I would recommend these spring and summer camps to anyone wanting to play at the next level. Most are not free until you have proven yourself however a hundred dollars or two now could save you thousands later.

You have to understand that this area has some of the best DBs in the nation. So that's not surprising.

Wow! I'm very proud to say I'm from the Golden Triangle. We were WELL represented in Houston today. So much talent had people buzzing about our area.

I can agree with that to an extent. Navasota was an incredibly talented team top to bottom. Carthage was very good as well. When you look at their enrollment compared to that of WOS, you will see why they were bigger and deeper. WOS played Division 1 teams in the playoffs last year. And the argument could be made that had we been in division 2 we would have made it to state. This year WOS will play teams with identical enrollment. That, in some instances, will level the playing field. Not predicting they will make it to state, but this year they have a better chance than they've had in a long time.

There is no scoring for Rivals. It's strictly a skills camp. No testing. They rate kids on one on one competition for linemen, defensive backs and receivers and quarterback skills.

I think someone said it earlier. You must start early. You have to sit down with your child and make sure that's what he wants to do. However, you can't just show up, you have to compete. There are thousands of kids who want the same opportunity. It can get expensive, but believe me when I say it's worth the investment. It's a process, but if you hang in there, you'll see the benefit.

I'll say this and im not directing this toward anyone but some kids play HS sports to get out of the community/area they reside in, some folks may not understand that aspect either.

Sometimes it's good to pick some schools that your son is interested in and go to their camps also. The one on one time with the coaches and staff just cant be beat. Combines are great but it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. My son is a sophomore this year and we attended 7 combines and three college camps last year, and we got more feed back from colleges just by being at their school than any of the combines. The combines are good don't get me wrong we are planning more this spring, but a face to face with a coach could leave a better impression than just numbers and film could.

What is his classification? What did he do last summer as far as Camps?

VNUPE, I was looking at a prospective list of district alignments that came out before the official UIL release this month. That list had WO-S in the same region with all the other teams I listed. Sorry for that. On paper, LaMarque is the biggest concern from our region. Even with that said, I never want to be overconfident because as the season progresses so many things can change - injuries, flunking grades, game killing turnovers, opponents becoming better than expected, etc. There is always a couple of teams that nobody expected to be strong who develop into good teams and then you have to face them come playoff time. I refute the "we're a shoe in to win state" mindset. Always respect your opponent, factor in the unexpected, and remember these are 15, 16, and 17 year old kids.

That right there shows you what kind of academics the kid has. Not taking anything away from the other schools,as they are great also, but ND isnt exactly a communty college. Lol. Congrats D! Man, those are tough decisions. But id bet its one that 99% of hs players wish they could make but never even get 1 offer!
