1. Saw a number of players on both Nederland and Kelly using El Gato Cinco tonight.  Umpires and coaches are going to have to enforce new rules.  Never understood why a white bat is legal, but white sleeves on a pitcher is not.  Tough for fielders and pitcher to see ball off bat.
 2. Game location and time changed (now 4:30 p.m.) due to wet Nederland field.
 3. Kelly has returners at every position.  Freshman, Ford Proctor should be a good addition at Shortstop.  As is the case with everyone, pitching depth will be critical in non-district play (tournaments, etc.) to keep arms fresh going into district.  Warner, Steinhagen, Darling, and Hayes will be a good base for the pitching staff, with 5-6 others who can eat some innings.  Defense should be good as should hitting.  Warner and Steinhagen were the homerun hitters last year (both return).  But with the depth of returners, Coach Stope will have the ability to go with the hot hitters at each position.  With a challenging non-district schedule, it should prepare them for district play with St. Thomas, Houston Christian, and St. Pius.

 5. Congrats Brandtley.  This kid is an exceptional leader.  The USA just got a little bit stronger today.
 6. Unbelievable.  Too young.  Prayers to the family during this holiday season.

 8.

Bigred, please tell me why he was a good coach. His record speaks for itself. I was there for 4 years when Hentschel was coach. The play calling wasn't very good. I played defense so are no sour apples. Like I said, I have nothing against him and I think is a great guy, but he just wasn't a good coach. The school board probably wishes they would've picked someone else. There were other good candidates when Rabb got it. I'm surprised they let him coach that long, most coaches would be gone before going 7 years without making playoffs. Back to thread, i hope WB gets a great coach and I'm sorry to see Stump go.
Scalp'em, I'm not saying he is the greatest Head Coach in the history of the school but he was/is better than some are making out. Just like the post above states a lot of kids when Ozen was first opened wanted to play there because it was the old Hebert where their dad's/uncles/relatives played and won a few state titles. Now, how can I know this? Because, I was told this by my brother who was on the WB coaching staff. He thinks Al Rabb is a fine coach and great person. He said he was a good offensive coach but there were factors that he either over-looked or wasn't able to do anything about. For example, can a defensive staff put in a game plan in an hour and a half? Heck, no you can't but there were times at West Brook where that happened. If you don't think opening Ozen affected the quality/numbers of athletes at WB I don't know what else to say.
Ageed BigRed.  Funny how some posts on Kelly's playoff run stated it was because of Coach Rabb's presence that they succeeded.  Now he is being villified here.  Coach Rabb is a good coach and an even better man/role model for the kids he coaches.  Good luck Coach Stump.
 9. Excellent post Bruce!!  You hit it all 100%.  I don't blame Coach Stump for moving, especially if his wife and kids can improve their lifestyles as well.  Thank you Coach Stump for your time spent here.  You helped a number of kids during your tenure in SE Texas.
 10.
Two things that helped this guy out, first and most important al rabb is there, and next taaps is very week this year.
TAPPS is very weak this year? Relative to which time frame?  The three teams Kelly has beaten in the playoffs all have featured Division I signees or soon to be signees.  Dallas Bishop Dunne featured the #88 Rivals.com prospect, and Univ. of Texas commit, Alex Norman.  Last week, Kelly defeated the 2 time defending TAPPS state champs, which featured a 6' 9" 240 pound WR, who also is a Kansas basketball commit and a quarterback, Parker Ash, who is being heavily recruited as well.  Kelly has been consistently outsized in terms of numbers and also out sized in terms of height and weight, throughout the playoffs. Ironically, this team has basically the same coaching staff and nucleus of players that last year's sub-.500 team had.  Yes, Coach Rabb is a vital part of this staff, but so is Coach Smith, Middleton, Knowles, et. al.  The team is winning because this group of players believes in themselves and has the guts, work ethic, and desire to never quit.  Is that a result of the coaches?  Who knows.  But the bottom line is wins baby.  Whether its the head coach, an assistant coach, or the players.  Who cares.  Whether Kelly wins it all or not, this group of young men have gone against tremendous odds to go to a place not many get to venture.
 11.
Gee, what a difference a few weeks make.  There are some of the Kelly faithful that wanted Frank Middleton run out on the next rail.  I guess he did learn something from those years of protecting Brett Favre's rear end!
Actually, I think you mean another WB grad, Earl Dotson.  Middleton played D-line for the Raiders and Bucs.
 12. The powers that be, knew this was the year, if there was going to be one.  Hartsfield initially got the job because he was the right man to pick up with a group of kids whom he had coached in middle school.  No new systems to learn, no need to get aquainted with personnel.  He knew them and they knew him.  They hit the ground running.  Clint has done a great job of delegating to his staff.  Frank Middleton has done an EXCEPTIONAL job with the offensive line.  Barber ran for over 1500 yards before injury.  Guidroz now runs for 100 plus yards per game.  The O-line has opened incredible holes for the backs.  Every game they have played during the playoffs, the O-line is outsized by 2-3 inches and 30-40 pounds.  Yet they open the holes.  Hats off to Middleton and the O-line for the great job they have done all season.  Also to Hartsfield for managing his coaches and his players well.
 13.
How did we score on the winning drive?
Double pass. Darling to Maggert. Maggert to Lighty down to 3. Guidroz took it in from there. Awesome call. Great execution.

 15. Kelly drive ends with fumble .  Wait plsno fumbled back. Lucas cook recovers. TD Kelly. 21-16. Going for 2. 6 minutes left in game.
