Agreed on the letting his pride go and doing what's best for the program. But is retirement the best for LU? This truly is Gilligans program and I think they would be in a better spot right now if they would just schedule better. The staff over at the Beck has done a great job putting together a solid program, but they are killing themselves with the schedule. Go out and get the type of schedule Sam, UTSA, UTA and TXST are putting out there and we're in good shape. Does it mean we win as many game? Probably not, but the quality of the schedule will overcome winning 30 games a year against a puke schedule.

The fact that it is 2010 and Lamar is just now getting a strength coach, shows how far behind the curve LU really is and how clueless the decision makers for the athletic department have been. At least they did hired somebody.
Are they really that clueless or did they not have the money in the budget before to hire a strength coach?
They never thought it was important to have a strength coach so they probably "didn't have the money" for the strength coach position. There are a lot of things that go on with the brain trust that is the AD and Associate AD that would blow your mind if you knew what little thought or true research went into them. But the consensus is that Tubbs is the best AD in the Southland, so rock on LU!
 3.
BEAUMONT – Scott Reeves, who has overseen the development of more than 30 future NFL players during his career, has joined Lamar’s athletic department as the university’s first strength and conditioning coordinator. Reeves, a four-year letterwinner as an offensive lineman at Rice University in the late 1980s, brings with him 18 years of coaching experience with the bulk of it being as a strength and conditioning specialist. His most recent stop was at Southeastern Louisiana University, but he has also put in stints at Texas A&M, Rice, Kansas State, SMU and TCU. “Bringing Scott into our athletic department is another major step for us,” said Billy Tubbs, Lamar’s director of athletics. “This is the first time we’ve had a strength-and-conditioning coach on campus. “Scott’s focus naturally will be on football, but he’ll also be responsible for the strength-and-conditioning training of all of our athletes. His arrival is coinciding with the approaching opening of our new training facility in the new football field house. “It’s going to be a state-of-the-art facility, so bringing in a professional with Scott’s credentials to overee it was critical for us. Most schools our size have had strength-and-conditioning coaches for a number of years, so this is a big step up for us. Scott will organize his department, and, hopefully, we’ll eventually be able to add to his staff.” Reeves was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M in 2007 when the Aggies’ football team went to the Alamo Bowl, and he was an assistant at Kansas State when the Wildcats went to the 1995 Holiday Bowl. Reeves earned his bachelor’s degree in human performance and health science from Rice in 1990, and he received his master’s degree in physical education/motor control and development from TCU in 1992. He was recognized as the NSCA Strenghth and Conditioning Professional of the Year for the Western Athletic Conference in 1999 and was named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2008. Reeves played football for Rice from 1986-1989 and was presented the Bill Whitmore Award as the most improved offensive player in 1989. A native of Grand Prairie, he and wife Tomara are the proud parents of sons Landon and Daxton and daughter Haydon.
The fact that it is 2010 and Lamar is just now getting a strength coach, shows how far behind the curve LU really is and how clueless the decision makers for the athletic department have been. At least they did hired somebody.
 4. If the consensus is that Tubbs is a great AD, then you guys really do have your heads in the sand. That dude cares a whole lot more about the happenings in Norman, Okla. than here in good ole Beaumont. As I've said before, (and NOTHING that could be said on this board will change my mind) the success that happens at LU happens despite the administration.
 5. No contest today. Loyd scored 28 and the Lady Cards blasted the kittens by 20+. How quickly the "power" team in the women's conference fell from grace.Thet had one amazing player and she was everything for them two years ago. They got roled int he SLC tourney the year the Lady Cards went to the final, and have been putrid ever since. Suzanne Fox isn't a very good coach, IMO, and it is showing. Great job Lady Cards. 5-0 in conference. Keep it going!
 6. Lady Cards have been finding ways to win lately! They haven't been playing their best basketball recently, but they have put W's in the book. Plumley is the best player in the SLC and she'll be a difference maker night in and night out. Brittney Williams is showing that she is still one of the best post players in the conference, Tray Smith is the SLC leader in blocks, Darika Hill is a mismatch problem for every team in the league with the ability to score inside and outside and the play of Green, Crawford and Loyd make this team very dep, despite the lack of actual depth in numbers.
 7.
And why can Custer NEVER finish a play off when he goes up for a layup or dunk?  Is he not strong enough to power through the fouls?
Coy Custer needs two things. A haircut and a mean streak. He never finishes off plays down low because he's soft, and his hair, well, that speaks for itself.
 8. Wouldn't be a totally crazy move. Whitten needs a job, Lamar needs an OC and Whitten has a pretty good understanding of the SLC. From what I know of Whitten, he was a horrible head coach but a solid offensive mind. He probably never should have been given the head coaching job at Sam Houston, but that's thier problem that I guess they have now "fixed".
 9. The Lady Cards are deeeeeeeeeeeeeep this year. They only played eight or so players today, but you could tell that they were way too much for Rice to handle. In reality, the ladies didn't really play all that well, but they are good enough to have a double digit win and score 82 points when they are not clicking at 100 percent and are without their third leading scorer Ang Green who was out with a hammy injury. In my opinion Kalis Loyd is a better overall player than Tamara Abalde was as a freshman, but Tammy was a better pure scorer. Kalis is more of a gamer and she plays much harder. Plumley is a great floor leader for LU. She controls the team and can fill it up when she want and needs too. Ashley Crawford is a nice story for LU this year. Torn ACL two years ago, not a whole lot of production last year, and this year she is a solid contributor. Add in the play of Brittney Williams, Trashana Smith and Darika Hill in the post, and this team has the potential to be really really dangerous in SLC play and possibly dangerous if they could win the conference tournament.

