Wow, his parents really did a great job raising him.
However, after hearing what he did I bet they wanted to beat him to death.
This is so refreshing to read for a change. Thanks for posting it.
That is the sole reason that I posted it. Not that local players aren't hero's to young kids or anything. It just seemed fitting for alot of people to see what a true model citizen and hero this young man is. I really wonder how many athletes with commitments to major universities would do the same thing.
I think you can say how many PEOPLE period would have done it. Most people would have just sat there and done nothing.

Is number 22 standing in that hole or is he really just that tall?
-
Great young man! I hope he never has to reach that deep down in his inner self again.

Newton wins. And I finally get to sit in my new reserved seat in the refurbished Singletary Stadium.
-
Jasper is going to be tougher than Kirbyville thinks. Kirbyville might take the win, but by less than a touchdown.
-
These types of comparisons are useless. If these people have no blocking by the people in the trenches they do nothing. If they have no one catching the balls they throw, they have nothing. If you think they do it all by themselves you don't understand the game of football. If you compare Kirbyville's, Newton's and Woodville's offensive production against common opponents, you might could crown a winner.

Orange County.....Deweyville? ???

Newton 28, CC 7

Wait a minute... In the state poll they have Newton one spot behind Kirbyville, but in the southeast texas 2A polls they have Newton number 1 and Kirbyville 2 that doesn't make any sense.
If you would read the introduction on the theoldcoach web site it explains all about this.

Spit straight up and see where it lands, then you'll know.

Well said. And it's the Newton-Kirbyville rivalry! ;D

The trip to a state championship has many twist and turns. Anyone in the state game has talent and are well coached. The thing that most people don't take into account is pure luck. In every game played from the first of the year, luck is always involved. I'm not talking about "Oh it was just lucky ya'll won". I'm talking about officials calls, play selection, the proverbial bounce of the ball, injuries, etc. There are all kinds of opportunities during the playoffs to be derailed. You can't count on luck, but you also can't totally disregard it. The best weapon to be lucky is practice, practice, practice. You can influence luck, but you sure can't control it. And yes Kirbyville was the dominate team in the district when I was a freshman and sophomore with Bubba Bean and the bunch.
-
I know this. Where did Kirbyville display their trophy from last year? Oh yea, I remember now.
-
Is that right Mr. ChampionEagles? Even when we were down San Augustine never just dominated Kirbyville. Newton was the team that gave us problems for years.not to mention most of the starters was taken out at the end of the first all was competly second team by half! If San Augustine can keep it close enough to keep the starters in that will be a win for them!!
Seems I remember the same thing only a few years ago happening to Kirbyville, a lot. Programs can turn around.
Exactly! I remember numerous times Newton pulling it's starters after the first quarter when they were playing Kirbyville. It's easy to kick on somebody when they are down, but it really don't help build much of a team. To excell in the playoffs you need to be tested repeatedly. I'm glad Kirbyville has finally put a program together. And I remember ya'll have a one in a row winning streak going against the Eagles.

Yea your right! This area is definately a football, not basketball area. Bias everywhere! Just kidding.
-
I don't care for the coin toss, we've lost some of those. Ha!Ha! Just 2 great programs that could be models for others. The intangible is how do they keep doing it, year in and year out. By the way Coach Barbay's first game was a tie with Orangefield. What a way to start a career.
-
Since 1977 WOS has played a total of 363 games. Newton has played in 380. The difference being nearly entirely due to playing in playoff games. What was Coach Barbay's first game as Head Coach at Newton? Win or loss?
-
Newton did not break even in won/loss until 1980. Of coarse started a few generations prior to 1977. ;D
-
Bottom line, when you are talking football, WOS has the highest winning percentage in the state of Texas across all classifications. The were deemed the winningest football program in the state. They are ranked 20th in the nation by winning percentage. There were only 3 teams in the top 50 from Texas and none if the teams listed in this post were on there except WOS. So with that said WOS is it period, you can't argue the facts.
I think if you win in late November and December it out weighs some losses in September and October. Look at WOS87's historical playoff stats for area teams, Newton wins when it counts and your right, you can't argue the facts.
-
WOS87 has put out some very interesting data on all local teams and really all you have to do is go and look at the playoff history. I think that is a pretty good gauge of what teams have accomplished. Newton's success is well documented there. Compared statewide, Newton does not need to be mentioned in the same breath as some programs, ie. Odessa Permian, Dallas Carter, even Sealy or Celina, but in Southeast Texas....
