1. Can't wait to see the new field/stadium.  SA deserves this, they have lived with a pitiful field for years!!  I hope this starts a trend for schools in our area!!!

Their athletic program is devoid of talent other than Twine.
This is NOT true!  I know most personally and have been watching this bunch boys since they were 5-6 years old.  Hemphill has PLENTY of talent other than Justin.  I could name probably 15 or so kids that could start in football and baseball for most ANY school in East Texas.
Dude...you are not from Hemphill obviously!! There are barely 15 boys in any of the programs at Hemphill!! Basketball has a total of 13 jv and varsity combined, varsity football had maybe 18 total and most of them HAD to start both ways. Geesh. Your delusional. Baseball has the biggest turn out for players right now. Last time I looked, most of them were JV players moved up as freshman. There are barely any boys in Hemphill  period, but since you know at least 15 of them that can start anywhere in East Texas.....please name them, give them credit and name them. During district games where were these guys? Face it. There is a drought of natural talent here. It can be worked on and improved but you have to have real participation from the kids and not just wanna be out there because they are bored.
Yeah, I probably know the kids there MUCH better than you.  I can promise you that IF I could have the following kids move to my school (which happens to be a consistant playoff school in both football and baseball) they WOULD start somewhere on both teams......  Twine, Bell, Whittington, Harris and Harris, Kreager, Byley, Simmons, Weathered, Weaver, Merchant, Phillips, Bagget.........  How many more????  The kids are there, but the spirit is broken!! I'm really disappointed that some of you find it ok to get on here and act the way you do, rememeber that these are school age kids you're talking about.
I'm not talking bad about those kids... but the ones you just named ARE STARTERS already and the job isnt getting done. And yes the numbers are correct, there is a horrible turnout on boys sports programs in Hemphill. Please.... if you are so close to the info at HHS, give me your opinion why they went 1-9 this year. Since we have starters that can play anywhere in East Texas. I truly hate it has come to this for Hemphill, but most of it is from their own doing.... not allowing transfers for all those years trying to keep unwanteds out has come back to bite them.
ZERO confindence is one of the contributing factors, for some odd reason the kids, school, and community have given up on football and they consider Hemphill a "baseball town/school".  I've heard this from adults and kids over and over and over for the past several years.  The athletic ability is there but the mental factor has been demolished!!!  To be successful in either football or baseball it takes athletes they go hand in hand and bleed over from one to another.  It makes no sense to be VERY good in one sport all the way through your lineup and horrible in the other using the same kids.  I do understand that some kids are good at one thing and bad at the other but you can't be as "athletic" as Hemphill is in baseball and have no athletes on the field in football using the same kids.

 6. After seeing both teams I have concluded (and remember these are my opinions based off what I saw from both teams and comparing my views) Team Speed: Edge SA Mart has extremely fast skill position players San Augustine's entire team is extremely fast Offense: Edge Mart Mart is VERY disciplined on offense, close to flawless execution and no stupid penalties and very limited turnovers. San Augustine is really good offensively but they just don't execute as well as Mart and historically speaking SA does not handle adversity as well.  Sorry SA guys it's just the way I see it! Defense: Edge SA Mart's defense is good but they don't seem to shut down speedy offenses as well. SA may have the fastest/quickest to the ball defense I've seen.  I don't know how they do it but they get through the line at lightning speed.  Mart will NOT be able to get to the corners and turn it up field for large gains very easily against this defense, plus SA hits HARD and then hits again and then when you think it's over they hit you again. Special teams:  Wash Both teams showed little in the games I watched Niether team will have faced an opponent this year with as much speed as what they will see in this game. The old saying "defense wins championships" leads me to believe that SA will come out on top in this contest.... SA 40 Mart 35
 7. IF SA plays the type of football they are capable of throughout the playoffs this game will just be a small bump in the road on their way to Dallas.
 8. WS will have to play their best game of the season to win vs Mart.  It can be done, but this team has NOT played to their potential since the Alto game.
 9. Turnovers, stupid penalties, and penalties that negate touchdowns will kill this team next week.  If they dont clean it up Mart will beat the breaks off WS.
 10. West Sabine by a couple td's. Timpson is good, they have a VERY good RB but if WS takes care of business it will not be close.
 11. IMO No way Alto loses to Shelbyville.  WS MUST take care of business this week in Grapeland.  Grapeland will be no slouch and could leave the Tigers playing basketball earlier than expected.  As long as WS plays to thier capabilities then it should be a W by several scores, however I am worried because the team (WS) has looked very flat the past few weeks.  If WS gets fired up again they will win and if they carry that over into the playoffs they could go a long way!
 12. Two really tough east Texas teams however in my opinion Jasper will be too much for Center..  Jasper by a couple td's.
 13. I too have seen both SA and Alto and from what I saw if both teams play with the same intensity and discipline that they played with against West Sabine then I have to give the edge to SA.  In my opinion SA is the better team.

