Nederland vs PNG MCM #100! Official thread :)1970 replied to bulldawg64's topic in High School Football I heard yesterday that the Nederland student section had a scoreboard to keep up with how many times Cherokee was played, and the number reportedly ended up in the 40s somewhere. It's one of the few songs that never gets old. A few years ago I was checking out at one of the businesses in PN, and the young lady cashier had musical notes tattooed on her forearm, from the wrist up to about the elbow. I commented, "please tell me that's not the PNG fight song", and she laughed out loud and said "no sir it's not". She didn't say what song the notes represented, and at that point I didn't ask.

It's Senior night, so parents or representatives will be on the field with the players pre-game. Otherwise, this game will be about taking care of business and winning district undefeated in district. With this coaching staff, the score does not matter, and who is playing does not matter, whether it be back-up or 2nd back-up or whatever, and whoever they are playing against doesn't matter, the same intensity is expected, and the coaches have the same intensity. Last Friday the kid that got the USC call against him in the 4th qtr, that gave the Bulldogs a first down instead of 4th and long, regardless of PNG's big lead, got some first hand experience of that intensity from 2 or maybe 3 coaches on the sideline right in front of where we were seated. The stands got sort of quiet and the coach could be heard, and some of the ladies (moms, probably) were getting upset. One lady yelled down at the coach (twice), "we can hear you, coach!". I said, "that kid is learning a lesson, and 5 minutes from now he'll be back on the field, and the same coach will pat him on the back". But the whole team will do 15 ups and downs next week, one for each yard of the penalty.

Both teams are tough but TC will be wanting to get it done, and I think they have a little more horsepower both in the back field and on the lines.

Nederland vs PNG MCM #100! Official thread :)1970 replied to bulldawg64's topic in High School Football I parked on the roadside of a side street, about 2 blocks away, not too bad. It's been a while since I attended a varsity game there. I've always enjoyed playing the Bulldogs. With them you can win 40-0 or whatever, and still feel like you've been in a close game.

Fort Bend Willowridge (56) @ Dayton (22) - FINAL1970 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football This one doesn't surprise me, and I didn't get it wrong. WR has some big strong kids, and plenty of speed. We saw it when they played PNG, and saw that they could be some spoilers down the stretch. Lots of players playing both offense and defense, though. It's back to the drawing board for Dayton now I think. They'll bounce back strong next year.

Nederland vs PNG MCM #100! Official thread :)1970 replied to bulldawg64's topic in High School Football Where is parking at Nederland Stadium? Other than the two rows by the gate. Are there any parking lots anywhere around the stadium?

Nederland vs PNG MCM #100! Official thread :)1970 replied to bulldawg64's topic in High School Football Indians should take this one easily. Bulldogs will leave it all on the field, though; but then will likely fall flat the following week and get drubbed by TC, just like last season or worse.

Don't take anything away from TC, they're a very good team. Also don't take Willow Ridge for granted either. Just my $0.02.

Nederland vs PNG MCM #100! Official thread :)1970 replied to bulldawg64's topic in High School Football Re the 1947, 71-0 game, I've heard about it many times from my father-in-law. PNG kicked off to start the game, my FIL hit the Ned runner, who fumbled. PNG covered the fumble, then scored, and went on to win 71-0. PNG starters laid down on the sidelines for almost the entire 4th Qtr. The '47-'48 team(s) lost only 1 game in 2 seasons, to Lake Charles (in Lake Charles), which was a farce, officiating-wise. My FIL is 93 years old now, and still talks about it.

The system crashed briefly, then came back up. I was able to grab 2 seats, but I know of one person whose account was debited but still has not received an email with tickets.

Nederland vs PNG MCM #100! Official thread :)1970 replied to bulldawg64's topic in High School Football On paper, this one should be no contest, (just like last season). But Ned has many returning starters, while PNG has a few. PNG's QB is new, but he's played Ned before. The biggest factor may end up being the officiating. From what I hear, that's what got Ned past Dayton. BTW, where will the Ref crew be from for this year's game?

Is there a requirement to have played in a district game (varsity or otherwise) to be eligible for the playoffs? Someone on one of the forums mentioned this last week, but I'd never heard of that.
-
Just based on the numbers, this game should be a bench-clearing shutout for PNG. I expect the game to be similar to the Willow Ridge game, however, for the observers, with pretty much plain vanilla play calling. Don't ever take any high school game for granted, but it would be handy if SF runs similar defense and offense as Nederland for us.

Port Neches-Groves (41) @ Dayton (14) - FINAL1970 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football Last season's Dayton team may have been a bit stronger than this year's team. They have three tough games ahead of them, including Willow Ridge, regardless of the current WR district W-L record. I'm discounting the homecoming factor, though. I'll say this, though, the Dayton QB has a good arm and throws a pretty pass. When throwing on the run he loses more than a little oomph; and in the 2nd half he (and his coach) was trying to force things, understandably. Anyway, it's always a good game, PNG and Dayton. My only complaint I think, was the length and slow speed of the concession stand line on the visitor side.

	Wow!

Port Neches-Groves (41) @ Dayton (14) - FINAL1970 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football Should read, "centers". There are several doing long snaps pre-game, every game, with Coach J. watching. I watch because one of them is mine; but anyway there still isn't any great consistency with any of them. Everyone holds their breath with each snap, and maybe that's just how it's going to be, this season. Or maybe not; maybe things will all eventually "snap" in place.

Nederland (19) @ Fort Bend Marshall (21) - FINAL1970 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football Looking at some of the clips, FBM didn't look as speedy as they did earlier in the season, especially the D-backs.

I plan to try that sometime. BTW, driving through Liberty, a place called Tiger Harry's looked like it was packed; the parking lot was full. If I'm not mistaken the building used to be a fish market type place, with a sign across the top that listed gar, buffalo, choupique, raccoon, etc., maybe even possum. Now the sign lists fish, steaks, chicken, and boudin. We'll have to try this place sometime as well.

Texas City (35) @ Fort Bend Willowridge (20) - FINAL1970 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football WR has some size and also some speed, but lots of guys playing on both sides of the ball. The final score ended up very similar to the PNG-WR final score. Have WR and Marshall played yet this season? I didn't check yet, but if not then it could be an interesting game.

Homecoming + Friday the 13th = Double Whammy on the home team.
-
Ok, wait a second - I just purchased tickets and if I read it right, this is Dayton's homecoming? Really?
-
This one may be the big one. I say just go ahead and nuke Iran now and get it over with. To the original post, definitely prayers going up.
