaches for making us feel so welcome.  Thank you, ladies.  Y'all rock!
11.
Sometimes that works to your advantage, that way all of your best players play the whole game. More players doesn't necessarily equal a better team, at least not in our league.
It's hard to go out there and be competitive playing both sides all four quarters against players who are only playing offense or defense with relief during that time.  The upside is that my son got a lot of playing time last year. Bridge City's Seniors have won a Superbowl before, so it's not like WOS is the only "small school" that can compete.
12. Since we live in a small school district, I like the idea.  It's rough on players when you only have 19 kids on your team and you go play a team with 30 or so.  Last year, my son was on juniors and frequently played every play, except for kickoff return.
13.
Man it was hot yesterday!!!
Lol.  I was thinking that it was cooler than some previous years.  I think it was four years ago that it was still 103-105 at 5:30 the first couple of weeks.
14. It was interesting to see that he's a former teacher.  I'm assuming he would have enough common sense not to post something like that if he were currently teaching.  I wonder how much that article will be held against him should he decide to apply for another teaching position. Of course most schools are going to ask male teaching applicants if they can coach a sport.  It's a financial necessity for most school districts.  I think his article is offensive to those teachers who also coach.  You have good and bad teachers from both genders and at all grade levels.  I don't think coaching is the reason.  I had a History teacher who was the head baseball coach at my high school.  He taught consistently throughout the year, no matter the season.  The only sign he was baseball oriented was that he could peg a sleeping kid with his chalkboard eraser from the front of the room and never break stride in his lecture.
15.
ALL sports programs and athletes should be allowed to perfect their sports during a particular season; this is the most fair thing you can do for student-athletes and parents. Why should the football coach decide what the basketball and baseball coaches do doing their season. Who is the expert?  This is why I believe the postiont of AD should be neutral,  and that this person should not be head coach of any sport.
Where exactly would school districts get the funding for a "neutral" AD?  Keeping in mind that it is an administrative position, also keeping in mind that this is Texas and head football coaches are pretty well paid as far as the education field goes.  I wonder how many school districts in this state have an AD who is NOT also the head football coach.
16. That's just depressing as hell, but I knew it would just be a matter of time before he left.  I'm sure there are board members jumping up and down with glee this year between Welch leaving and now Huckabee. Good luck in all of your future endeavors, Coach Huck.  Many parents and students will miss you!!
17.
Ever seen Surrogates??
Not yet.  The only time I'm in one spot for two solid hours is at the football field, ballpark, or basketball game  :P. Is it good?  Should I try to catch it on satellite?  lol
18. I think all parents should just keep their children home and away from all contact with other children.  They should never be allowed outside to play, either.  They should be kept inside furniture-less, padded rooms.  That way, there's no risk of injury at all. All kidding aside, I have a friend whose son broke an arm playing little league baseball.  And another whose son got a concussion falling on the gym floor.  Injuries happen off the football field all the time.  Kids are accidents just looking for a place to happen.
19. The following post is not directed at any particular sport or organization: As a parent who's experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly of youth sports (as a player and parent), I have some advice.  You need to look at the big picture.  What are your goals for your son's participation in youth sports?  For my kids, I want them to learn the sport, learn sportsmanship, learn teamwork, have fun, and get ready for school ball.  I tell my kids that they are to do their best no matter what position they are assigned.  They don't have a dad that coaches, so they get put wherever they are put.  Sometimes, they love their coaches, sometimes not...but they are always respectful, same as they would be to a teacher.  It is disheartening to see them passed over for all-stars when you know that they deserve it talent-wise.  However, they're going to be adults with jobs one day.  They're going to have bosses they don't like and coworkers who get ahead through politics.  All of these different experiences help prepare them for life. You're going to experience varying degrees of politics in different towns and organizations. You can't let it drive you crazy or piss you off.  You can borrow my mantra, if you want.  Just one more year and then it's school ball!!
20.

I graduated in 1986 (shut up) from Friendswood.  We had police escorts when we played Santa Fe.  I'm not sure about the other out-of-town games.
they had police in '86?????
Yes, Matt Dillon and his posse.  Someone had to guard those horse-drawn buses.
