In 2024, Region III may run through Huntsville.  At times, they played 9 JRs and SOPHs on defense.  They have size, quickness, and they were physical.  The Hornets practice tackling and it shows.  They don’t arm tackle.  Plus, Huntsville will return their QB and RB.  They will be tough next season.  All that said, PN-G handed out hits of their own last Friday.  It’s hard to run the ball when there are 9 defenders within 5 yards of the LOS.  When PN-G gets the lead, the coaches will squeeze the clock.  Second halves may not look pretty, but the formula works.  I’ll take 26 wins over the last two seasons and there’s a good shot we can rack up 28 wins in our last 32 games.  Sign me up for more ugly second halves.

In many ways Huntsville was a tougher game than LC.   With LC, their points came off of 1 busted coverage and 2 fumbles. Huntsville actually had a sustained drive on their own. (And 1 drive with very obvious assistance from the refs.) Like the sentiment in the quoted post says, watch out for Huntsville in 2024.

Does PNG have a preference for indoor or outdoor ? I know the LH coaches always want the game outdoors when possible .

SETX teams are accustomed to be playing in heat, humidity, rain, refinery and paper mill odors, plant explosions, hurricanes, and heavy fog. But I think they like it at NRG and Jerry World just fine.

The Indians have had a tough couple of games for the past 2 weeks, but I think they'll be ok against LH as far as the off and def lines are concerned, and the DBs and LBs as well.

Howdy from Liberty Hill !  Come over to talk to you fine people from the East of our great state of Texas .  Enjoyed the talks last yr . Reading on here this year looks like y'all done kicked the scat out of us before the young men have evern taken the field . I understand what LH is up against but the boys like to play football and win or lose that doesn't change from year to year .  It's been a tuff yr for the Panthers injury wise but they got some players back just in time to run the table over here in region 4 .   Yeah the defense is had to grow up a lot this yr . They getting better but having said that it's going to be a tuff row to hoe this week .  But here's to a gd game for both teams with no injuries . For sure the winner of this game it's going to need all hands on deck for the big game and for sure I'll be pulling for the winner either way our game turns out .     Sorry for the long post , I'll try to keep future post shorter .... LHFan80

Hey man!  I see a few LH folks on the NDN Press fb site also.   Looking forward to a great game!

You’re right. You can see in this halftime drone shot a few pockets of empty space on both extreme ends (ignoring the band area). Not a ton but there were empty seats.

8 minute mark in the video:

I think one of those seats ended up being mine. Just before the half I was in line at the concession stand for probably 15 minutes, and there must have been 100 people in line with me, and probably 100-200 or so more just milling around or standing watching from the covered area behind the lower deck. In fact I stood up in that area behind the lower deck for much of the first half, because I couldn't see well from where I was on the upper deck.  After the half I found a couple of seats over on the end at the 5 or 10 yard line.

The NRG venue sure was nice last night, with the live video and replays on the scoreboards. But I'll buy tickets for next Friday, at this so-called small stadium, even if we sit on the LH side.

Coaching changes are tricky. Must be the right coach. PNG got it right with the help of Dodge. A lot of folks snickered when PNG hired Todd to help with the search but the guy knows the guys in the business that can beat you with theirs or yours. Pretty sure a certain NISD school board member has TD’s number 😉

I still don't know any confirmed, for sure, details about PNG's coaching change. I'm just a somewhat casual observer, though, and haven't pushed or nosed around for any details. But I do know that Faircloth and his family were fairly popular with players and PNG families. A dedicated PNG sports site even has a separate place in the forum dedicated to him, and folks still follow the team that he now coaches. There were several players that quit football over it. Of course, the kids that stuck it out enjoyed last years' success, and so this year several of the boys that left, returned, and are part of this years' team.

I don't think Coach J. was very widely popular at first with last year's team. He worked them very hard.  Only the kids that wanted it,  stuck it out. Especially after the first game, the disaster home game against Memorial, PNG's worst home opener ever, many folks were shaking their heads. By the end of the season last year, almost all of the above was forgotten.

    PN-G 35  Lake Creek 21.

Other than 24 by Memorial in week one, 20 points is the most any team has scored against our starting defense this season.

    WOS 20

    Ned 9

    Fort Bend Willowridge 20

    TX City 16

"Starting" = playing regularly, in my way of thinking.  For example, there are linebackers that swap in and out, and rotate who plays the initial series.  Perhaps the same with some of the linemen.

But I know what you mean, and agree. Against Galena Park pretty much all of the defense and offense were back-ups to the back-ups, playing various positions. #11 was QB, eg; and I didn't know who the defensive linemen and linebackers were, and neither did the press box, he was just announcing numbers, and no names.

Shea returning has given the team a new spark, and the seniors can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think they are ready and anxious to get onto the field against this #1 ranked team and get it on.

Let’s see what happens this week - I think we might have to deal with Huntsville instead. The Hornets aren’t the same team they were a few weeks ago. And that’s assuming PNG even wins this week (I think we will, but still).

Yeah, I'm not looking past MLC, just looking over at the other games. This should be a good game, but I think if PNG keeps playing like they've been playing then they'll take it to them. I'm just glad that LC is the one that's ranked #1. PNG already played the team that was ranked #2, and won that one, 7-0.

That Leander band won 2nd in the state marching contest and came out with two songs.  Confusing.

I agree. They played all night, but did very little on the field at HT.  Not saying they aren't good; they are, and their drill team. Respectful, too. They stayed in tight formation behind the end zone until the home team band was finished. (Brenham drill team did the same last week, btw, but not their band.)

WRT the game, 4th qtr, the screen pass razzle dazzle play that scored Rouse's 2nd TD, I was waiting for a flag for illegal formation. No way they had 7 guys on the LoS, I thought.  So, I watched the replay today, and it was close, but looked legit enough for the refs to give it to them. No matter, with a 51-7 score at that point in the game. But I know I saw PNG try to do something similar a few times last season and get flagged.

I definitely agree that Lake Creek is a little overrated with the 1 ranking.  They look good and they like to run it up on bad teams.  Their toughest opponent this season I’m sure is Richmond Randle.  That was a pretty close game until LC erupted for 21 straight points in the 4th Qtr.  However, Randle had over 500 yards of offense, and LC won the turnover battle 4-0.  Huntsville also had a 17 point 2nd half lead after punching them in the mouth early, but their defense tired and LC got the momentum back for the comeback win.
PNG needs to key on bowling ball Byers and keep him in check at the line of scrimmage.  Don’t let him get a head of steam or he is hard to bring down.   I think when LC meets the physicality of PNG, they won’t stand up.  Wouldn’t shock me if PNG runs away with it.  Wrong team is #1.

Not trying to look ahead, but Randle may really be the team to watch out for, PNG or anyone else.
