3. So why are they leaving in the middle of the year? I know that schools are cutting teachers at the end of the year, but if there is a contract signed, why leave early?

I think its funny how people are talking about a state championship and Evadale has not even played their first game yet.
exactly!
people do it all the time in football and other sports at all levels about how teams will do even before a season starts. They are doing it for pro football already and the season just ended. Evadale, from last years outcome, is a strong team with a lot of returners. Give some respect to them and their program.
 7.
You and me both know Evadale will have to earn it because nobody gives them ANY CREDIT what so ever!! Thats okay though I believe in them and this thread will prolly go downhill very very fast! LOL
People on this site understand that Evadale is one of the strongest teams in the state in 1A. The team has proven that for years that they are strong in 1A. The only riff some of the posters on here have is that some of the Evadale faithful are a little too proud and at times shoot their mouth off. They aren't the only one's though. Got some in 20-4A and 19-4A that do the same......  ;) But to answer the question of the thread, yes I believe Evadale has, by far, the strongest chance of anyone else to win state in this area.
 8. I think we all understand your point, but it's a rule that's in place to safeguard students to being students first. Nothing against anyone who does well in all but one class and needs legitimate help, but the rule is there to ensure that their time is spent on what is most important, grades and education. Sports are an extracurricular activity, not the reason the child is in high school. I can sympathize for those who are denied competing in games because of this, but it's just how it is nd I doubt it ever changes

Im not tring to rub anything in... just want to compare... kville could have scored late...IDK
I'm thinking that may have happened as well... K-ville may be that good though....
 10.
who keeps score in a scrimmage
every team.... they know what the score is. It's not a determining factor of a win or loss, but I promise a coach and/or team knows when the opponent scores and how often.
 11. it doesn't necessarily mean that WO-S isn't as good as touted. It's a scrimmage. Coaches are trying to make decisions on players. Also, in scrimmages, your #1, 2, or 3 pitcher aren't going the whole game. Starting lineups only last a couple of innings, which means back-ups are in the game getting chances to perform. Sometimes the subs come through and play well sometimes not. I'd like to know what the game was like when it was Starters vs. Starters, other than that, a final score may be a little skewed
 12. it definitely will be a good district battlle
 13.
Not all "students" have great support at home. Some really need the influence of athletics and the people in it. Just remember the rules are made for everyone not just the students with great home lives and wonderfull parents that are there to support them.
exactly the point.... the student-athletes need to be a part of the programs and tutorials. Completely taking the student away from the program would only hurt the student.
 14.
Hank jones??  ???
If he has a breakout season and EC has a core of players around him, then he could have a chance. You have to have a solid team around you to help you look good. I can't remember the last time the MVP didn't come from the district champs
 15.
I believe they need to be completely out of any after school activity until the grade's are brought up at progress report time. If they fall behind than maybe next time they will work harder to maintain passing grade's. They need to be studying instead of practicing.
and make sure they are grounded to their room's when they get home, with no TV or other 'extras' until they finish their homework. How far would you want to extend this? Yes, the most important aspect is to maintain a passing average for all classes, but I would like to know what school has no tutorial time alotted, the coach doesn't allow the athlete to go to tutorials, and the name of the principals and teacher that aren't saying anything about it either
 16.
Warren didn't sweep Kountze
You are correct UT, Warren lost in the seventh inning to Kountze the first half of district and Warren won the second. They did however start mostly freshmen
 17. What about schools that have 9 week intervals. If they pass, they are eligible throughout the entire 9 weeks; if they fail, they have each three weeks inside the 9 weeks to be passing all classes. In the athletic sense, more schools would benefit from this style. IMO, those schools who have 6 weeks grading periods are at a possible disadvantage for the athletes that may be on the fence of passing and failing. Either way, the students' first priority should be on passing all classes, and then playing their sport. And the alotted time per week is very rarely overly abused. Will a coach extend practice a little pass regulated times, probably; but they aren't stupid enough to go hours a day over their limit. I don't think they are anyways... ;)
 18. You're right. I made a brass prediction based on what happened last year. I hope all the best for kountze.
 19.
Hey there BaseballWarrior... Just so that we are all on the same page, why don't you tell everybody here exactly why the lefty was home-schooled last year.  I'm sure we will all be happy to hear your take since you seem to know all about it!
I can't say exactly why he was home-schooled because it would be a defamation of character for an athlete. Not something that needs to be discussed on this forum. I was just iterating that hopefully he has learned from mistakes
 20.
The rule does not prevent you from competing in multiple sports. It prevents you from competiting in multiple sports at the same time. Most sports do not occur during the same season. I believe the intention is for you to finish one sport before starting another. The focus is on the "student" aspect. In reality, they should be provided time to work on academics.
That's exactly what we are talking about. If an athlete competes in baseball and track at the same time, according to how this reads, would be a violation right? Track season officially started Monday, baseball started Friday. However, I'm thinking that something is off about this, because I know for certain that athletes run track and play baseball during the same season and those schools aren't ever reprimanded
 21. That's what I'm thinking. I know of athletes that have ran track competetion and played a baseball game on the same day, and small schools would definitely be in violation of how the rule seems to read
 22. Wouldn't this still be a violation if the athlete competed in baseball on tuesday, and ran track on tuesday wednesday or thursday? Or what about a UIL Academic event? What would be the ruling on that and where would the violation be implemented if it is a violation?
 23.
Ok you can see it when the season starts:) and the kid that throws mid 80's. Was home schooled last year his freshman year he was the district newcomer of the year... just wait and see
You do know why the lefty was home-schooled last year for kountze right? Hopefully he doesn't make the same mistake twice, and get home-schooled again. Buna Hardin Warren Anahuac EC Deweyville Kountze Hardin will be tough this year. They were a good program last year and should only be better. Kountze does have a chance to be better as well. I'm not sure about their returners or how many of the returners were a part of the issue Kountze had at the end of the year last year Buna will bring back some good players after losing their two strong seniors, Coach Terrier always runs a great program there and shouldn't disappoint this year Deweyville should have some strong starters from last year coming back. I'm not sure how many seniors they had last year, but they had some good young talent. Their freshman pitch last year did great and will only be better East Chambers is a toss-up I believe they lost their starting catcher, but still have Jones. I've seen them play and they are up and down Anahuac is going to be a real threat this year. They are returning many players from their strong team last year and should be looked at more. They have a lot of ability up and down the lineup and come to play hard each and every game Warren is going to be a competitor this year as well. They are still going to be young. They have a good strong catcher as a leader and have a very talented sophomore class, in which 4-6 were starting on varsity by the end of the year. They were very competitive at the end of district last year, just coming short of upsetting Buna and beating Hardin, both away games, both playoff bound teams. Their only loss was their lefty pitcher, and are gaining a few move-ins with talent and a jv player from last year who was ineligible for varsity Each team has viable chances to do well this year, just depends on which one shows up ready to play when district rolls around
 24.
Hope Buna continues the trend and builds on their 4 consecutive district championships and a 45-3 district record. Anahuac will be strong and warren has been progressing every year. should be interesting.  :o [move]Go Cougs[/move]
Buna has been very impressive for the district. I hope Coach Terrier continues his winning tradition there, except for when they play Warren  ;D
 25.
Warren will be returning their entire team minus 1.
Agreed. They are going to be VERY competitive this year with all the returners, and I hear that they have a few move-ins who have some talent. If they get some guys to step up and pitch, they are going to beat a lot of opponents. They started 4 Freshmen all year last year and had other freshmen who were just as good on JV, but their position was filled. This district needs to keep an eye out for Warren this year and the next two.
