1. It's a long road to the Championship. Picks are nice, but I'd rather be there when the game happens as a participant. Hope it goes this way. :)
 2.

Id also like to mention Jasper as a legit top team. I dont think they won any state title but their win lose record is strong. I remember all the Limbricks, Terrence Currington, and Shaun Horn days.
wasn't there a couple of Hadnot's from Jasper also?
Hadnot was Kirbyville.  Butch Hadnot went on to play at Texas.  Before Hadnot you have Dexter 'Thomas' I think.  Some of you remember how dominant Kirbyville was during those years.  I just remember those two guys.  Both unstoppable.
Maybe not quite unstoppable. Hadnot went out in the 2nd quarter his senior year I believe it was when playing Newton. Had a total of 8 or 10 yards.
 3. Kevin Shorter for Newton. Has offers from aTm, LSU, Ark, University of Texas and many more.
 4.
Cameron Yoe was the better team, it had nothing to do with the schedule...Cameron had a weak schedule also, until undefeated Hallettsville.  Newton got outplayed the last 3 quarters of the game vs. Yoe...bottom line.
Absolutely correct.
 5. It's not the pre-district that hurts Newton. It is the district. 10-2A needs to improve district wide to have any chance in the playoffs. And I'm not just talking about Newton.
 6. As posted by others, Newton's play calling on offense was a mystery to me. The reasons I don't know. What ever the reason, it is over. Was a good ride. Thanks for the efforts Eagles.
 7. Leaving now headed to Woodforest Bank Stadium! Football team, cheerleaders, and band just went through town and had a cheering sendoff. First time I have ever seen a bus go through a run through sign!!!! Go Eagles!! Purple Pride Never Dies!!
 8. WOE TO YOE, WOE TO YOE, WOE TO YOE!  I stole that from WOSGrad but I kinda like it! It would make a great chant in the stands. :)
 9.
there will be Yoemen lined up from Cameron to The Woodlands...and no telling how many former Yoe coming to the game from Houston...5,300 people in Cameron, 5,000 + expected at the game from there alone.  GO YOE!!!!!
We don't count, let's just say there will be nobody left in Newton to even turn out the lights!! Go Eagles!! Purple Pride Never Dies!! ;)
 10.
Take it to em Newton,4 of us traveling to support the Eagles=Trocket,Buddy Garrity,Smokinbaby, and Liltex ;)
I'll be looking around for you guys. I'll be the 6'5" guy with the pony tail in PURPLE!  lol Have a safe trip! :)
 11. Newton vs Cameron Yoe 7:30 Woodforest Bank Stadium, Shenandoah, Texas. Let's Go Eagles! Today is the day. Can't wait. Quarterback Club meeting at 9am at Newton City Hall.  Come to downtown Newton at 1:30 to give the guys a great sendoff as they head through town! Jasper at 1:45 and Woodville at 2:15. We're having too much fun to quit now! Purple Pride Never Dies!
 12. Newton folks will gather at 1:30pm to give the football boys a sendoff as they pass through town. Also two other neighbors will participate with Jasper doing it at 1:45 along highway 190 and Woodville doing it at 2:15 also along Highway 190!! What great neighbors we have! Go Eagles!! :)
 13. Me and my wife are there!!As will be my daughter and son-in-law and my brother-in-law!! Purple Pride Never Dies! GO EAGLES!
 14. I've heard from second generation coaches from this games participants and they have broken it down play by play. Who says genetics don't count? lol I bet there was some talk of the scat as well.
 15.

What is different with Newton? Newton keeps being singled out as an exception to all these other reasons. Why? What makes them different? What does Newton have that others don't that trumps the problems being discussed? Shouldn't other programs be able to study why and emulate the program in ways to produce the same type result? Far as I know there is no Voodoo involved. I don't see dead chicken carcasses or blood scrawled words on the facilities. There has to be a reason that Newton has been able to produce consistently year in and year out and other programs do not. It's not money, that's for sure.
Newton has 3A talent that plays in 2A for one thing. They have an established program and tradition that didn't change for 36 years under Coach Barbay. W. T. was under Barbay long enough to continue on without missing a beat, just like Coach T at WOS. Consistancey and continuatey at both these programs.
Then why don't more schools attempt to emulate these programs? Nederland has now had their coach and program for many years and are having some success. Do people understand how difficult it is to win a state title? It took Coach Barbay 24 years to get his first title at Newton as head coach. Most programs will not stay with a coach that long. Thank goodness Newton did.
 16. I think if Shorter has to play the entire game it will be a high scoring game. Cameron runs the spread. They're gonna get some scores. I don't think they can match score for score. Go Eagles!
 17.
Who is the home team?
Don't know for sure, but I think Cameron Yoe will be if WT can get his way.
 18. No, I'm older. I was in attendance. Byerly did go to Texas and had a knee injury. Played for Akers while there. I don't know a lot about what he has done since then. I occasionally hear things but would hate to start any false rumors. I do believe he is successful.
 19. It was hard to watch that again. First time I have ever seen any footage. It was a heart breaker that night. Still remember the feeling when it was announced over the PA that Cameron would advance on first downs. Come on Eagles. Put your foot on the gas!! :)

