The fact that they moved back, and even back down a classification after one year says it all. You don't uproot your family and move halfway across the state for a 4A "if".

I don’t understand what you mean by “says it all”?   And rusk is not half way across the state and not uprooting your family.  So dramatic.   Maybe QB1 realized he did like it better in Anahuac and liked the people more.  Which is a good thing.  There never was an “if” moving to 4a. It just didn’t work out at that particular school

Why did he leave Hardin for Anahuac ?  Heard rumors but was not sure which was true.

Heard several different reasons.  They wouldn’t let him hire who he wanted to for assistants to get some help. And let’s be honest, it’s Hardin.  That prolly had something to do with it to.

Thats proof positive the grass was not greener at Rusk. It was a poor choice leaving Anahuac, a place where he was set to do very well. Let’s hope they don't make the same mistake and jump ship again.

I don’t think was a poor choice or mistake to play in that competitive district in 4A D2 as a sophomore.  If the environment would have stayed positive, would still be there.  Doesn’t matter he is back in Anahuac for his last  2 years and still set to do well.

Honest question, are you referrring to him individually or the programs sucess? What would the sucess look like? They were 4th place and lost badly to the three teams ahead of them. They were one TD away from 5th place and no playoffs.

Both. Individually and  of course the program would have benefited from him staying. I don’t think they had the talent the other top schools in that district had tho  also don’t think that would have mattered, their culture and environment was headed down hill. Unless there were some big changes this spring.  It was ridiculous. Any father would have took their son out of that situation.

Trotter signed a baseball scholarship and is only playing baseball from what I was told Tom Brady Barrier  moved back his mom got the elementary principal job and we are glad to have him back 🙌 we should be pretty solid  we also got another stud linebacker to go along side Tyler Kelly that moved in from  Crosby

Tom Brady Barrier.   I like that a lot. Nice one AP_5309.   Gonna be an exciting season.   Wish yall the best of luck this year.

  6. 90s and 2000s was about the end of it. Families moving out. No work and wanted a better living.  There isn’t any work to draw families  in anymore.  Nothing is there.   But Houston is getting closer and closer.   They finished 99. Barbers Hill. Dayton is full. Liberty and Hardin is next. I bet Devers ends up with a high school and then it be HD time to grow.  If they build a 1 campus school closer to Hwy 90 the numbers would grow for sure.  But doubt that ever happens.  But I do hope it gets better.

Lol. and I agree about the horsemen thing. Unfortunately that’s stuck with HD. And who knows one day they might get it back.   Since it’s pushing 100 years since the last ones, maybe we due.

Yes, he is a talented player and Anahuac had a nice season, however the topic is Nederland’s upcoming season

Again you have Barrow and staff that continues to do a poor job of coaching, so we are looking at anywhere from 2-8 to 5-5 and sitting at the house again when playoffs begin

Nederland’s administrators are not wise enough to see that the current coaching staff can’t get it done

Must be doing something right with all this chatter about him still on a nederland thread. Don’t hear any chatter about any other freshman QBs in the area.   And as far as the talk about the coach   Man oh man.  Y’all folks are something else. I would like to wish all the luck to nederland football in the upcoming years.

I am looking forward to digging this thread back up in October and revisiting these strong opinions all you guys have.

I am too.   Can’t wait.  Nederland faithful not very welcoming

I have no doubt that details are being left out.  However, the one detail that rings true was mentioned.  HE LEFT.. and it could've been prevented.  Or, at least.. further steps could've been tried to prevent it.  Money, support, assistants, whatever.. he left for a reason and while that reason may not be known by everyone.. there's still a reason that he left a 3A school as a head football coach to go to a 3A school in the same district. His son was going to be the starting quarterback regardless.  I know that Anahuac has a better supporting team but there's gotta be something else.  Didn't I read that his son led their 8th grade team to the district championship?  I know a lot changes between JH and Varsity but he still won.

You are really going to use two of the worst football programs in all of SeTx as the examples of "schools gravitating away from the HFC/AD combination"?  Other than these two football powerhouses, would you mind giving me some examples of some schools 4A and down that are practicing this?  I already know there aren't any others is SeTx.. let's go statewide.

This is all true. And they were champs in jr high.  But from what I know, being AD was not an issue.   It actually was a plus. He had coaches he wanted hired and they didn’t. And it wasn’t the AD. Super and the school board didn’t make it happen. So he left.  It’s that simple.

I'm not trying to stir anything up but some of the info is just not correct.  For example, it's true that he was just the HFC and not HFC/AD.  Before Barrier came, the AD position was given to someone else who has been associated with the school and within the athletic program for over 20 years and this was done to create some consistency with the athletic programs as the HFCs tend to only last 3-4 years, if that, at Hardin.   That said, the salary was very good for Hardin for just being HFC.  It wasn't the "needed more assistants" that was a problem...it was the impossibility of hiring more, due to a lack of candidates that met the criteria.  This is not a problem with just Hardin, but everywhere else too.  I think I read somewhere that at the THSCA coaching school that there were a ton of job postings but not enough candidates to fill those jobs.

Hardin tried to keep Barrier.  People may not believe it, but it's true.

All of that is true.  But it wasn’t the impossibility of hiring coaches.  They could of, and decided not to.  And so he left.  Like I said before they didn’t try keep him in my opinion
