  1. OOOPS! Forgot to mention that Dan also beat another nominee- Alverez at K-ville.
  2. So are trying to say that Dan has not done anything this year? I recall that the Mustangs beat Neuman's bulldogs, Huckaby"s bobcats and Crouch's bears. Just some of the coaches that have been nominated as "Coach of the Year"
  3. There is some coach over on the west side of Orange named Dan Hooks. I do agree that all of the coaches that have been mentioned on this thread have had amazing seasons and have done wonderful jobs this season but, the fact of the matter is that none of these good coaches have done anything that Hooks has not done this season and so many other seasons time and again. He does not get the credit due to him because they "always" win. I would think that a real football fan would understand that the wins are not just given to him and the players, they are earned because of hard work and because of the manner that he has run the program. It is true that the coaches named have done a good job this year but why not recognize a good job year after year? Not just a one year wonder.
  4. Bunting the baseball is one of the major problems and frustrations that I have run across while coaching baseball for many years in Little League and High School. I have always told my players and still believe that Bunting a baseball is the easiest thing that there is to do in the game of baseball. Think about it, feilding a ball, throwing a ball to a small target, trying to hit a ball traveling at 70-90 M.P.H. in a mini-second is much harder than sticking your bat out and letting the ball hit it. I think it does take practice to be really good at it but I also feel that if you can not stick a bat out and watch a ball hit it then you probably will not be a good hitter either. Too many coaches hurt the players and team by over-coaching bunting style and and make it more complicated and harder than it really is.
  5. Very, Very classy. These young men, parents, coaches and fans need to remember that these are just young, soon to be adults. It is just a game and the game should be fun to play. At he end of the game respect should always bee given to the other team, win or loose. Everyone needs to understand that both teams have put the same effort and work into the game but only one team can win.
  6. I have read all of these post and it baffles me that nobody has once thought of the REAL DEAL. He is at WO-S, Coach Jimmy Hallman. Nobody even comes close to touching him or his abilities. This man owns that box and every thing that happens on or off the field. He moves with grace, style and attitude. Few people know what tangibles he brings to the game. He was a star in football, baseball, track and Believe it or not SOCCER. Yes I said Soccer. It is time to give this award hands down to Jimmy and end this debate.
  7. Can you give me the game times for each group?
  8. HF "Slipped up" and "over-looked" WO-S? Why is it so hard for some people to just admit that they got beat? I was at the game and the better team won the game and actually should have won by more runs than they did. WO-S was dominate on the mound, defense and hitting. Those are facts, look at the box score. Nobody handed WO-S the victory, they took it! Yes teams do have bad games but this was not one of those situations. HF played a good baseball game but just lost to a team that played better- plain and simple.
  9. Now back to the game. Anderson pitched one heck of a game. WO-S put the bat on the ball all night and finally they started to fall in. The defense played great except for one miscue resulting in the only HF run. After watching the WO-S program for many years the one thing that really shows to me that they are heading in the right direction is something I saw that might have gone un-noticed by many. After the error which cost WO-S a run and gave HF a shot at tying or winning the game there were no heads down or bad talk to the kid who misplayed the ball. Every team member was picking him up and staying positive. That attitude has been missing for a long time. This team plays as a team and has lost some games as a team. They show what team sports are about. Good game guys and keep it rolling!
  10. Come on now old Gabe. Sometimes we just like to give the fans their moneys worth. Hodge pitched one heck of a game. There was also sound defense and timely hitting by both teams. I am almost sure there were no errors by either team. Tonight was just a very well played ballgame by both teams.
  11. I saw K.P. play all 5 of their games at the Certa- Bearden tournament in West Orange and believe me when I say that they are very good. Good coaching, good defense, good hitters and good pitching. I am told that they are a young team so watch out for these guys, they will get even better!
  12. I want to reply to comment about the "Stangs looked down". I was there and do have to agree with that statement. I also do not want to sound as if I am making excuses but there are factors involved that need to be taken into consideration. 1) Most of the students have been working hard on the TAKS test all week. 2) The students were informed earlier in the day that the Inspire 12 program was being shut down. For those who do not know about the program, it is a privately funded program for graduating students from WO-S and LC-M. Provided the student meet certain requirements, the program pays for scholarships (everything but lodging) to any Texas state college. Last year they paid for 175 children to attend college. I know that from talking so some of the senior kids that they are hurt and feel like they have been thrown under the bus and are very disappointed. Now many of these kids will not be able to attend college because of finances. What I am trying to say is that yes they looked down but they had reasons to be if that was the case.
  13. These "Tournaments" have become a joke. I thought that a "Tournament" meant that all of the teams played and in the end there would be ONE true dominant team. How does LC-M even get a chance to play for the "Championship" loosing 2 games? No I am not picking on the bears but lets get real and quit calling these "Tournaments" when it is just to play a bunch of games and then the home team says they won the "Tournament". Which did not happen! But I guess the bears got "Second Place" since they loss ONLY 3 games!
  14. I agree. The team has improved very much and will surprise a lot of people. The team speed and depth at each position is outstanding. Pitching depth is a question mark but should be strong enough to win a lot of ball games. The new coach has brought a new plan and team discipline that has been lacking. Opponents need to watch out for this hungry group of guys.
  15. Lets all get real here now! The big NED gets so much hype that is way undeserving. Sit back in your chair dog fans and face reality. You were waxed at home by a 3A school (WO-S). You are begging to get in the playoffs only because of the idiots in Austin who are letting 4 teams go to the playoffs in 4A. Give me a break and face the music- The Dogs have no bite and are way bellow average. I am not sure that you could even make the playoffs in our district. Be real! Yall are just plain and simple average, nothing more!
  16. Let me put it simple and clear- No KID should be allowed to play above their age bracket. NO IF ands or BUTTS! This is only occurring because parents think that their kids are so wonderful and talented at such a young age. After all of the smoke clears later on in the child's life he will see that NO he was not the next Babe Ruth or Nolan Ryan. What has transpired instead is that these young children have been brought up in age to believe that they are so good, better than their friends and heads and tails above anyone their age. I promise you that it all evens out later in high school and those young men that were the prima-donna's usually are too cocky to be on a "team" and are outcast by the rest of the team or they end up with ruined throwing arms because of all of the innings they pitched to make Mom, Dad and coach happy. In all due respect to the parents and coaches of these young men- Do you even care about these young men and how they mature to be adults, or is just about you? Get your own life and quit trying to impress yourself at their ex pence!
  17. WO-S. Probably down to 2 seniors that Will be one and two but they will have a pretty deep staff this year with several underclassmen looking good. Looks like Seniors Cody Hodge and Taylor Bonnin will be the go-to guys. Both are big ,strong and have good control.
