1. It seems like there are more home runs this year than in years past.  I guess that list will look a lot shorter next year with BBCOR bats in play.
2. Would love to see these two teams play later in the season.  Warner and Jenkins pitched very well.  Both will go to next level for sure. Both teams had a number of throwing errors.  Steinhagen continued his hitting streak with his 3rd homer of the season.  Lance Brown pitched well to close it out for Silsbee.  Also had a key double to drive in 2 runs.
3. Steinhagen(Kelly) hit his 3rd home run today against Silsbee
4.
Sure look forward to seeing the Tigers actually get challenged because they have a very talented team. No disrespect to Buna, Chester, Woodville, Hardin, and Kountze but that's not exactly the kind of schedule that will prepare them for an always tough district race. Gonna be fun when that stable of good pitching gets to show what they can really do in the very near future. Looking forward to seeing some great pitchers duels.
Silsbee is a good team.  Make no mistake about it.  They will be tested soon.  Kelly will throw either Warner or Steinhagen and Lumberton has Bell, Townsend, Stanley and a host of others.  Would love to see Jenkins or Scoggins vs. Warner in the Kelly game.  Then either Brown or Jenkins vs. Bell or Townsend in the Lumberton game.  Good baseball there. Going out on a limb here, but I see Silsbee vs. Bridge City for 21-3A title.
5.
Kelly is good, Ozen is playing good ball also.
Kelly is very young.  Whole starting infield is Juniors/Sophmores.  Just not too deep in pitching at this point.  Need some younger players to come up big on the mound.  Bumstead (senior) looks very sharp on the mound, as does Warner. Ozen is a good team.  Coach Thomas is getting the most out of players, as usual.  I have watched coach Thomas a number of games this year.  He is a good teacher of the game.  His players seem to buy into his system as well.  Look for them to surprise a few teams in district play.
6. Kelly wins 9-4. Darling, Blanchard, and Bumstead pitched for Kelly.
7. Dane Steinhagen hit one today against Ozen.  For Kelly, Warner has 3 on the year, Steinhagen has 2.
8. Kelly lost to Barbers Hill 18-9, then beat West Orange 14-8. As you can see, early season tournaments can put a strain on your pitching staff.  Kelly has been stretched thin, so far.
9.
Final Dayton - 7 Kelly - 10
Preston Warner hit 2 home runs (a solo shot and a 2-run homer).  Will Darling pitched a good 5 innings for Kelly.  Adam Morrow and Thomas Falgout closed it out.  It was a wet track, but both teams hit the ball well.  Kelly had a good, 4 -run,  6th inning which was the deciding factor.
10. A bit of a sloppy game.  But it was the first game of the year for both.  A few passed balls, errors, mental mistakes on both sides(mostly Kelly), but overall, turned into an exciting game.  LCM's starter, Kody Smith, was very impressive the first three innings he pitched.  He was relieved beginning the fourth.  Look for good things from Kody this season.  Kelly's Ryan Bumstead gave up 2 unearned runs in 5 complete innings, and was very impressive as well.  Dane Steinhagen hit his first high school home run to put Kelly up 5-2 after 5 innings.  But LCM worked its way to the lead in the 6th inning with 4 runs in the bottom of 6th, to go up 6-5.  Kelly tied it in the 7th, as Kody Smith came back into the game to try to close it out.  LCM won it in the bottom of the 7th with a bases loaded hit batter, bringing the winning run in.  Look for good things out of both teams.  Kelly is very young.  Had only two seniors in last night's starting lineup (one was starting pitcher).  LCM has good depth, with solid leadership.
11. Sadly, the most effective pitch in baseball is the change up.  Yet most kids and parents don't realize it.  No curve balls/sliders folks, place the fast ball learn the change. The out-pitch for Pedro Martinez, Halliday, Johan Santana, etc., is the change up not the curve ball/slider.  Learn the change forget the curve/slider.
12. Congratulations to Orangefield's Quinton Evans for his recent commitment to play baseball next season at Blinn JC.  One of the truly great young men of SE Texas, Quinton is one of the hardest workers and best leaders I have ever met. Coach McIntyre, you have one of our area's finest.  Q, this is just the first step towards realizing your dream of playing for the Aggies.  Keep working hard.  Good things will come to you.