BTW, since district began I have NOT been impressed much at all out of ANY of the teams in this district, I dont see anyone getting past the third round coming out of our district.  I really hope I'm wrong.
I disagree on some points you make here.  I don't think WS is playing as well now as they were, and it is not competition level related completely.  The line has been very nicked up, and Williams didn't play much of the game after twisting his knee in a non contact situation on the second play.  WS predistrict schedule looked pretty good before the season started.  They played what was a good Kelly team a year ago, Tenaha, need I say more, Hemphill & Burkeville is a tradition that they all but must play.  Hemphill was playing pretty well at that time.  Most people over there will tell you, that losing to WS in many ways, killed there season.  Then with Twine going down, there was nothing left mentally.
I think you misread my post.  I said that "I truly don't believe WS is playing as well now as say when they played Teneha and they may have peaked too early".  Hey, I love WS and I am not knocking them just stating what I believe to be my honest opinion and real.  I agree with you on the predistrict schedule out of 5 games two of those were against state champs from less than a year ago.........  You would think that both of those teams would be tough (Teneha is tough).

I thought early on that this district could easily end up a three way tie between SA, WS, and Alto. I'm pulling for West Sabine, an old district rival of HD. I see it: West Sabine - 36 San Augustine - 29
Have you seen Sa?  What makes you think that sa will lose at home?  So you think that sa will lose to Ws but beat alto?  Smh...just stick to hd...they arent even on the same level.  Never have...never will be. The game between WS and Hemphill I saw the Tigers throw quite a few deep balls. Those will definitely be harder to complete for both teams! 21.
Speaking of hitting hard, how many times did we have to wait for another yellow jacket to get up off the field.  No tiger ever slowed to game down............  Nor have they all year.    Alto won, this is true, but the turnovers were the difference, they could not stop WS offense either.  WS running back had a higher average per carry than Whitaker and probably more yards total.  Whitaker ran approx 36 times for @ 150 yds, Williams for WS ran 12 times for about the same yardage.  And williams out ran all the Alto players more than once.
Yes, WS can bring the wood also, we just have to do a better job of cleaning up the mistakes.  We do that and you're looking at a possible long playoff run.
 22. The Tigers are coming off a tough loss to Alto and seek a little redemption.......  I'm voting with them and predicting a 14 point margin of victory!!  42-28
 23. There is no doubt that last Friday night Alto was the more physical team but what really helped Alto is simply put as "tradition" and knowing how to win big games.  This attribute alone can take a team a long ways and not many in our area have that (Alto, Newton, Celina).  Even in what they call thier "rebuilding" or "down" years these teams can beat most because of their system and the mentality of "we are better than you".  I love that quality in those teams and wish we could establish that here.  Yes there was one player from Alto that liked to hit late and that is what triggered the response of the coach and all he did was tell the kid to get back to his side of the field and after the game WS's head coach talked to that kid and told him that he liked his tenacity.  The kid actually appoligized to the coach which really was not needed and the coach replied to him that no appology was needed for playing hard.  What I believe was a missperception of bad conduct was in reality what Alto is, hard nose/physical ball.  I thought it was VERY exceptional and respectful for the player from Alto to appoligize and will remember that for a long time. Now, I will say that WS did shoot themselves in the foot and mistake after mistake took them out of the game.  There was 14 points that were a result of WS turnovers, turnovers that were a result of not protecting the ball not Alto take aways, bad snaps over the QB's head, plus WS missed oppurtunities like covering Alto fumbles but instead trying to pick them up and run, which allowed Alto to retain possession and score. In terms of speed and athletic ability I would take WS over Alto all day long and I don't believe Alto would beat WS in a rematch, I truly believe that but it is my opinion.  However, Alto will NEVER give up and they will bring the wood every play, they just dont stop which makes them very fun to watch!!  I will be closely following the Yellowjackets through the playoffs this year they are a really good team with really good kids!!  Congrats on the win Alto and good luck the rest of the season!!  Maybe we will meet again later on down the road.
 24. I'm worried about Alto!  I want my Tigers to win but this will be the first true test.....  I KNOW that the team and coaches are not taking Alto lightly but I do believe that some of the fans are........  Hope that doesnt bite us in the behind!!!
