1. Texas Gladiators High School program is taking indications of interest for their summer 18U and 16U teams.  The 18U team is mostly set.  Could use a few more players.  The 16U team is open to freshmen and sophomores who are interested in playing at a higher level of competition than normal league ball.  We will hold tryouts within the next two weeks. Tournaments will be weekend showcase style tournaments at college venues across Louisiana and Texas. June and July only. The focus of both teams is to prepare players for the next level of baseball.  If interested in either team, send an e-mail to Dave Morrow at [email protected].  Also, check out our website at www.gladiatorbaseball.org.
2.
With SE Tx so obsorbed with select baseball, Id like to offer 2 area teams the use of our field for practices and use for games. I will personally take care of the field work and supply water coolers in dugouts, the cages are accessible also. All team requirments are as follows: **Must have a $1,000,000 insurance TEAM policy - I cannot get around this one requirement sorry. **A fee of $150per month for usage goes directly into our LCA Booster Club - allows for 5 practices a month. **Any games on the field cost $40per game, which I will personally fix the field in playing shape, tamp mounds home plate and have field mowed and in solid playing conditions. "Tournament Games" per game fees are less - 1 flat fee **As head coach, have the right to cancel any games due to weather conditions and possible "damage" to playing surface due to rains. Open to 13u - 18u teams. Those looking for another venue to host any tournament games, or use our field in connection to any tournaments hosted at Westbrook or Lamar, can contact me so we can devise a format for any Thurs-Fri-Sat-Sundays for tournament use on the field. We will begin doing several projects on the field, resurfacing infield, new dugouts, new scoreboard, lights, and adding more cages, but none of this will effect anyone playing games, for we will halt any field projects around scheduled games, to allow the kids the opportunity to play baseball at Legacy Field. Thank you for considering us in advance, Chris Fackler - Chris.Fackler @ GMail.Com
Brilliant!!!
3. Kelly. Had 10 returning letterman, a solid transfer/starting pitcher from Legacy and arguably one of the 3 best pitchers in the area.  Finished with just 3 district wins and missed playoffs. Big disappointment.
4.
You guys are ridiculous! Who gives a **** who is a "better" Director, who puts on a "better" Tournament, these are things that are simply other individuals opinions, not "facts". Tournaments have an incredible amount of variables that go into weather it's a "good tournament" or not. All I know is that I have 2 boys that play in different age groups and both for the Gladiators, and due to a "pissing contest" (IMO) neither will be allowed to play in several tournaments their coaches had scheduled, nor be able to play at some great ballparks. I do plan on calling the USSSA Director, and maybe he can explain to my Kids, or the roughly 80 others that are now in the same boat. It's really pathetic and so are these posts, can't you guys find something productive to discuss.
Agreed.  These posts are ridiculous.  Hopefully yours puts a stop to this insanity.
5. Rather than make personal accusations on two men and their businesses, can't this thread be used as offering constructive criticism as to how things can improve?  By the way, I believe Roaddogs post was objective.  Could it not be implied that Mr. Tillery as a CFO with a long-term family business would be more experienced at running a business of hosting tournaments?  Nobody made an inference to Morgan's baseball experience making him more qualified to run a business.  Its all in the spin you put on it. Both men are very qualified to run their respective businesses. Maybe someone could contact these people directly and offer ideas on how to improve the tournament experience for all, as opposed to dragging Nations and USSSA and their local representatives through the mud on a public web site.  As I said before, select is a business for many people.  As is the case with any business, if you don't like the product, don't use it!  It is up to the tournament manager to adapt and make changes or go broke. By the way, if you think this is bad, wait until you go to high school age tournaments.  You will find tournaments that bill themselves at being held at a certain college.  Then once you get the schedule on Wednesday before the tournament begins, you have one game at the college field and the other 3 are 30-40 miles away, at a high school.  Remember, you are the customer and where you spend your dollar will get the attention of the people you are detesting on this web site.  This thread is way overdue for locking, moderator.
6.
This thread should be renamed! Morgan Walker vs USSSA, cause thats just what it is! its not the GLADIATORS, because the coaches and parents arent to blame for what he does.
True.  I run the older Gladiator teams and we have nothing to do with either Nations nor USSSA.  It is not a Gladiator issue.  Rather it is a Nations vs. USSSA problem.  Correct me if I am wrong, but each organization has State and National Directors.  Have a problem, call them. Like it or not, select baseball is BIG business.  In the spirit of capitalism, if you don't like a tournament organizer and how they provide the customer experience to your teams, don't play there.  If enough teams take their business elsewhere, the local organizers will have to either change or go broke.  Arguing back and forth on this board is solving nothing.
7.
Actually, I don't think it was done correctly.  it was my understanding that the umpire must give a "team warning" after a player is discovered participating in the game while wearing jewelry.  After the team warning, a player can be ejected.  We might need to "ask the ump", but from what I have heard, there was no official "team warning" after a player was discovered wearing jewelry while participating in the game.  It is my understanding that these rules don't apply to roster members on the bench.
