Central only went to state tourney in 99. Never went back to back.
You are showing your lack of local high school basketball knowledge.

More embarrassed than bitter. My school district hasn't always been the best athletically, but it's always been a good school district that did things right and we always put academics first. There has always been talent at HF, but we've missed on coaching hires basically since Jeff Keener. This latest hire is a miss too. Those transfers haven't always lived in HF and the new ones won't either and everyone knows it. I'd rather lose with our kids and coaches who do it right than openly break the rules and then brag about how great they are. Nobody is buying it. I'm old enough to know that winning isn't everything.
It's not bravery to point out something is wrong. For what it's worth I've made my opinion known to the principal, AD, and superintendent at HF so I'm not hiding behind an anonymous message board.

Central Heights has a way of controlling tempo.
Coldspring wins this one but not more than 20.

One last comment and I’m done with this topic. Yates is a school with rich tradition that has always been a basketball dynasty. This I know. They would probably still be a good team even without the transfers but idk if they would still be state contenders. Maybe so. But I don’t think anyone in their right mind would truly believe 5 6’8 seniors decided to transfer to Yates the same year by coincidence. Those type of things just don’t normally happen. But even if that is the case I still don’t think it’s fair for rural area 4A schools to have to compete against schools like Yates. Yea they might only have 8 or 900 kids at their school currently but you never know what type of athletes or how many athletes are gonna pop up at the school the next year by “coincidence”. If that’s the case and the UIL is going to continue to let that happen they should take that into consideration when classifying them. You can’t classify them as 4A because of their enrollment when there’s at least another 5 or 10 thousand kids living within the school district but not currently enrolled at Yates of whom the best athletes in that group might just decide to transfer to Yates. That’s just not fair. Yates player pool is just way too big regardless of their school enrollment

If it’s a legit transfer (meaning no recruitment was involved) it’s fine with me. I have no reason to favor any one of these programs over the other. I support all SETX programs. I’m just giving my opinion from the outside looking in. I have no clue who’s actually recruiting who’s not but certain things look more suspicious than others. Transfers happen all the time. Kids go to different programs for different reasons. Not every time do these reasons involve recruiting. In fact I believe my hometown, Woodville lost a good 2 sport athlete to Silsbee a couple years back. We don’t get a whole lot of great athletes in Woodville so that hurt us I think. But I don’t think any recruiting was involved. I believe he had family ties in Silsbee or may have lived there before at one point and it didn’t hurt that Silsbee has a great athletic program which I think had something to do with him and his family’s decision also. I think that transfer hurt Woodville a lot more than it helped Silsbee which is the killer part lol. But I don’t think there was any recruiting involved. I think that was a decision he and his family made on their own. Now those type of things happen all the time but when 4 or 5 good athletes transfer to a program at one time with no ties to the community that raises eyebrows. If you can prove a coach is recruiting players on a small or large scale than I am all the way with you but if your just going to throw allegations out there because a program has had a transfer or 2 over the years sounds like your reaching

I most certainly did not say there were no other options in that area.. what I said was that any high school student living within the boundaries of Yates’ attendance zone HAS to be provided an education by Jack Yates high school. And.. any student living there is legally eligible to play varsity athletics for Yates high school. There is nothing anyone can do about it. Just like any student living within the Hardin Jefferson attendance zone. The students living outside of the Yates attendance zone still live in a school’s attendance zone.. there aren’t any empty spaces.
Yes.. it’s highly suspect that these kids happen to have moved into this attendance zone. One can speculate that their coach is recruiting or maybe the school itself is recruiting via namesake. Unfortunately, not UIL, you, nor anyone else can control where the legal guardian of a high school student decides to live.
If I was from out of state and got a job at one of the refineries in SeTx, do you think where I decided to live would reflect where I’d rather my kids go to school?

please name the school who has a good basketball program with less than one "murderer" Your contention of "aau pipeline" is totally disproven with these numbers.

Washington is a good team. They press a lot and have a bunch of 3 point shooters. Some of y’all have to stop looking at records to see how good teams really are. This game will come down to who is able to play their style better. Fast pace vs methodical. Should be a real good one

Not if they "move" into the school's attendance zone/district. In that case they only have to sit 15 days. That's why bigger cities have a monopoly on this.. because it's so simple to change your permanent address via apartment complex.

Exactly.
Doakes really had no chance of becoming eligible but the folk at Yates kept telling him otherwise. Kid ended up losing his senior year.

Last few paragraphs from Beaumont Enterprise article on tonight's game. Thought this was good:
Jaystan Davis was proud to represent Hardin-Jefferson and be coached by his father.
“It was special moment for sure,” Jaystan Davis said. “It’s been a good three years playing for him and we have had had our ups and downs, struggles and success. I have become so much mentally stronger as a player and being a coach’s kid. I have learned how to work well with others and be a great teammate. I’ll take that with me when I graduate and enter the real world.”
While Clay Davis was hugging his son, he exchanged words with a Yates fan in the crowd where he became emotional and told the crowd that he was hugging his son.
Hardin-Jefferson never led in the game. Yates’ up-tempo offense and press defense cause problems for the Hawks.
Austin Samaya led the Hawks with 20 points.
Preparing for the No. 1 team in Class 4A can be challenging.
“Probably have to go recruit some players,” said Clay Davis on preparing for Yates. “Unfortunately, the system is a little broken right now. There is holes in the system and they choose to take advantage of them. It is what it is, and it’s hard to prepare for. We will take the kids we have in our system that come up in our system. I wouldn’t trade any of our kids for anyone else.”
The Lions scored 100 points in their 20th straight game. Yates senior guard Rubin Jones knocked down the 3-pointer with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter that lifted the team over the 100-point mark as the crowd from Yates cheered on the Lions.
As the season comes to an end for the Hawks, its five seniors made a name for themselves within the program.
“The legacy that they will leave is that they represented Hardin-Jefferson basketball the way it should be represented. I’m so proud,” Clay Davis said. “Those are our kids, Hardin-Jefferson kids from Day 1. We don’t go out and recruit our players. The kids that we put on the floor are Hardin-Jefferson kids from our program.”
I think Coach Davis says it all. Kudos to him and his team.
