  1. I find it quite amusing all the anti-Masters sentiment on the board. I wouldn't trust a 4A or 5A head coach without one, especially if he has the added responsibility of Athletic Director. If someone has been in 4A or 5A football several years and has the desire to be either a head coach OR athletic director at that level, he needs to get off his or her butt and complete the Mid Management Degree which is quite helpful. The only coaches who will complain against it are those who are too lazy or dumb to complete the course work. Let's just take away all certifications or degrees, and let anyone who finished the fifth grade apply. They need 5 years of pee wee coaching experience--stop that --make it 3 years--now maybe some will be happy.

  2. Video makes you look so much slower than you really are. We critique the missed tackles as poor, but even great NFL tacklers look poor when trying to tackle an elusive runner. You can teach form tackling all day long, but when SPEED IS IN YOUR FACE it is an entirely different story. I think this young man has tremendous potential. Of course I'd like to see more video, but this clip is MIGHTY IMPRESSIVE.

  3. As a high school coach of 25 years I have seen a lot, but I haven't heard of many instances where parents were given jobs to relocate for their athletic children. Of course, the area where this would be prevalent would be small to med size towns with industry, which describes the Golden Triangle and East Texas. So to say it doesn't happen would be like saying all politicians are honest!  Now what I do witness is parents who move their children/athletes to areas to play under established programs with established winning coaches. Some examples in the Houston area are North Shore football, Katy football, Hightower football, Dayton football, Wheatley basketball, Hightower basketball, Woodlands football, Kingwood Soccer, Kingwood basketball, Kingwood baseball, Bellaire baseball, Cinco Ranch track & field and I know the same happens in girls sports, but I am not as knowledgeable. This is nothing more than parents using their ability to move their career for what they consider is best for their children. In the early 90's, I was football at Clear Lake and we had a move in from Centerville Texas (1A) to Clear Lake so he could play basketball under Bill Krueger who had recently won a state championship and was the runnerup the next. The ironic thing is he only played basketball his junior year, along with football, but never played his senior year as he was being heavily recruited by Notre Dame and A & M as a defensive lineman and tight end. He went on to become a great center for A & M and for the COLTS and Texans. His name is Steve McKinney and has a sports show on 1560 the GAME from Houston with an LSU fanatic.

It is not just those with $ who can do this. Sometimes those with less can do this easier. We are currently involved in a situation where a mother with "3" tremendously gifted athletes continues to move from school zone to school zone because she can more easily re locate by apartment. It is destroying the kids though. They are not grounded at all and have no father. I am hoping they get back, not only for their athletic ability, but because they are great kids and desperately need male guidance.

Sorry to ramble, just my observations during a long coaching career.

  4. Hello youth football coaches. I am new to the board. I have coached HS football in Southeast texas for my 25th year. Of the four schools I have coached all have done well and been playoff bound (I won't take full credit, but I have had my hand in the pot while we were making the playoff teams). I have a company for the past 5 years that serves as a football consultant to youth leagues as well as individuals. Most of my work in the past has consisted of individual consultations and youth league clinics in the spring because of our hectic fall schedule. But we have given clinics during the season on Wednesday evenings. I get usually 5-6 coaches all oldschool with lots of experience to give specific one hour lecture on their positions play, followed by a one hour breakout room with the coach immediately after. I don't want to use this site to promote my business, but I do see more than dollars and cents in what I do. Football is the prime reason I am where I am today. I see my job as a high school coach as one who can influence our young ment to become hard working moral future Christian fathers. In these days(especially with the upcoming election) the media seems to tell the public that this is wrong. The media is full of crap!!!!I hope everyone will come out on election day and prove the liberal media wrong in JUST 10 DAYS!!!!! Sorry for getting political--can't help it I love this country and all it has to offer and hate to see it go down without a fight.

If you are interested I'll leave my home email and I can contact you. My team will be traveling to Beaumont WB territory this Saturday afternoon after taking a beating last week to Northshore. I believe my boys will bounce back against a fine WB team. Thanks for the ability to vent a little--good for the blood pressure.
