1. I graduated in 1986 (shut up) from Friendswood.  We had police escorts when we played Santa Fe.  I'm not sure about the other out-of-town games.
 2. WOS 12 - Orangefield 14 This makes OF 4-0.  Good job to the littlest Bobcats!
 3. I see that the schedule has been posted on the website.  Any idea why Pee Wee and Junior play Labor Day weekend, but Flag and Senior have a bye?
 4. Any updates on the player?  It all happened during my daughter's tball game this morning.  Haven't heard anything since then.  My thoughts and prayers are with the player and his family.
 5.
I don't blame Huck for wanting to leave. It is a no win situation at Orangefield. Hard working kids no doubt and if the kids had a say so I bet they would want Huck to stay. If Huck leaves it will be a step backward for Orangefield. Why can't parents mind their own business. If I was a coach Orangefield would not be on my list as far as places I would want to coach. Not because of the kids, they are great. To much drama and complaining. Orangefield looked like a JV team compared to most of their opponets and they went 7-3. First winning season in a long time and they want to run this guy off. Go figure!!!!!!
I also agree!  There is a huge percentage of helicopter parents in this school district who think their precious children are above the rules and need to be coddled/spoon fed all their lives.  It starts at the flag football/kindergarten age and moves right on up.  I've lived in a lot of school districts, and this one takes the cake!  I was hoping (foolishly) that Huck would still be there when my kids (elementary) moved up to high school.  His style is exactly what I appreciate in an AD!!
 6.
Why would it be considered acceptable to use profanity in a coaching situation. In reality, coaching is "teaching" a sport and there would be issues if the teachers were using it in the classroom. There would be all source of discipline if the students/athletes were using it as well. It all comes down to respect and being responsible as leaders.
I agree.  HS coaches *should* conduct themselves with the same professional behavior that a teacher would since they are employed within the education system and many also teach classes. That being said, I think there are different "degrees" of profanity.  I probably wouldn't be bothered by (and might not even notice) a coach hollering "move your a$$", but I would have a problem with something like "lazy SOB" or "worthless m.f."  Cussing directly AT someone is not motivating.
 7.
I think the reason you're not getting much interest is because to the national media, the Golden Triangle is part of greater Houston.  And reporting that a lot of great athletes come from Houston is hardly newsworthy.
Yes.  Don't you know we're "East Houston"? Sad to say, but there are people in this state who don't know where the Golden Triangle is.  I've lost track of the number of times I've explained where Orange County is  ::).
 8. My 9 yo son went to a full-contact camp this past summer.  I saw a HUGE improvement in his footwork and knowledge of the game.  Definitely well-worth the $$ I spent.  He went as an overnight camper, 4 day camp if I remember correctly.  Overnighters stay in the dorms.  He went with a friend of mine's husband and son.  Dads can sign up to be "father counselors."  My son's already signed up to go next summer and is looking forward to it.  They have camps in Dallas, San Antonio, and "Houston", which is put on at SHSU in Huntsville, where my son went. The only downsides were there was a lot of upfront hype about the pros they get in, autograph sessions, etc.  There weren't many pros who showed up for it.  Oh, and I heard the administrative side was unorganized, but I haven't run into any problems with it.  However, the coaching was phenomenal and that's what camp is about.  All of their staff has either played or coached at the college or pro level. It's Offense-Defense [Hidden Content] I forgot...if anyone decides to go, please use me as a reference.  My son will get $50 put into his camper account to spend at camp, lol.
 9.

I think Coach Huck is doing a great job.  The way he runs his team and the athletic dept is the way I grew up with and that's how I raise my kids now.  For example, no practice = no play.  The only viable excuses for missing practice are for a school function, being contagious, or being significantly injured. I've heard some of the complaints.  I think the parents who have a problem with him got too used to how daddy ball in the youth leagues went and expect the same for their kids when they hit school sports.  I guess they're going to be those helicopter parents who ask the college professors why little Johnny got a D on an exam  ::).
Karma for you Bobcatmom. Like your post.
Thanks!!

