Well, you can tell that Coach Stewart did not want to do this, but he had to do it ensure his immediate future...in these times no one can blame him for that. I have seen in other thread where his coaching ability was, for lack of a better word, questioned.  Those who have done so should remember that a over .500 winning percentage as a coach prior to coming to Kountze.  And when he sent me the information for the previews, seemed to be intent on building Kountze into a winning program even though he knew that unlike pretty much every other team in the district, football was not the lead sport at his school.  I wish him well at Lumberton.
Lumberton??  What would he be doing in Lumberton??
Im not questioning your numbers cause I belive you have some good sources, but a record of over .500? Im kinda ify on that.  When he left our little school several years ago the Enterprise stated that he had about a .600 at Evadale...uh, no he didnt!!!  If you factor in scrimmages and "Blue and Gold" scrimmages, well, maybe.  If my memory is correct, he may have had a .500 here but the rest were sub .500.

When Haggequist(sp?) was QB Vidor spread it out and threw the ball around. Maybe he has gone to the Slot T because he thinks that is what fits his personnel best with the talent he has had the past few seasons......Haggequist played fairly recently. I agree with bigdog, Matthews is very respected by the coaches in this area and has done a good job at Vidor. Vidor football was pretty dismal before they hired Matthews. They have a lot better program now than they did for decades before he got there. Just my two cents from an outside observer.
Coach Mathews cannot be judged by just the record of the football team. You may judge him by the overall improvement of Vidor Athletics as a whole. We may not be a juggernaut but the between the other sports be it girl's basketball or boy's baseball the programs have improved since Mathews has taken over.
I think Coach Matthews should be judged by the integrity of his program and the behavior/actions of his student athletes. Judging by the few players I have spoken with, they are very respectful young men and speak highly of Coach Matthews. The win-loss record is secondary in my book.
Good post and I agree that Matt is a great guy and good for the kids, but, there are TONS of great coaches out there and they are great for and with the kids they coach.  if Vidor stays with the same staff they will see the same results.  JMO.  They will have to decide if their love for Matthews is greater  than wanting to go to next level...Just saying.
 4. OK, let the hatin begin! IMO Vidor will look much the same as they do every year.  Yes they have some good quality kids coming back and coming up.  They will look decent in the pre-district and give some of the district favorites and big scare.  They will play hard nosed football and may even surprise someone.  But when its all over they will be a couple games from where they wanted to be.  Believe me when I say I'm pullin for Vidor and they are my 2nd favorite team in the area, but it will take some big changes for them to play to their full potental.  Vidor will someday have to decide if they want to go the next level or not...again, JMO. Still pulling for the Bucs!
 5. Yall dont worry bout 55 too much!  Hes been single minded and has been stuck in the great past for years now.  MANY have tried to bring him up-to-date but he will readily show you the years that HD went undefeated, their won loss record against Hardin, their history of dominating Weat Hardin and on and on...it's just the way it is!!! ANYWAY, to the subject, I agree with some that Evadale will be down a little this year, and for last 3 years they have reloaded and not rebuilt.  They will be rebuilding this year and I believe Williams will get the kids out again, and as always, thats half the battle.
 6.
It is a three game series. Who has the pitching is always key in 1A playoff series.
Agree, but it's also the key in any classification!
 7. Don Price ??  Dont guess I'm a hater!  :-\
 8. Yeah, some of that was worse after the 2nd and 3rd re-read.  HAHA  Good work Rebs but maybe give the 5th + pitchers more work at practice.
 9. Good thing it's in Evadale, shouldn't have any problems with players missing the dang bus!  ??? I'm going with the Rebels in this one.  It should be a good game early but I've got the Rebs pulling away late in the game.  5+
 10. these two may play a warm up if both make the post season...might be a good one
 11.

Seems no-one can break away in this district.  It may get interesting down the stretch.  Isn't Haglar a senior this year?  Just wondering. Congrats Raiders...
