That might just mean Cleveland ISD hasn't done a great job of adding coaches (maybe bilingual) who can build rapport with the youngsters and get them engaged in athletics at a younger age. I can understand struggling in the beginning but after years of being 6A and still struggling to beat 3A teams that falls on the school board and the coaches in my opinion. Seems maybe it just isn't a big enough priority to them or else they'd figure how to get a decent roster out of thousands of kids by now

Woodville has had to replace a lot of great defensive players every other year. Due to that we've had some defenses not as good as others but none have ever been this bad. There's only a couple guys within the program this year that are accustomed to giving up 70 and none of them are players.

Yea, you have to actually tackle those Newton backs. Can't just bump em and they magically fall to the ground. First and maybe the last time we face backs that run that hard this year. Meanwhile our main back didn't hardly get any touches at all

Kountze is looking legit. That could possibly be a good game. I expect the remaining district games to probably be a little more competitive than the first two.

Troup would also be a bad matchup for Woodville. I just didn't mention them because I already knew they would be on the other side of the bracket with yall. I thought we would meet GS second round but with their loss to EW it looks like it'll be EW now. I think we might be OK against DF or Hooks if we meet them in the 3rd. Yalls side is tuff but yall can handle it 🤣

Strange to say but the way the bracket is set up your actually right. It "could" happen although it's not guaranteed. The only other team in the region I would consider to be a bad matchup for Woodville is Grand Saline and I think they'll be on the other side of the bracket now due to their recent loss to Edgewood. If Woodville can manage to hold on to the #2 seed they'll get some winnable matchups they'll have a chance to win in likely shootouts the first 3 rounds. If we win those 3 I expect to meet Newton in round 4.

I think we're still really close to the line between D1 and D2. If I had to guess I'd say we're going back to D1 next year

Lost a few good coaches

Every state finalist team loses kids to graduation. That's no excuse for giving up 72. That's ridiculous

We lose kids to graduation every year.

He has a couple years before he has to face that but Im sure he'll be just fine with a SEC line to protect him.

You say that jokingly like that's not what a good coach is supposed to do. Might not have changed the outcome but I'm guessing it would have been a little more respectable. I don't know if we've ever given up 72 to anybody. Beyond embarrassing. I'm speechless really

7th to 8th grade is different from middle school to varsity. And no, one good class doesn't always translate to later success on varsity but multiple good classes normally does if the coaching is legit

I hear all Woodville's sub varsity teams except 7th grade got slaughtered. I think 8th grade beat Newton last year as 7th graders in a shutout if I'm not mistaking but lost bad giving up 50 this year. Future not looking good under this new coaching staff so far

Nothing this defense has done so far has convinced me they can hold Newton to 35. Scoring 42 on offense against a defense that has only allowed one 4A team to score over 20 will be tough also but we'll see

Good play calling and decent blocking from the OLine might allow us to score and keep it competitive. OLine got a hard task at hand though. Newton probably has the best front 7 in 3AD2 region 3. On defense our best bet is to hope they feel like gambling and airing it out a little. Hopefully our secondary don't get caught slipping if they do

I don't know what they know. All I know is they're not putting out the best group they could put out on defense. If a kid is playing less snaps then the other players at his position and opponents seem to make a conscious effort to not go his direction yet he still has the most tackles at his position up until the most recent game I think that might signify that kid should probably start at his position.

Think that's probably the kid he was raving about last year. I think he's supposed to turn out to be really good. Either way it probably doesn't matter much as he'll probably just be handing off to #3. I'd like to see him put it in the air though 😆

I don't know how you come up with your claim about me being right about nothing but I definitely wouldn't mind not being right about this game. Fact is most who know about these 2 teams had Newton as the favorite from the beginning and with the defense not being up to par this year (partially cause the coaching staff is not playing the best players) that makes our chances of winning this game even slimmer. You have a lot riding on me being wrong cause other wise you have never sided with Woodville about anything.