Actually, there was a team warning by the home plate umpire in the 1st inning.  Both teams were warned.  The ejected player was on base and most likely did not hear the warning.  But the letter of the law was enforced. The real story should be Dane Steinhagen had a great game for the Bulldogs, with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.  He also came in and took control of the game on the mound, as Orangefield was mounting a come back.  Preston Warner made his debut back on the field, following a three week absence due to his scary shot off his head against Nederland.  Great to see him back and enjoying the game again.  Congrats Preston!! Orangefield had a gutsy comeback, after being down 7-0.  This group of players from Orangefield worked hard in the 4th and 5th innings to get back within striking range.  Orangefield has a good group of hard working players.  They too should be commended.  The hour long delay may have cut into their momentum.  Who knows.  But the Bobcats had a great showing for their school. In hindsight, many can share in the blame for the way the game delay played out: Players, coaches, parents, and umpires. Many people could have handled things differently.  Time to focus on the players and their accomplishments on the field.  Hats off to both teams for enduring the challenges faced on Saturday.
8.
If this one guy is so bad, then why does he continue to call games? Why do teams still allow him to umpire their games? With this kind of rep (if it is that bad) shouldn't he be on everyone's scratch list?
I asked George that question. He said that he never really knew the guy or his rep. With 110 umpires to schedule, he doesn't know all of them. Good thing George was there. Now he knows.
9. Felt bad for kids. Parents were not unruly on either side. SimPly an ump exercising his "authority".
10. Started with Warner and talbot getting ejected for swearing. Not at umps or loud enough for stands to hear. Frustration swearing out of poor self performance. This was Warner's first game back post concussion. Umps made him clear the premises. The trainer pleaded with umps to allow Warner to stay because he is under concussion monitoring via a protocol. If trainer is forced to follow Warner off premises then he will not be there for future injuries. Catch 22 for trainer. Delayed game for major discussion and pleading by trainer. Then a parent gets on ump to get on with the game. Umpire warns patent ( not one of kids ejected parents). Umpire then warns parent he faces ejection. Parent tells ump to come over here and eject him. Then tells ump he will kick his a$$. Ump them wants police called to press charges. Parent is long gone from park as coach handles that situation. Game is delayed while cops take paper work from ump. Luckily George Coit is there to finish the game doing bases with a bad hip. The ump in question is the same one who punched a coach at ford park tourney last year. Bad deal. It was all about the ump. He challenged everyone to the point of escalation. Sad day for the kids.
11. Kelly won 9-3. Dane Steinhagen hit 2 home runs with 5 RBI. Game halted over an hour due to umpire issues. Biggest fiasco I have ever seen. All on the umpires.
12. Steinhagen did not pitch for Kelly. Will Darling started Michael Hayes relieved. Anyone know how many strikeouts Brett Brown had?  I am guessing at least 10. he was nasty tonight.
13. Kelly-Nederland varsity is Wednesday 4:30 at Nederland
14. I have seen WOS, Bridge City, Orangefield and HF.  Bridge city is strongest.  I know Silsbee and put them at a close #2. Between HJ and HF for last spot.
15. Come on. Dice K consistently had weak arm and ended up with Tommy John surgery. A high schooler throwing that many pitches asks for trouble later in his career, if not this year.
16. Spoke with Preston's father.  He said Preston has been released from ICU and there is an outside chance he may go home today.  He is still on the road to recovery.  With severe concussions, every day brings new challenges.  Preston is ready to move forward and is hopeful to get back on the diamond soon. His parents wanted to express to everyone how humbled and appreciative they are for the enormous outpouring of care, concern, and prayers everyone has communicated to them directly or through school officials.  They are touched by the kindness and generosity of the people in SE Texas.  They can never thank everyone enough.
17. Spoke with Preston's Dad.  The 9AM CAT scan revealed no further deterioration in his condition.  Which is being viewed as a positive.  Evidently, the first 12 hours are critical in a concussion patient.  Hopefully that means he has turned the corner.  Will remain in ICU for at least another day or two for observation.  For those of you relaying messages through Kelly High School, especially those Nederland coaches, parents, and players, be aware that these messages ARE getting passed on to the family.  The family is most appreciative of the outpouring of support for Preston.  Preston's dad loves this web site.  So keep the prayers and thoughts coming.  They are getting through to the family.
18.

Saw a number of players on both Nederland and Kelly using El Gato Cinco tonight.  Umpires and coaches are going to have to enforce new rules.  Never understood why a white bat is legal, but white sleeves on a pitcher is not.  Tough for fielders and pitcher to see ball off bat.
I noticed that too, but it is difficult to tell the size from the stands.  If this ban just came out today, it may take a few days for all of the umps to get the memo.  Also if this is a UIL and NCAA ban, does it apply to Kelly?
Yes, it does apply to Kelly.  It is actually a NFHS rule, not a UIL rule.
19. Both teams looked good, for first game out. Nederland will be very tough this Year.  Pitching always takes time to sharpen up.  Brown looked good, with fastball hitting 90 and curveball is a great out pitch.  Very impressed with Stampley on the mound as well. Nederland will improve from this game. Kelly bounced back well after going down by 3. Look for good year from both teams. Thank God baseball is back!