After only two weeks of play how do you expect someone to "break away"?  Of course there are two teams that are 2-0 but at best they are 2 games ahead of only 2 other teams that are 0-2.
easy to see why you have half as many negative K as you have posts
 12. heard one of Evadales starting infielders missed the dang bus and didn't make the trip.  ??? ??? ???
 13. Game started at 4:30.   Only Evadale and Sabine Pass have lights in this district.  I think.  Not sure why, all of Evadale's home games start at 4:30 even thought they spent tons of money a few years ago for a really nice lighting system.  Who knows?! Anyway, go get em Rebels!!!
 14. Y'all overlook Abe!  Honestly!!   We're proud of our Rebels and nearly all of us and the team as well feel as if we play with class and heart.  We appreciate HI and their effort and wish them the best of luck the rest of the season.  To SP.  We as a whole have no ill feelings toward  you guys and have enjoyed YEARS of good competition with the Sharks!  Look forward to meeting with you on the field soon for some good baseball.   As far as the game, the Rebels looked much better that a team with roughly a weeks practice under their belt.  Looking really good guys and keep up the hard work.
 15.
I found out today that the 3 man crew that called the Evadale/Eula game was sent home packing. They will not be doing any championship games.
Holy Cow!!!  Oh well, it doesn't change a thing but in a strange way it administers a small amount of justice.  Thanks for your info Aggie.  Mo said you were a class act but I figured he said that cause his kid is going to A&M... :D
 16.
I will agree on one thing..........it is tough to lose a ball game on a shot at the buzzer.  But what I dont agree with is that several people are blaming the refs for Evadale losing.........if I am not mistaken Evadale led by 8 with 4:35 to play and only scored 3 points in the final 4:35.  It should have never come down to a last second shot.  Not knocking Evadale at all, they were very impressive in their playoff run and should be proud.  Just knocking the people who say that the refs "STOLE" this from the Evadale kids!!! ::) ::) ::)
I respectfully disagree with your take that it was somewhat the Rebs fault for blowing a lead.  If that was the case, why didn't they give Evadale the win when they overcame a 9pt deficit to take the lead?  No, you play it out.  SO, if the shot is disallowed then who knows, blowing a lead is part of the game.  Starting the clock a we-little bit late and getting a shot off a we-little bit late in no way makes it ok because a lead was blown....JMO  If I took you out of context, sorry. And 06, if you think we're dragging this out too much, you certainly don't have to comment.  Feel free to say nothing!
 17. We did ourselves good by getting Williams on board.  Some thought we would never see the light of day after the last coach left, well looks like he at least has not done a bad job.  Congrats to the Rebels and to Coach Williams, great job and a class act!
 18.
If Evadale makes it to State. I know one thing.. 1A is Weak... i don't follow 1A but have seen evadale play and they are not State material...
uhhh
 19.
I dont see Evadale getting past Milano ... yes Milano may be undersized against Evadale's bigs ... but Milano can absolutely hit from beyond the arc .. i dont think Evadale's outside game is anywhere close to Milano's ... Milano comes from a heavy 1A basketball area .. Evadale ... well they dont its a very weak basketball district has been for years now .. Sorry im from the Golden Triangle and i support local teams .. and sure ill be cheering for Evadale .. but i do not see them getting past Milano
Nice try...take another guess  ??? ??? ???
 20. Go get em Rebs and never quit!  I remember in 2000 when Evadale won State, we were the underdog in EVERY game! Last year in the State run in baseball, again, the Rebs were the underdog each and every game!  So, suck it up and take it to em, after all YOU are in the 3rd round of the playoffs while most schools in the state have been playing baseball for a couple weeks.
 21. This will playoff atmosphere before the playoffs.  Love it!!!  March Madness a little early.
 22.
We used to blow the whistle coming down the tunnel but I haven't heard a whistle this year.I think they may have changed that practice.
I'm not disagreeing for the sake of it, but I can remember several times this year that the refs have blown the whistle upon entering the gym.  Not trying to argue just something I've noticed.
Sure wish you guys would leave blue alone.  makes our whole town look stupid when you wake him up