13. Actually, Kyle was recruited based his performance at a Texas State University Baseball prospect camp, in January.  I spoke with Coach Haynie prior to Kyle committing.  He said Texas State was interested in Kyle, but they have 3 catchers already.  Coach Haynie previously coached at TSU and Kyle was given a solid recommendation from Texas State coaches.  Coaches Solis and Haynie are committed to making their program a championship caliber program.  Just wait, you will see more elite players from this area headed that way. Bottom line..even though it costs money, it pays to go to these college prospect camps.  I used to think these were money makers for the coach.  But I am now sold.  In addition to Kyle, we have two juniors in our organization who went to a Stephen F Austin prospect camp and have garnered solid interest from the coaches at that school (one got a scholarship offer immediately following the camp).  We have a sophomore who went to a prospect camp on the West coast and has a major (top 10) college interested in him.  Again, these prospect camps work. I have had the pleasure of watching Kyle the past two summers.  He is an incredible young man and a very good baseball player.  Kyle earned this opportunity all on his own.  While Kyle is the 8th to commit from last summer's Gladiator teams, we didn't get him the scholarship.  No one gets the scholarship but the player.  Ego, I don't think Chris was taking credit for getting Kyle a scholarship either.  While the organization or a coach may provide an opportunity to be seen, ultimately it is the hours of training, the gallons of sweat, and the time spent in the cages that earns the scholarship.  Kyle lived at the SETX Baseball Academy and left his gallons of sweat at Sam Moore's academy.  Hats off to you Kyle.  You are a model to be looked up to. Ego - Let me address your slamming of Fackler.  Chris coached with us last summer.  I know what kind of a man he is.  And believe me, he is all about the kids.  Yes, he uses this board to advertise his services and camps, but his business is baseball.  He is being an astute business man by advertising his services.  No different than a guy opening a new facility or sporting goods store does on here.  He prepares kids for the next level, both on the field and off the field.  Is he the only one in town that does that?  No. There are many local people and organizations that prepare kids for the next level.  But Chris is among the best in the business of baseball. 16. In light of the community mourning regarding Reggie Garrett's tragic death, we challenge local businesses to make a contribution to the Reggie Garrett, Jr. Scholarship Fund.  There are a number of local businesses selling merchandise (either stickers, banners, or T-shirts) that relates to the Garrett tragedy.  We challenge all businesses to either donate merchandise (i.e don't charge for stickers) or if you do charge, donate a portion, if not all the proceeds to the Reggie Garrett, Jr. Scholarship Fund established by Tony Dallas.  PM Tony to make a contribution (he is "td" on this sight) or call Tony at 409-882-1943 to see where to send your check.   Yes, times are very tight.  A lot of us local businesses are hurting.  But now is the time to come together and help the community. Every good deed does not go unnoticed.   Civic groups, here is your shout out.  School clubs, non-school clubs, here is a chance to REALLY help your community by showing your support.  Have a car wash, link sale, barbecue, whatever.  Donate all or a portion of your sales to this scholarship fund. Please, let's help preserve the lasting legacy of #12 through this scholarship fund.  Every donation helps!
17. 18.
Has Nederland spoken for any of those stickers?
I read on another post they plan to have #12 stickers on their helmets.  But I am not definite on those plans.  If you find out otherwise, let me know.  I will donate them to the team.
19.
Anyone had any luck with finding a place that is making memorial T-Shirts?
Signature Signs and Printing is making white (and some grey) t-shirts with front of shirt having the flying WOS logo/12/Reggie Garrett (just like my avatar).  Only difference is the WOS is navy and the #12 is white "Reggie Garrett" name is navy.  On the back it says 112% in navy.  Cost is $10.  Donating all proceeds to the scholarship fund established by Tony Dallas.  Call 409-842-9900 if you want one.  Store is at 250 Dowlen Road (across from World Gym).  Hours 9AM-5:30pm M-F.  Only 250 available.  Prefer checks only.  Checks payable to the Reggie Garrett, Jr. Scholarship Fund.  Reason we prefer checks made payable to fund is we are doing this as a service to the community and the scholarship fund.  Do not want to run through our store finances.  Want simply plan to forward all money to the scholarship fund.

23. Starting in 2011-2012, high school players will have to conform to the new NFHS rules set forth regarding composite and aluminum bats.  See www.nfhs.org In summary, the composite and aluminum bats have to meet the standards of Batted Ball of Coefficient Restitution (BBCOR), which is the current approval of the NCAA.  All such bats must be labeled with such approval.  There is much more info on the NFHS web site.  Check it out. According to NFHS web site, the only composite bats that meet these certifications for 2010-2011 season, are DeMarini Vendetta and CF4.  All other composite bats will not be allowed.  I am sure more approvals will be forth coming.  But the bat must be labeled as such.  So looks like time to go bat shopping.
24. SE Texas Gladiator Baseball program is looking to expand its 2011 graduate baseball program.  We are looking for current senior (2011 graduates) players who are interested in trying out for our Fall/Summer baseball program.  This program consists of games, weekend tournaments, training, and college showcases.  We have a few showcases scheduled for the fall already.  For the summer, we will participate in the Southern College Prep League, as well as some college showcases.  This league will consist of 8-10 teams from Louisiana and Texas, whose main purpose is to prepare players for the next level.  College exposure will be the main focus of this fall and summer program. If interested, call me at 409-658-9279, PM me, or e-mail at [email protected]. Thanks, Dave Morrow SE Texas Gladiators
