  1. This upcoming year? 23-AA hands down........ Newton will be much improved from last years team with a strong possibility of making another run to the state title..... Corrigan Camden (IMO) may be the best team in 23-AA this coming year and if the cards fall right you could very easily have a state champ caliber team from 23-AA in both the big school and small school divisions... Hemphill will be getting much stronger over the next few years and should be as strong or stronger this year as they were last year.... Woodville and San Augustine always have the ability to beat anyone on any night.. There will always be two really good teams left at home once the playoffs begin in this district..... I would venture to say that the 4th and 5th place teams from this district would make the playoffs if they were in just about any other district..
  2. No doubt, Groveton will be loaded, however I do think it is a stretch to compare them to last years Alto team. The 06-07 Alto Yellowjackets were one of the most dominant 1A teams of all time. As good as Groveton may be, they still have to get past this years Alto team that will still be loaded!!!!
  3. Yeah, I guess you can. I called my Dad and had him meet me out at our deer camp to take pictures and instead of getting his digital camera he shows up with a 35mm....... I could have gone home for my digital but I was in an BIG hurry, I had too leave for Houston at noon so I could catch the VERY SAD season opener for the Astros.
  4. Well, the outcome was good for me.... I took a big eastern gobbler Monday morning... Right here in Sabine County!!
  5. I know that Woodville is going to be tough for the Hornets but Hemphill is much improved from last years playoff team. They have REALLY good bats this year and the pitching is just as good if not better. Should be a really good game but I know that the Hornets cannot make any mistakes against Woodville and better play their best game of the season!
  6. I really like both. I do freshwater fish more than salt but that is only because I can be sitting on either Toledo or Rayburn in just a matter of minutes. I do make several trips to the bays and Sabine lake every year. I love to bass fish, the thrill of the hunt accompanied with the peacefull lakes and scenic views. Very relaxing and loads of fun when you are really on the good fish. When I go saltwater fishing it is usually wading the surf or the bays from daylight to dark with about an hour or two off for lunch..... Lots of times I will do this for 3-5 days straight. It is very fun but also very tiring..... I guess if I had to give one up for the other I would have to stick with freshwater. Not necessarily because I like it more but for the convenience!
  7. IT'S A SECRET!!! Just kiddin'!! Pinkston is off of hwy 7 in the Aiken community, between Center and Nacogdoches. Smaller, very stumpy lake. Not really ideal for a big bass boat, however if you just manuever around by trolling motor any boat will be fine. If you have an alluminum boat with a small outboard or trolling motor you can get around perfectly. Pinkston is full of 5+ lb fish. If you make a trip to Pinkston and don't catch a 5lb fish or better then something is wrong. I've caught several really good fish there while standing on the boat ramp!
  8. 1. Toledo 2. Rayburn 3. Pinkston (if you haven't heard of it, then you are missing out)
  9. Turkey season begins in a few weeks!! (I can't wait) When I start missing the thrill of the hunt, I just go sit in my deer stand and hunt hogs that are coming in to my feeders. After shooting a few pigs I can go another month or two before I get the itch again...
  10. I have never seen a black panther, but I am not about to say that they don't exist because I have seen a Mountain Lion here in the Pineywoods of East Texas and there is no doubt that is exactly what I saw. I have seen Moutain Lions up North before so there is no doubt about what I saw. He was a VERY large Moutain Lion and I got to watch him for about 3 minutes, I was deer hunting and he came out roaming around my deer feeder and my food plot. Very exciting experience.
  11. I was out on Toledo Bend yesterday and the lake is about a foot lower than it was just two weeks ago. I checked a marker at a local marina and two weeks ago it was just over pool (couple inches) and now that same marker is reading almost a foot low.
  12. 23-AA '07 1. Newton 1. Corrigan-Camden 3. Hemphill 4. San Augustine 5. Woodville 6. Shelbyville It will be a fight for first place in this district between Newton and Corrigan! Both teams should be loaded not losing many from last years teams..... I look for both of these teams to make deep playoff runs and a possible state championship for either one!
  13. West Sabine will be back in the mix next year, returning lots of their starters from last years team and some really good athletes coming up from JV.... I look for WS to make a deep playoff run in '07.
  14. UNBELIEVABLE!!! The same board that gave him his walking papers, hires him back?????? I think this will be good for SA but talk about an ironic turn of events!lol
  15. I had a decent season..... I killed an inferior buck for the first time since 1998... I was not too happy about that, but I will do better next year..... A lot of hunters would have shot him but he was not what I was looking for.... Just got caught up in the heat of the moment!
  16. Best stress relief in the world for me... When I get up in that stand, all worries seem to disapear....
  17. Great buck........ My brother killed a 169 non-typical in Sabine County this year too..... It did have about 15 inches of deductions though leaving him at 154 typical... I have seen Ronnie's deer pics before and trust me he is most definatley a 165.....
  18. Have not been to Pinkston this year. I used to take a 14ft flat bottom boat and a troll motor and go through the culvert and fish the other side.... Lots of fish on the other side of the culvert!!
  19. I have fished the McDonalds tournaments before, but not anymore... I just dont care for the big fish tournaments. But too each his own, and by the way there is a degree of luck in all fishing tournaments.
  20. I like to walk the dog with either a SpitnImage or Zara Spook...Fresh water or salt water... But my favorite on Rayburn is either a frog or a Super Fluke across the hydrilla or lilly pads back in Mill Creek, or on Toledo in Palo Gaucho!!
  21. Gimme some good news on the fishing at East Bay and Bolivar pocket!!!! I am going to be down there the first week in August and I need a good report??? Or should I bring plenty of hamburger meat and steaks and leave the fish frier at home?
  22. 3800 acres in Sabine County. Leased this property from Temple in 1981 and still hunting it today.... Lots of deer, too many hogs (BUT NOT NEAR AS MANY AS SIX MILE HUNTING CLUB).....
  23. 9.3 on Pinkston in 1999..... Was loading the boat after a day of fishing on Pinkston. Pulled the boat out of the water and started putting my rods into the rod box. I noticed that one of my reels had a slight backlash so I walked down to the boat ramp and casted the spinnerbait into the water to get the backlash out. I caught the 9.3 on the retrieve! TALK ABOUT LUCK!!! BTW, if you have never fished on Pinkston, you are missing out! That lake is FULL of big bass!!!!!!
