I give the Ganders a B+. They are doing about as well as could be expected considering how low their numbers are right now. They have 5 or 6 guys playing both ways at least part of the time. To outplay LP in the second half like they did was quite surprising.

Maverick, he didn't play. He was there in shorts and his uniform top, but he was not suited out. Anthony Webb took up all the slack though for LP as he ran for 220 some odd yards. I think if Perkins had played and if Lee had played a game already like LP this gasme would have been more well played and a tighter game all the way around. Lee made too many mistakes, a lot of them caused by first game jitters I'm sure(hoping). LP didn't make as many silly mistakes, but they also just didn't have enough weapons, so PErkins would have fit the bill there. -

There was a freshness to the atmosphere that has been missing the last few years with Olin. You really got the sense that the Ganders were not playing up to their potential. If nothing else, this team seems like they are going to be exciting to watch. They can't afford any injuries, and they are going to have to really be in shape, but they do have 5 or 6 guys that can play at the next level and another bunch that are pretty solid. -
Gather round boys and girls and let uncle panama tell yall a story. The Ganders don't look quite as awful as I would have expected. They have to play a lot of guys bopth ways, which ended up causing a lot of cramps, but they made it through. LP took the first drive about 75 yards in 4 plays for a td with less than 2 minutes off the clock. I thought that it was going to be a long year at that point. Lee buckled down(and started using a lot of their offensive line on defense too) and held the Bulldogs to only one long td run for the rest of the game. The Lee offense reminds me of what Olin's offense looked like when he first got there. A LOT of sideways passing. Lee threw a bunch of screen passes to the outside receiver. There was some zone read. There was some kinda trick formation which saw about 4 yards of gap between each of the offensive linemen. That formation never worked the 3 or 4 times they tried it. Guys shot threw the middle too easily. Malcolm Ruben, junior quarterback, looked good. He made the throws he needed to make. He needs to learn when to keep the ball on the zone read play, but he will be alright. Dandrick Jackson ran for 150+ yards with one 74 yard td run and also interecpted a ball.. Jaevon Richardson really played some ball for the Ganders. He's only a sophomore, but he might be the best player on the team.He caught 5 balls for 90 yards and 2 td's and also interecpted a ball.

LCM vs. Baytown Lee (Scrimmage)

Sterling has always had a ton of players that started at Lee and vice versa. Sterling fans just liked to make a big deal of it because they were losing every game to Lee for 20 years. -

I doubt seriously that Dave rogers would be THAT biased against a Golden Triangle area team. The guy bleeds Golden Triangle blood. He is not a native Baytownian and has no bias towards any of the Baytown high schools in any of the articles I have ever read from him. -

I don't think it's going to hurt the football team much, but it sure puts a damper on Lee's track team for this spring. CJ is fast, but he's not much of a football player other than running fast straight down the field. I can remember all of the Sterling fans being upset, claiming that Olin was stealing Sterling players lol Half of Sterling's roster right now started out at Lee. A Middleton, CJ, R Williams, K Williams... oh yeah I forgot Andre Corley. He's another that was zoned to Lee as a freshman. -

“They (the LC-M coaches) said we blocked in the back,†he said. “We didn’t have any officials, because of the rescheduling, so we went with what they said.†Hey, if it was a block in the back, it was a block in the back. I'm just trying to play the ifs and buts game with the other guy that said surely they would have tied or won the game portion. Who is to say. As it is, it was 3-0 Lee. Lee probably does have a discipline problem. Olin let players do what they wanted as long as they could play some ball. It doesn't look like Sedberry will be allowing that. Somehow two of the fastest players we had coming back, CJ Mixon and Adam Maguire, are no longer listed on the roster. I'm not sure if they moved or got kicked off the team or what. It's going to hurt though. -

Maybe...or you might have fumbled and Lee might have ran it back to make it 10-0. As it is, it was 3-0 with a long Lee td called back by an alleged block in the back that the LCM coaches called. -

Lee won the simulated game part 3-0 on a field goal according to the Baytown Sun. They did say a long td was called back for Lee because of a block in the back that the LCM coaches called. Also, LCM was on the goalline when the scrimmage was called a bit early due to too much jawing after the plays. -