I can ask someone if they will release them to the media but I'm sure if the media asked, then they would release the drawings. I think the public doesn't really seem to inquire/care what the drawings will look like, that is probably why they are skeptical of releasing them. I also know they are hesitant to release things because the plans can/will/are always altered in some way. The money is pouring out of our pockets at Lamar. Regarding the development of the stadium and athletic complex etc., I have counted over 40 people working at the site for the past 2 weeks. And those are just the people I can see from my car. I know they are working on the internal stuff first, plumbing, electrical, etc. You have to make it beautiful on the inside before you get it nice on the outside. I know we're all curious, but I think athletic departments are the busiest places to work. Every time I am around ours, there is always something to do. I intern in an athletic department and there is never a sit around moment when you're not doing something. And trust me, all athletic departments are hard to get a hold of. I had to call 10 AD's yesterday, only got to speak to one. People are busy these days, and that's an understatement at Lamar.
Sounds like you have a great deal less experience in the athletics world than I do. But your opinion is duly noted.  From my decade of experience working in athletics, I know how much down time there really is. And December is one of the times that are the most dead. It’s good to know that somebody out there thinks Lamar is run in such a great way. Because the people I know from around the SLC and other conferences always get a good laugh at how things are developing in Beaumont.
Well from interviewing 4 different schools in different athletic departments around the conference last week, they sure had a lot of nice things to say about Lamar.
I understand what you are saying mffl. In public or in interviews or conversations with someone who they are not friends with, people will say a lot of nice things about another school, but that is what they are supposed to do. It’s bad practice to go around saying bad things about “school X” when you are an official at “school Y”. Over the years I have sat at tables with different athletics big wigs from multiple schools and they all act like they are best buddies when they are there. But away from the table they might not really care for each other. It’s just like politics in that way.  I’m not saying that everyone hates everyone and they are all putting on a show, but it happens quite a bit. I would expect you to hear nothing but great things when you ask others about Lamar and it’s athletic department. If you are not close to the person who you are asking, they probably aren’t going to give you their “off the record” opinion or thoughts. With all that said, I think the majority of the COACHES and their staffs are doing a GREAT job for Lamar and have done amazing jobs over the last several years of building up their programs. It’s a lot of work to be successful while you are being handcuffed by your administration the way they are at LU.

 12.
Why does the athletic department keep everything a secret?  Roc doesn't announce his roster until the season's about to begin.  They won't show us any drawings of the stadium so we're all guessing and relying on rumors to determine what's going on.  I thought they added staff to handle these kinds of things?
Ummmm, because they are poorly run??? They hired a guy who barely knows how to use a computer to head up the sports information department. Does that seem like a good decision? The coaches who have success at Lamar do an amazing job of overcoming the administration there.
 13.
This team has gotten better than anything I imagined. ULM is not great, but they are a top Sunbelt team.
Agreed that ULM isn't the greatest. I looked at their schedule and they do have wins this year over Texas State and Northwestern State. So a dominant win over them is a nice thing to see.
 14.
Britney was a step too slow for this outing.  She did a good job on the sideline as cheerleader though.  I know most of the folks on this site are watching the guys but these ladys are playing some great BB.   The folks that don,t go see them are missing the best/complete girls team I have seen in many years.  Plumley is a pleasure to watch,  as soon as she gets the ball, she has someone in mind to pass to. She uses great passes to get the ball up the court instead of dribbling.  Team mates better watch her at all times or they could be eating a ball. If we had Tamera back WOW!
A step too slow for a game against an NAIA or Division 3, whatever they heck HT is? Probably not. B Williams has played with a bad knee for three years now. My guess would be that the staff used this game to get her some rest since they obviously were not going to need her.