 21. 2 days and we will know who advances to Jerry's World. Keep your foot on the gas Eagles! Can't quit now, we are having too much fun!!! ;D ;D ;D
 22.

haha...you guys are really cracking me up. It's not about money! It doesn't matter how many coaches you have! It's not about facilities!  It's pure desire! Want to! Work ethic! This is not Rocky IV guys.. Kids today are not the same.  They need a reason to want to play.  A reason to want to go in the weight room. A reason to be a part of something.  If it doesn't matter...then let's keep a count of who wins state championships (in football), and where those schools come from.  Let's compare the money being spent on each school for athletics.  Bottom line..you don't dish out some change, you'll never get truly great coaches, you'll never have as many kids play, and those kids won't have as much reason to "feel a part of something".  I'm not saying that's ALWAYS the case.  But it is most of the time. By the way...the best athletes I've ever seen, played with, played against...were always on the lower end of the "work ethic" chart.  Most kids that work there butts off will never be as talented as the few who don't have to work at all.
Obviously, you are unhappy with the out come of last weeks games, but your generalizations are pretty weak. First, nobody said money, facilities, and coaching dont make any difference.  But, they dont make all the difference.  Work ethic, dedication, community support and a winning tradition are also important and often can help teams over come shortages in money, facilities, and coaching.  Its never all about one thing. Second, kids have changed, but teams dont win because their kids want to wear a cool uniform, play on a turf field, be on a jumbo-tron, or work out in a great weight room.  They win because they do the work regardless of the material things they have to work with. Third, if you look back at state champions from the past 10 years or so you will find a mix of rich and poor schools with state championships.  Fourth, do you have access to the amount of money each school spends on football each year.  If you dont then you are basing your statements on your perception of how much money each school has and spends. Finally, if the "best" athletes you have seen, played with, and against had a low work ethic then you havent spent much time around really great athletes.  I've known professional football, D1 college players, professional baseball, college baseball, and high school state champs in track, volleyball, and cross country and all of them combined talent with an above average, if not exceptional, work ethic.
Very well said. +1
 23.
And those kids from Newton have done a great service to McNeese State and other colleges and they know they can make it to college through hard work on the field in some cases the only way they will get to attend!
So true. I think I'm correct in saying that there have been more kids from Newton signed to scholarships at McNeese State than from any other school district they recruit. Pretty good for a small, poor school football program. Especially considering the success McNeese has had over the years. Viator was a speaker at Coach Barbay's memorial and even referred to McNeese as Newton East. I could name a long list of kids that scholarship was the only way they would have ever gotten a college degree.
Your right about kids needing reasons. The reasons though are not what your saying. To be successful they have to have desire and drive. If your serious with all this, study poor little Newton in detail to get your answer. Dirt poor school district with students from an area with little economic opportunity for parents that are struggling to make a living. An actual (confirmed by snap shot day figures) school enrollment that has been in decline for 10 years. Yet the football program remains one of the areas elite year end and year out. Talent comes and goes, yet wins remain consistent. Why? The answer I hear that is so laughable is "Ya'll have better athletes". The real question is why do we have those athletes. Why do our kids desire to lift weights and run all year long? Why do they desire to win? Why do they want to be, not just good, but great? A percentage that have come through Newton's program don't even have the support of any family. Because they have little or no family life. But they keep coming. Year in and year out. Why. Newton has no turf. No video screen at all, mush less a jumbo tron. No tv station, no radio station. A small weekly newspaper. To me you are vastly over estimating the importance of dollar driven rewards and over compensating for reasons of failure. There are more rewarding things for kids than just buying them a new toy.
 25.
Come on guys, don't let one person come on here and mess this entire thread up.  Here's what most people know.  Newton is a very good team.  Cameron is a very good team.  Their both in the semi-finals for goodness sake.  These two schools have very good football programs year in and year out.  And there is a little history between these two programs that date as far back as the early to mid 70's and as recent as 2010.  It should be a great game and I think the winner of this game will be the favorite to win the state title.  I hope both teams come out injury free and Go Big YOE!!!
I agree and have said so. None of this other is aimed at Cameron and their team because I do know exactly what you said. It is aimed at one person and one person only. And all in fun. I in no way meant to insult the Cameron team or it's great fans. These two programs and their history with each other is what makes this matchup so interesting, exciting, and anticipated by me. Your right about injury free, but Go mighty Eagles! :)