 11.
Unless you have a medical condition, I dont think anyone is going to have to be rushed to the hospital not eating for 4 or 5 hours.
No, but if you have a toddler or small child and it's 100 degrees out, 3-4 hours without water can create a medical emergency.
 12. The bribery accusation always cracks me up.  I see that in posts at least a couple of times of year in this forum or the baseball forum. related to my hometown.  Someone makes the comment "somebody's rich daddy must have paid the officials off."  If it were that easy, wouldn't it be done every time?? Officials are human and they do make mistakes.  It's also easier to see the whole field from the stands.  Try being eye level with the players close-up and catch every single thing.  I don't think it's possible. I will say there have been some things I've seen at the STJFL level that make me wonder.  Last year, a kid from the opposing team kicked one of our linemen right in the huevos 3 FEET in front of the ref's line of sight and no penalty was called...although the ref did blow his whistle once said lineman charged the other kid, lol. When my son gripes about the officiating in whatever sport he's playing at the time, I tell him to deal with it.  You're going to have good and bad calls all throughout sports.  If you don't like it, you need to quit them all and run track.
 13.
You ever think the few who do it, may not have the money? To me, if single Mom brings chips for her kids.....big deal. Maybe thats all she can afford.
I totally agree. Another thing to think about.  We don't always know what's going to be available concession-wise from town to town.  I know last Saturday was the first time my son has played at Kountze.  Not every field you play at has an actual concession "stand".  Thank y'all for having a selection to choose from.  He's played at some that the only choice was a hot link, chips, and a soft drink.  Some kids aren't going to eat that, so maybe their parents bring them snacks.   I don't think that the few who bring their own food/drinks into a place are taking a huge chunk from the association's profits.
 14.

This is an eye opener!  Who are the adults and who are the children here?  From what I have been reading day in and day out, who I figure to be adults are acting like children.  Adults berating adults over football!  How immature is this?  People, GROW UP please and set an example for our kids.  >:(
It's all trash talk Mrs Giggles......... Most of us on here know each other and are just having fun. If this is not your cup of tea, you should move on.  It's a public forum.
And, I don't know about anyone else, but my kids aren't reading the forum.  How I speak or act around other adults is different than I how I speak or act around my kids. I come here for the entertainment!!  Oh, and I've actually learned a few things about sports.
 15. For the 8th seed, OF and Kountze are still in it.  Whoever wins their game Saturday will be 4-4.  PNG Grey will be 4-3, if they beat Ned Gold Saturday.  Ned Gold will be 4-4, if they win it.  So, there are four teams that could get that #8 seed, if I'm looking at the playoff rules correctly. Never mind, my lazy self just went and added up all the points allowed by each team  :P.
 16. I'm pretty sure somone posted a similar post last night.  They were told the rumor is untrue and to please pull the post.
 17. I am totally NOT saying it's not the coach's prerogative to put any child in whatever position he wants.  I'm saying you shouldn't put your child into a position hoping to live out your glory days when he's not equipped to play that spot and there's a great potential for being hurt. And if anyone's seen the size of our coach's kids, they KNOW I'm not referring to them, lol.
 18.

I have one for the "Don't be that parent/coach".  This is not from our team, but another city's team. Don't be that Daddy Ball coach who is putting his child in a position when he doesn't need to be playing there.  It's one thing to play that way in baseball, but in football, you're going to get your little guy hurt  :(.
Alot of parents coach for that reason... ;D ;D ;D
Trust me, I know, lol.  But at least in baseball, it's just a detriment to the team.  In football, Junior's gonna get hurt.
 19. How NOT to become that parent Have your child practice outside of the scheduled practice.  Don't depend on the limited amount of time the coaches get to spend with the team be the only training/practice that your child gets.  Encourage them to go to clinics if you can afford it.  Let them get outside with their friends and throw the ball around, even if you have to drive them over to a friend's house to do it.  Get out there and practice with them.  Sit down and watch college and pro games with them.  The more they know and love the game, the better they'll get at it.

I don't know how the playoff seed works but here it is for what its worth.
It's the top two from each division and then two wild card teams.
