Hi setx sports forum family & friends hope all is well with you & your family. I come asking prayers for myself & on behalf of my family. We are all closed knit in Coldspring.
Lately i have been going through some much in my life. I don’t really disclose this too many people but I am a RN.
I have lost 5 family/friends in six weeks. I had to leave a toxic job. Thirdly, i recently lost the love of my life, would do almost anything if the big man up above would allow him to come back him to come back. . Sometimes we allow our emotions & feelings, opinions to ruin a friendship/relationship.
I got side swiped in The Woodlands on my way to an appointment. I am very blessed 😇 with only a slightly sore necks. Vehicles are replaceable but human life cannot.
i am only asking for prayers for me & my family. Thanks TrojanMoJo 🥰🥰🥰🫶🏽🏈🏈❤️🖤🤍❤️🖤🤍. 💜💜🤍🤍

Here we go again! It's Bandtober and the return of the annual UIL Region 10 Marching Band Contest!

The contest will be held Saturday October 14, 2023 at Port Neches-Groves HS Stadium. The schedule shows 29 bands competing to earn that coveted Division 1 rating and the chance to move on to state competition.

Admission is $5 to get in.

I still plan to attend and record all the bands. If y'all want, come say hi to me as I battle the weather elements and try to get the best video/audio recordings of our local high school bands.

Once I get back home, I will start to edit the video and audio, then post onto my YouTube. The day looks to be pleasant with a cool front passing the day before so hopefully I will not be a sweaty mess at the end of the contest.

I believe this is the first official year since 1990 (not counting the post-COVID time), that ALL classifications will advance past region to area/state competition.
Keep in mind that we have separate open class (contemporary-style) and military class tracks for state marching band contest.

    Some of my thoughts:
    - One school missing from last year (2022) includes Newton.
    - Lamar University will be performing twice for exhibition.
    - Beaumont United and West Brook High Schools are competing back as Varsity Bands, so they will be able to advance to the Area round.
    - Currently we have 3-2A, 9-3A, 12-4A, 3-5A, 2-6A bands participating.

Best wishes to all participating bands as they finish learning their music/drill and polishing up their shows in the next week.

Good day everyone, I am not sure if this is allowed or not. If not, please take this post down.

I have been trying my best to create an archive for our UIL Region 10 high school marching bands.

That was the original intent when I created my YouTube channel 16 years ago.

I had found many old VHS tapes over the last 10 years that helped to broaden and deepen the channel with all sorts of high school marching bands throughout the state including our home Region 10.

Just last month, I discovered another huge cache of old Region 10 marching band contest performances going as far back as 1976. For some people that marched that contest, that was infamously known as the "Mud Bowl" with the awful field conditions.

I have posted that full 1976 contest that includes all bands from the middle school/junior highs all the way up to the largest 4A classification of that time period. Currently, I am slowly posting all bands from the 1977 contest.

I have digitized the VHS tapes for the 1978, 1979 contests and am currently digitizing the 1980 contest.

As I am working through the different years, I find it fascinating to see all these different high schools that no longer exist due to consolidation (Beaumont Hebert, South Park, Forest Park, French, Port Arthur Jefferson, Port Arthur Austin, Port Arthur Lincoln) or no longer have band programs (High Island, Chester). Also, the quality of the middle school/junior high bands that march in the contests look and sound like high school bands.

During this time frame, I am seeing lots of schools switch from military style to a military-corps hybrid or going straight into DCI corps-style. This is really evident going from 1979 to 1980. In 1976 all but two high schools (West Hardin and Kountze) were military-style with some of the largest schools having a sort of mili-corps hybrid type show (Port Arthur Jefferson, Forest Park).

Please take a look at these historical recordings and I am forever grateful to the band directors that took the initiative to document and save these recordings from years ago.

J-Mike reacted to rocketfan86 in 2022 UIL Region 10 Marching Band Contest Thread!
It's hard to believe that a full year has passed since last year's contest but here we are again!

The UIL Region 10 Marching Band Contest will be held Saturday October 15, 2022 at Port Neches-Groves HS Stadium. The schedule released today shows 30 bands competing to earn that coveted Division 1 rating and the chance to move on to state competition.

Admission is $5 to get in.

I do plan to attend and record all the bands as my brother and I have diligently tried since 2006. If y'all want, come say hi to me as I battle the weather elements and try to get the best video/audio recordings of our local high school bands.

Now that things are getting back to some sort of normalcy, advancement past region to area/state competition will be for class 2A, 4A, and 6A schools only. Keep in mind that we have separate open class (contemporary-style) and military class tracks for state marching band contest.

    Some of my thoughts:
    - With the recent UIL alignment for 2022-2024, a few schools have shifted classifications compared to last year: Corrigan-Camden 2A from 3A, Orangefield 3A from 4A, Beaumont United 6A from 5A.
    - Some schools missing from last year (2021) include Port Arthur Memorial. Hudson (outside Lufkin) has not participated since 2018.
    - Woodville returns to marching contest after a 3-year absence
    - Again this year, Beaumont United and West Brook High Schools are competing as Non-Varsity Bands; they will not be able to advance to area or state even if they earn a Division 1 rating. From my understanding "newer" schools like Beaumont United usually start out as non-varsity for music programs. I am not sure with West Brook the process to request Non-Varsity status.

    Per the UIL Handbook:
Varsity Waiver. At the option of the music director and local school administration and with the approval of the UIL State Director of Music, music organizations representing new music programs, and music organizations committed to the process of establishing a viable music program may enter as non-varsity in the conference to which they are assigned until such time that the organization earns a Division I rating in concert performance.
Pending request from local school administration and with the approval of the UIL State Director of Music the requirement to return to varsity status may be waived until such time that local school administration requests varsity status.

    - With all the classification changes, only three 5A bands are left in our region, As it stands, we have 3-2A, 10-3A, 12-4A, 3-5A, 2-6A bands participating.

Best wishes to all participating bands as they finish learning their music/drill and polishing up their shows in the next 2 weeks.
