1. The point was that 4A is easier than 5A, much the same point I made a few months ago. I don't care to talk trash to any team specifically, as I am a Gander fan, and am in no position to talk trash to anyone. Lee has been down for a few years. The only point that I have made is that 5A is tougher than 4A, which was just re-emphasized for me in the fact that this appears like a tough schedule to a 4A team. To a 5A team, that is just a middle of the road schedule of teams to play.
2. Don't want to belabor the point, as I realize that Lee is not a world beater, but that is a run of the mill schedule for a 5a team.  If you're a 5a team, and you schedule Angleton, Ike and Elkins, then no one would blink an eye.  It would be on par with what everyone else is playing. The fact that a 4a team is playing those teams, it makes it seem like a difficult schedule. This is why it is obviously a little more of an even playing field for a 5a team that comes down to 4a. That rigorous pre-district schedule for Dayton would essentially carry on at that difficulty level for 7 more games for a 10 game season if you were in 5a.
3. I went to check out Baytown Lee today. They had a controlled scrimmage.  I was there for about 90 minutes.  It's hard to really tell much, because I don't really know who was who out there. Ruben was starting at QB.  Zellars was running second string at qb.  Zellars performed better.  Ruben threw two picks at least, maybe three.  Zellars is a much better runner and is a better decision maker.  Ruben has the stronger arm.  It was EXTREMELY windy out there, so the passing game was suspect.  #6 on the defense, not sure who that is, had two interceptions.  He also played receiver some and did well there. Keith Johnson looked pretty good at running back. The defense looked better than I suspected they would.  They have a lot of young kids in the secondary.  #6 and #2 both played well.  #2 is the backup running back and did well there too.  I believe his name is Franklin and he will be a sophomore next year.  A lot of guys are going to have to play both ways I think. I did not see Jaevon Richardson out there which scares me a little bit. I have heard that Nathaneil Scott and Jeffrey Patton have both moved, so that's two down...if Richardson moves it will be a HUGE blow as he's ranked in the top 25 in the state for class of 2012 players. I am pretty excited about the prospects.  They have some nice athletes to choose from for the skill positions.  The linebacking crew will be thin as well as both lines.
4. I don't think anyone at Baytown Lee thinks that 4A will be easy.
5. Memorial won the high jump, long jump, triple jump, 400 meters, 400 relay, 1600 relay, 110 hurdles They did quite well even without the B  teams help.
6.
Well I am not sure what the suprise was supposed to be, but it must not have showed up.  The only sprint that PA won was the 110 hurdles and that was as close as it has been all year.  WOS finished: 1, 2 and 4 in the hundred with Trey Franks 10.55 (FAT), Justin Thomas 2nd and Colon Janice 4th 1, 2, 3 in the 200 with Trey, Justin Thomas and Mark Roberts 1st in the 4x2 (Mark Roberts, Justin Thomas, Phillip Jones, and Trey Franks Did not run the 4x1 team 2nd in the 110 hurdles and 400 1, 2 in the 800 2nd in the 4x4 Pretty good day for WOS alot of young talent shinning today
Maybe the surprise was that PAM lapped the field at this meet? PAM 187 WOS 144.5
7. The last iq test bigdaddyblue had was in the 50's as well, so there is a theme here.
8. Sterling had a good team in 1985 as well. Tied, but lost to, WOS on penetrations I believe in the second round of the playoffs.  WOS went on to lose to Yates the next week, but they lost by only 13 and that Yates team is considered by many to be the best ever in Texas.
9. Baytown Lee: 1994 - Beat Aldine Eisenhower in the first round, lost to Galveston Ball by about 10 in the second round.  Ball ended up in the state semi-finals. 1995 - Lost to Humble in the first round by a field goal.  Humble went on to the state semi-finals. 1997 - Lost to Alief Hastings in round three.  Hastings went on to play for the championship I believe. 2003 - Great team, somehow lost to Nimitz in the first round on a couple of fluke plays. The 1997 team, led by a junior Ell Roberson, was really poised to do some damage.  The Ganders were all over Hastings early, but Ell threw about 4 or 5 int's in that game and the Bears beat us by 10.  The 4th round would have been against West Brook, who the Ganders beat like a drum in the regular season. That year had one of our better defenses, and a lot of playmakers at wide receiver. I can remember the game against Hastings like it was yesterday.  Tully Stadium, Lee had our whole side filled up and half of Hastings' side.  Just couldn't get it done.
10.
To be the best, you have to beat the best....untill somebody beats PNG in yalls district...they have to be the favorite.  Doesn't mean it can't be done though.
Not necessarily. It depends on what all they have coming back and what all everyone else has coming back. I don't agree with the steadfast rule that just because you did it last year you are favored this year. It's completely different teams.
11. Crosby still has a residual inflated sense of self worth since they got that new WalMart 5 years back.
12. Maybe, but the other 364 days of the year suck for Crosby students, because well....they live in Crosby.
13. Can't wait to get on an even playing field. Crosby, Barbers Hill, CE King... Those are the types of teams Lee should have been playing the last few years. Lee will have a nice offense this year. Still not sure they can stop anyone.
14. Was the same way when I went to see Willowridge play against Bellaire back in the TJ Ford era.  The arena was full.  There were a couple thousand people standing outside looking in the windows.  I had to sit on the stairs  to catch a seat.  It was crazy.
15. With Olin as coach, Lee made it past the first round 6 times in 17 years. So, unless you have a weird deformity on that one hand you may need two hands.