LU women played bad and needs to thank ULL for their long scoring drought at the end of the game.
Ever the optomist aren't you UNLV. I didn't read the story, but since you say ULL lost the game, I would like to thank the Ragin'Cajuns for scoring some points for Lamar in game. If they hadn't scored those 20 points (Brittney Williams) or grabbed 20 rebounds (Tray Smith) there is no way Lamar could have won the game. ::)
This is a sports forum, not nag-fest.
For you of all people to talk about nagging is awesome.

 17.
A high school game costs 5-6 bucks. Lamar getting back into football is not like going to see the Longhorns or Aggies play. I really hope the braintrust at Lamar doesn't get too greedy and price the average fan out of the stadium. This is still a down economy. Folks don't have the extra money to spend, especially if the prices are over-inflated and your are not getting much value for the $.
The braintust at Lamar is a great way to refer to the decision makers involved with the athletic department. It's almost comical to watch the "ideas" they have unfold and/or blow up.
 18. Lmar falls in four to Texas State. Story of the season for Lamar in how they lost. Had leads in the third and fourth sets with the set and match on the line, but could not find enough to finish off the Bobcats. The seniors on this team had a great four year run, but I think they left too much on the floor as a whole this season. They have more talent than Texas State, but couldn't muster the winning points when it was all on the line. Great job getting LU volleyball back as one of the best in the conference. The groundwork has been laid by the last two senior classes, now its time for the youngsters to continue the momentum in the future. With what they return, I think Lamar will be a much more mentally tough team next year.
 19.
Kentucky beat Miami ohio by 2. Kentucky is not a top 25 team.
I'll agree with you that they are NOT a top 5 or 10 team, but Top 25, yes. They are very young and talented and will be relevant late in the year. Top 5 ranking is ridiculous though.
 20. Bearkats played a pretty good game against No. 5 Kentucky. Lost 102-92, but kept it fairly close for the majority of the game behind a great 3-point shooting night. Corey Almond for Sam hit 11 three's, a Rupp Arena record en rout to a 37-point night. All told I think SHSU hit 18 triples. A 10 point loss to the No. 5 team in the country isn't too bad.
 21.
Very Good. The problem is they are not deep. But with starters like Williams, Hill, Plumley, Loyd, and Green, SLC is ours.
Not great depth, but more than they've had in the past. In Tidwell's first two seasons there was ZERO players on the bench that could do much of anything. Now there will be a couple of ladies that can come in and get things done. I look for Ang Green to have a big impact against a lot of the second string players in the SLC. SHe is a starter on almost any other team inthe leage. Plus, hopefully the younger playersthat are potential post players can give Brittney and Darika some time to rest during the games so that they can keep their knees somewhat rested. This could be a fun season for the Lady Cards!
 22.
You guys know nothing about basketball. I expect it from Terror. This is Roc's best and most complete team ever. Once this team gain chemistry, I expect them to be unstoppable in the SLC.
What makes you think this will be Roc's best team since taking over as head coach? I haven't heard much about this group so I didn't know if you have some inside info or something.
 23. This is the same way the Lacy Cards volleyball team has performed for the last several years. The year they won the SLC title they struggled early and found their rythm right before SLC play and dropped just one in conference ont he road at McNeese, then last year they were hot and cold on any given night before finding their groove in the conference tournament. They have the most dynamic player in the conference with Adi Meengs at setter and two first team all SLC players in Kaci Brewer and Laurne Holdorff. OF Genevieve Gladle gets up to full strength and the freshman continue to develop, there is a very good chance they could make another run. The freshman Jayme Bazile from Ozen is a Beast, but needs to get more comfortable in the college game. Once that happens she could be the best player in the league. It won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but LU has the best talent as far as their top 3 players go, now the senior trio must pull this team together for conference play.
 24. Watched the match online and the Lady Cards really got their butts handed to them. VERY disappointing way to open SLC play, really getting embarrased and blown off the court.
 25. Those magazines DID know who was on the team. Just because it wasn't "released" to the public doesn't mean the magazines didn't get the roster from the school so they could do their publications. Happens all the time. Honestly though, the rankings don't mean squat.