I'll repeat here what I put on theother board. It was hot as heck out there. Lee evidently had a lot of boys that couldn't make it back today after it was postponed last night because of lightning. They were without CJ Mixon and Adam Maguire I'm pretty sure at receiver. Xavier Ruben at OL was there, suited out, but didn't play. The Ganders only had 28 guys in uniform. I know our numbers our down, but I have to assume we have at least 40 out for varsity this year(please God don;t tell me we only have any where cose to 28) The Lee qb situation still needs to be ironed out. Jackson and Murray are both weapons on offense, but they couldn't find a hole to run through. The quarterback couldn't complete a ball. I honestly think that Lee didn't get a single first down the whole time. I could be wrong, but they certainly didn't get many. The JV looked even worse to be honest. Deer Park ran all over them. There was a team there playing against Deer Park's sophomores. I think their name was Summer cCreek. They must be a new school. They have some good talent. -

LOL Come on people. I know yall are better than this. Do you expect a little receiver to go head up on a defensive end when he has to block him? Of course not, so let's bring back the crackback block then so everyone will be happy that it's full contact again and we can end some careers with knee injuries. Every argument you make about the football game being contact and not wanting to turn it into 7 on 7 could be made concerning the facemask and crackback blocking rules, yet we still somehow manage to like the game with those rules in place. You are better than this setx forum.
-
Look guys, I already put my reply to the detractors in the first post, because I knew people would not be able to think outside the box enough. I'm certain that people were complaining that we should make it a flag football league when they first started calling face mask penalties. I'm sure there were some people complaining how we are wussying up the game when they came out with illegal crackback blocking. I'm sure Deacon Jones was upset when they disallowed the headslap. Who has ever said that they shouldn't let you tackle below the waist? Just don't do it in a crackback situation, much like you don't block someone below the waist when you are coming back against the grain. If you can't see why this might be a good idea, then I think you either are not thinking it through clearly and would need an example of it happening on the field to see how exposed the offensive player is....or you just like a good argument.
-
The same way an offensive player cannot crack back below the waist against the grain of action, a defensive player should not be able to do it either when tackling someone. See Blaine Irby's injury last year for a prime example of this. Receiver catches ball, turns around and instantly a guy is flying right towards his knees. It's a recipe for disaster. And I don't want to hear about how that would wussify the game either. There are already plenty of rules in place to determine legal ways for defensive players to make a tackle such as such as grabbing the facemask.
-
You may get your wish soon. Lee should be down in 4a before too long. I don't know how they have cooked the books to keep them in 5a this long. The numbers over there are dwindling rapidly. I'd like to play Central again too. The two teams are similar. Fast, athletic, undisciplined, mistake prone.
-
Murray is another one that is very good. Some one will get a steal when they get him in college. If he were playing for North Shore, he would be ranked in the top 100 in the state. He's the perfect size and speed for a college defensive back.
-
I think Ruben has more potential to be honest, although Smith is probably rated higher. Ruben is much quicker and meaner. When I saw him as a freshman, I thought he would be a highly sought after college recruit. It's puzzling that he hasn't developed into a more complete player yet. I think this year is the year he puts it together....especially if they let him play defense.
-
Looks like Ruben and Smith have both committed to Baylor. I think Ruben will actually be moved to defense at Baylor from the sounds of it. I've thought all along that he should be playing defense here. He could be a dominating presence if you turned him loose on the defensive side with his size, strength and agility.

Whose "house" do you hate to go into?
gary-us-bonds replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
West Brook, Central, PA Memorial and Deer Park. Lee had one taken from us in Deer Park the year after my senior year. We must have gotten 200 yards in penalties. Beaumont and PA teams are always tough to beat when playing them there. -
No way was GCM going to compete for anything that first year. They got all their kids from a Sterling program that wasn't doing a lot as it was. The kids were all underclassmen. They did good to win any games at all. Olin got too much credit because he was compared to Sterling. At least Lee was making the playoffs occasionally, but people were holding him up like he had turned Lee into some powerhouse. The Ganders had a few chances to get to a state title game in 1995 and 1997. They haven't really been much in contention since those days.
-
Lee would be competitive in 4a. They have the athletes, just not enough of them. They have honestly been 4a level in enrollment the last few years as it is. Things would look a lot better if they were playing the Barbers Hills and Crosbys of the world instead of the North Shores and West Brooks.
-
I can't wait to see a game period. It's been a long wait considering we didn't have spring practice this year. I stay in Missouri City now, so it will be tougher to get back to all of the games. Lee and Sterling should be a good game this year. I think people are writing Lee off a little bit too much this year, considering they were three plays away from beating Sterling, Port Arthur Memorial and West Brook last year and finishing 2nd in the district. Lee just didn't have a quarterback last year. That shouldn't be the case this year.
