Coldspring hires Cody Day as new head coach
Setx fan replied to TrojanWarrior08's topic in High School Football
Think he did a good job at Colmesneil if I'm not mistaking -
Newton's loaded. It'll be tough to beat them regardless of who's coaching
-
Didn't really have anybody in particular in mind because I didn't know who was available. Was hoping the people in charge could skim through the list and select a legit candidate. Was made to believe Neece from Anahuac may or may not have been available. I probably would rather have Neece over Clawson but we have what we have now and I'll just hope for the best. Hopefully I'm wrong

I noticed that. He had 2 winning seasons durring his 4 year stay. Could be a good sign or it could be him landing there at the right time. Also noticed they gave up 30 plus 7 times last year. 60 plus 4 times. We may have given up 30 plus 7 or 8 times the last 4 or 5 years. Can't remember the last time we gave up 60 and don't want to start that now. That being said I think it would probably be best to leave that DC where he found him. I've looked at some clips from Elgin's offense last year and liked some of the things I saw. I think we could have some success if we could manage to get a good DC
-
Aye, may be better to be a ball boy also in that case
-
Not downing him, just being honest. Doesn't look like a great hire based on what I can see so far. He's 26-51 as a head coach. Has 2 rings as an assistant at Aledo but you can only give him so much credit for winning a ring a an assistant. I'd give him more credit for that if he was at least a coordinator. Did seem to show a little improvement as a HC after his couple years at Aledo but there's not enough proof for me to be sure of that. He had winning seasons 2 of 4 years at Elgin. Don't know how much of that was due to coaching or just talent coming and going at Elgin. We'll see how it goes. I'm definitely hoping for the best though
-
He was one of 20 assistants at Aledo
-
Understood but I'm hoping this time is the exception at least for now. Just not real comfortable with a 26-51 guy coming in not knowing much about our kids and completely doing his own thing without someone who's been here a while to help him along. And him being an offensive guy makes it even more important that we get a really good DC
-
That's great if he does but we need a solid DC also since our DC went to Lufkin I believe. We have a OC who knows our kids. Don't want to lose all the people who allready have relationships and a good guage on our kids abilities
-
Yea, and it was a questionable decision
-
Which brings us back to my original question
-
Final decision came down to the school board I believe but I hear they let the firm do most of the work
-
I'd be interested in knowing what kind of hires this firm has gotten for other programs in the past. Is the firm known to get good hires or were the school leaders being lazy and willing to let anybody handle it long as it didn't have to be them?
-
Same thoughts here. 7 years experience as head coach. Three years at Louise and 4 at Elgin. Very unimpressive 26-51 record. Did seem to be a little improvement at Elgin after going 0-10 his first year there though. Has 2 state championships as an assistant at Aledo. We'll see how it turns out but I probably would have kept it inside if there weren't any better options
-
Hope he brings in a really good DC. Looks like his teams are known to give up hella points
-
I think they're really comfortable in WW. Money might be one factor but there are plenty other advantages to staying in WW as well.
-
That wasn't for you. It was for the groupie who claims nobody in the district will be able to compete for the next 4 years. And that's based on the little brother who will be a freshman next year
-
That's really good for him to be nationally ranked in his class. A lot of kids are ranked in different rankings at one point or another. Still wasn't the best qb in the district that year like you claimed and it still doesn't guarantee nobody will come close to beating Silsbee for the next 4 years. But I understand groupies are really impressed by those type of things 👍
-
I haven't made nothing up. Just haven't had time to pull up all the things you were saying.
-
I've had a good look at hom also and nothing you stated is really wrong. Just go look at Falcons comments on the first page and you'll see what I have a problem with. He made an assumption regarding the next 4 years based on a kid who hasn't played high school ball yet. There's too many respectable programs in the district for that foolishness
-
Doesn't happen all the time but it happens. Just depends on the makeup of the team and the level of competition
-
That probably depends on the level of competition your playing against and how bad your backup is. I remember Tom Brady got injured and a guy I don't even remember stepped in and looked just like Tom Brady.
-
As a guy who pays close attention to 3A football in the area you might not believe me when I tell you this but his freshman year WW would have probably had simular results without him. They returned a lot from a playoff team including a senior qb who was pretty good. They MAY have added one or 2 extra football wins at the most because of Bryant. They lost a lot of guys this past season so the wins were largely because of him but partially because of the D1 RB they went and grabbed from across town also. And you have to take in account there will likely be a step up in competition at Silsbee.
-
QB position is the most important position and can effect the game a lot especially if it's a dual threat QB. But it's still just one guy. And accolades aren't doing anything for you once that whistle blows
-
Football is an 11 man sport. Basketball is a 5 man sport. 1 or 2 guys will make a lot bigger difference in basketball than it will in football. That's why WW won more playoff games in basketball than football with Bryant.