16. LOL There is your strawman again. No one said Lee deserved to win.  Lee should have lost that game, just like they did. They were in it deep into the 4th quarter though. Why would you take all of the games the teams in 22-5A played? That doesn't make any sense. It would be a more fair comparison to take district games so we can see how they do against common opponents. Either way, the 37 points they gave up to Lee was the most they gave up all year.
17. You specifically stated that Memorial was in control of the game, trying to give your argument a little more firepower.  I'm sure everyone here assumed you were at the game. Aside from your observations of Richardson, which I doubt you were at the North Shore game either for that matter. You were giving an observation of a game(Memorial) that you were not attending. You also said that Memorial had the worst defense in a bad district, when in fact they had the 4th best defense in a bad district. Pearland gave up 9 points a game in district, DP gave up 10, LaPorte gave up 14 and Memorial gave up 16. Again, you are just pulling stuff out of thin air trying to strengthen your argument.
18. So, you're telling me you weren't at the game, yet you are trying to speak about what happened at the game. This is rich.
19. My hind leg the game was out of hand when Richardson scored his td's. He dominated the game. His punt return in the 4th quarter brought Lee to within two scores. Lee got the ball back and inexplicably did not have him in the game, down two scores with about 8 minutes to go. Lee was in the game deep into the 4th quarter, so those were not meaningless touchdowns. He is too good for high school cornerbacks. The reason he didn't do much against North Shore is because the NS defense was simply too fast for the Lee offense to have time to get him the ball. Go back and look at the film of Lee and Clear Creek when Clear Creek put two guys on Jaevon at the line of scrimmage.  I've never in my life have seen a defense put double coverage on a receiver like that right at the line of scrimmage.  Looked like a punt return, with the outside gunners being doubled up. So, don't try to diminish what this kid is all about. Were you even at the game?  Shouldn't you have been watching the GCM game that night?
20. LaPorte has had an easy road to the third round the past two years. Lee handled them both years. And we all know Lee hasn't been a rolling ball of butcher knives the past two years.
21. oh yeah that was Odell. The only ones I can for sure identify are Odell, Kalief Muhammed, Darrell Bush, Mike Green, Slint Stoerner, Chad Irwin, David Boston....and that may be it.
22. Shawn Diamond... Remember him well. I watched him in 8th grade at Baytown Jr.  He would routinely go for 8 carries 255 yards and 6 touchdowns.  He was a machine. He was pretty dominant as a freshman too like you said. We had a load of talent on that freshman team.  Michael Stewart transferred to CE King, but the rest of them stayed around. I remember playing North Shore though that freshman year.  Their Freshman pounded us like 63-7.  Ced Cormier and Lavar Johnson had a field day.  Three years later as seniors, Lee had them beat 7-3 until a last second hail mary pass gave the Mustangs a 10-7 win.  Olin regularly had 100+ kids out for freshman ball.  Now they are lucky to have 50. Clint Stoerner's sophomore year, they didn't put any sophomores on varsity.  they left them all on the sophomore team to let them play together.  Must have been 60 kids on that sophomore team.  Now we don't even have a sophomore team, hardly a JV team for that matter. I can only hope that the top level athletes continue playing football. Lee has enough athletes to get by in 4A, just not enough for the constant pounding of 5A.
23. Crosby Dayton Baytown Lee GCM CE King Barbers Hill Galena Park North Forest
24. Football Montage I promise the footgae looked better than this when it was being captured. Maybe it just needs time to fully process onto youtube. Brings back some good and bad memories for me personally. Humble really spoiled one of Lee's better chances to get deep into the playoffs with stupid David Boston.
25. you could be right dude Barbers Hill and Lee are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Barbers Hill has little in the raw athletes department, but they have a good system in place.  They get the kids involved early.  They are well coached.  They are in the same system from optimist on up.  They are pretty well formed into a nice cohesive unit that is playing up the best of their ability by high school. Lee is just all over the place.  Lee usually has 4-5 D1 athletes on the squad at any one time.  They have a ton of guys that play freshman ball and look like all world contributors, then they move, they drop out, they go to jail, they quit football to sell drugs....whatever the case may be. Lee's team looks like a bunch of guys that just showed up and learned they were going to be teammates the day before each game.  Mistakes out the wazoo, no cohesion, no unity...just a bunch of athletes trying to make it by. Take last year's team for instance. When that group of seniors were freshman, they beat the tar out of everyone. I watched at least 7 or 8 games their freshm,an year and they went undefeated in the ones I saw.  they may have lost a game or two that I wasn't able to make, but not by much.  the games I saw they beat the stuffings out of Sterling and Memorial and Channelview. Problem is....their best players were Xavier Ruben, Jarret Havins, Shack Calderon, Rashawn Williams, Nathan Dominique, Curtis Louis, Trey Murray and Trent Warren. Of those, only Ruben, Murray and Warren played for Lee last year. Havins was on and off the team, never did much, Calderon who knows what happened, Rashawn Williams went to Sterling, Louis went to GCM I guess as he is on their basketball team, Domonique who knows. So of the top 8 players, only 3 of them made it to their senior year.  All three of those were solid players for Lee. If you go back even farther, I can remember the class that was supposed to be a state ranked team a few years earlier.  Josh Jones, Jarvis Moore, Desarian Cartwright, Jarret Driver, Michael Mahan, etc. Driver was convicted of murder, Cartwright lef tthe team, Mahan was on and off the team. the year before that, Grady Richardson made the varsity as a freshman, never heard from him again. Jarret's brother Jermaine was a varsity linebacker as a freshman, his senior year he was off the team.\ I remember back in the mid 90's... what you saw on the freshman team, that was what you were going to see 4 years later on the varsity.  Not the case any more at least for Lee.
