All the new coaches come in saying things we like to hear.
I will give you that, with one caveat, I don't remember Grey Giovanni talking big.  He was pretty much small time.  Great guy though.  Liked him a lot.
Forgot about Grey. Where is he now?
he's at a D3 school i believe
Coaching at LU will send you to the coach's graveyard shift.
where's Newell at?  :D
Dare I say "last I heard" he had resigned after the 2009-2010 as head coach of Arkansas Monticello Boll Weavils (D2 -UCA's old conference).  His star player for part of that time was Nate Newell--remember him?  He was just over .500 while there.

SMU was really good? Legally? ...perhaps before the second World War? I can't seem to remember. BUT...you are right...it is all about today and the future...Billy Tubbs is the past...and Bobby Knight is the past...but these guys were winners once upon a time. Billy loves his alma mater. I just don't understand people on this thread that have such negative views about the most successful men's basketball coach in Lamar's history. It's a new day...and I'm wishing the best for our new coach.
People have been saying bad things about Pat Foster?  Shame!

While I highly doubt the Blue Devils are coming to Beaumont, and I'm not sure Knight is the right guy, I want to think that because of who he is that he may have some contacts to at least beef up the schedule at home, I'm not expecting Duke, UConn, Pitt, but better than Louisiana College
Nobody said Duke is coming. Why do you always have to bring the rain. The hope is can Knight at least try to bring Duke here.
Coach K can help a friend out.
Coach Cal didn't help Roc and they spent a lot of time together.  Maybe Dook will come and play by SLC rules; i.e., with SLC officiating.  It trumps talent every time.

    http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/Lamar-interviews-Knight-7-others-for-men-s-1317455.php
It's not obvious from reading the article but this was not an announcement by Lamar.  If you look carefully, at the end of one paragraph it says "...the source said."  I assume that means the source wasn't the university.  Also if you look carefully at the print article, they list new applicants.  One of them was the head coach at West Liberty (DII - West Virginia).  They were ranked #1 and only lost one game, in the semifianls of the national tournament.

Please tell me you're joking. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
You don't like dark eyes (and sockets) and John Travolta suits?  If she gets some sleep she might be okay and her hair is better....or at least, different from Roc.

The biggest thing Abettamarco did at the time that I am familiar with was he said that Patrizi's was a poor excuse for an Italian resturant.  The other thing was jump ship to what he believed was a stronger basketball conference after only two years.
I asked  puddin because I believe he didn't know and his opinion was just a follow the crowd.

Abatemarco basically said he didn't like the City of Beaumont because we lacked Italian restaurants. Keep in mind this was long before Dowlen we know today. He was also a bit overbearing. But that's it. His crime of the century; bad mouthing Beaumont.
Let he who has never spoken negative about Beaumont cast the first stone.
Those Italian resturaunts were run by members of the Italian-American community who welcomed him with open arms.  They felt betrayed when he started trashing them in Eastern newpapers.  He also signed up to do commericials where he would throw away the script and say whatever came into his head--not the best way to treat sponsors.  I usually agree with the guy who does his homework, Bob West, but it's beyond me why Bob thinks Tom was such a good Xs and Os guy.  The Cards spent the better part of two seasons in gimmick defenses, box and one, triange and two, to the point where you wondered
    what the base defense was.
Because he is a great X and O guy. Stop confusing his basketball skills with his speaking before thinking.
Just saying it doesn't make it so

If anyone thinks it will be any place other than Frisco, you are off your rocker!

This conference should go back to higher seeds venue. It is ridiculous for any Low Major conference that is only getting one bid no matter what the records are to be having a conference tourney that doesn't benefit the teams that played the best over the 16 game schedule. Every other year this conference sends a 16 seed for the slaughter leaving a 14 or 15 seed that could have an upset out in the cold. What good does that do the SLC??
The SLC should not have a tournament, period.
Without the SLC tourney then no conference games would be on ESPN.  Besides, if the best team in the SLC can't win the conference tourney then I doubt they will be able to win a game in the NCAA tourney.  The SLC is a weak basketball conference so it really doesn't matter what they do.
Then who's going watch them on tv?  Let the west champ play the east champ for the right to go--they only televise one game anyway.  When you're bad why look for ways to send worse?

Update on coaching applicants from PA News.      I hope they aren't really interested in Pat Knight.  There are a few encouraging applicants on the list.

    http://panews.com/sports/x449500653/Pat-Knight-biggest-name-eying-Lamar
I hate to tell you but this is not a list of who's who of available applicants.  Cross is good and maybe skelton and Cyprien are good, but when you look at the other jobs open you see all the real top flight assistants are on their lists and they are not on LU's.  20 years ago a lot of those guys would have been pursuing the Cardinal job.  Look at the records of the guys who have had head D-1 coaching experience.  What does that tell you?  Steve Green has a really good record and I remember him on Foster's staff.  I wonder why he has not gotten a  4 year head coach job yet.
20 years ago???  Do you remember the guys we have hired for the last 20 years.  They have not been top flight assistants.  Tubbs and Foster are the only two coaches with real success from Lamar and neither were big names when they got the job nor have we ever had big names apply.  It is a fact of life.
If you remember right, Abatemarco was maybe the top name assistant in the country when we hired him over Del Harris.  Just didn't know he was a flake.  Newell also had a very good name as an assistant to Tubbs at OU and then a good record as a HC at UALR.  After that, the quality has gone down.  That is a fact!!!!
Newell was happy to come because he knew UALR was about to fire him.

And there lies the problem, if a coach thinks LU is a stepping stone, can you imagine what the recruits are thinking.
I don't believe coaches take a job thinking "once I do well here, I'll be gone in 3 years." The hardest part is doing well. Just ask Roc.

Why are we worried about a coach leaving when we haven't had a good one in 20 years??
Half the people on this board were worrying about someone stealing Roc away before he had ever coached one game.  They will hire the best coach they can and worry about him leaving when the time comes.

Tidwell is waiting till after the Final 4 - that makes me thing they are looking at an assistant at a TOP program.  A program that Tidwell expects to be in the Final 4.  That would throw some interesting names in the mix, but as of right now my money is on Terry.
Coaches meetings take place around the Final Four but having it done by then doesn't necessarily mean waiting until then.

BR 360, I haven't heard anything about a new coach, and I don't believe the players have either. It seems like Woodard has taken over the play calling duties for this next season.
Does anyone know that Hindshaw is gone or are you just jumping to that conclusion because he wasn't on the field during the Red-White game?  There could be a lot of other reasons for him not being out there.

Has anyone heard anything about Lamar buying the library and renovating it into classroom?

I found it on another board.
Continuing Education (the non-credit stuff) took over the downtown library a year ago.

Yes they do have a training staff. David McDonald is the trainer and the guy Mike James ran over trying to save a rebound. He can't run out to the floor until coach Roc tells him too for some reason.

Also, the college rule about throwing elbows to clear space is an automatic technical fall if done above the shoulders I think. Then refs can go to the monitor to see if it was intentional and can even eject the player.
I also thought that they should go out to tend to Minor, but I sit close to the bench and heard coach Roc tell them NOT to got out.  He said it a couple of times to make sure they understood.
Coy, Lamb and Brown had to carry him off the court.
That saved a time-out
