[/quote] Look at the first downs though. It was 15 to 5 and could have been worse. I have three reasons for the skewed yardage. There are others but the main three in my opinion. 1. Nederland worked with a short field. For the second week in a row their defense gave the offense great field position and they didn't need to drive 80 yards for a score. 2. Nederland pulled the main starters out at 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter. 3. GCM had a 59 yard gain on the last play of the game. All those add up to it appearing in the stats (except first downs) that GCM won or played a close game. Obviously the score and yardage could have been worse if Nederland had kept the starters in but what it the point? Most teams let the backup players come in when a game gets out of hand and so it was with this game. GCM didn't look so bad as much as just the wheels came off. If it could go wrong, it did. Like one instance where they had one great play set up with a fake pass, a fake draw and then a toss over the middle. The play was run what appeared to be perfectly and the pass was dead on the money to a wide open receiver that would have gone a long way...... but the receiver dropped the pass. It was just one of those nights.

When the going gets tough, some head for the exits for the early trip home. I remember some of the lean years in 5A when PNG did not even fill the stands. Great crowds for a losing team? You bet but even PNG has some fair weather fans.

Players, coaches, fans or anyone else can pray any time they wish. From the current federal court rulings, it is unconstitutional over the PA system by anyone. Anyone can do it until someone complains in court with a precedent already in place. It will likely then cost the schools several thousand dollars for contempt each time they violate a court order. It is not a matter of one school or another being allowed to do it as the courts have already ruled. It could go on for ten years at a school or end next week.

I am not sure if he is the best as such things are so subjective but I think Dustin Hood from Nederland is certainly in consideration from that school. He was all district in football and 1st Team All-State as a senior yet did not take a football scholarship. He played four years in high school baseball making all district shortstop three times and also as an all district pitcher making him all district in two positions. Then he went on to play college baseball at Wake Forest and I believe started every game of his career including as a true freshman. He basically reached the very top of two major high school sports and it continued to excel in college in one of them. There are a lot of two sports players in high school but he not only played but was at the head of the line. But then you have to look at similar credentials from Eric Cammack who ended up for a brief time in the majors................
