Jasper & Silsbee amongst oldest rivalries in Texas
fanofthegame7 replied to JB94's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
the game at jasper that was a tie and silsbee won on first downs was a good one too...i believe the QB(mathews)got a thigh bruise and would just stand by the ball (so he wouldn't have to walk to the huddle) when silsbee broke the huddle they would tell him the play...a true warrior....i believe silsbee considers this more of a rivalry than jasper does.... I disagree with that, most of the older folks from Jasper that I know considers Silsbee their biggest rivalry. and I disagree with you...having been on both ends of the rivalry.... -

Texas High School Football Preseason Top 40

All I know is that Brook is in trouble. I hope they don't get exploited too much for the Katy game... ;) I heard that! The problem is, we might get exploited by either of a couple of schools before we get beat down by Katy. Yes SgtRey, I know Bruce is very talented, but he has not seen a snap of varsity competition......especially at the QB position. It's going to take a few weeks for everything to fall into place, and we might have a pretty good team in the making, but we haven't done anything yet. Rankings are nice, but they dont mean a thing when it comes to winning games. Your right 82...did you see the scrimmage today? No, I missed it.....how did we look? AAWWW, you know I can't say....we'll see you at the Ozen game. Going to Lufkin Sat? yea...how did they look....I had to work -
you was not on time very often..lol working on something in indy with the hogs and then coming to team and see them success with what was taught ....I miss that...

Is Spring football REALLY necessary?
fanofthegame7 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If you think having the best evaluation of your players that you can have going into the season is a waste of time.....well some coaches would disagree with you(mostly the successful ones) -
Is Spring football REALLY necessary?

I think I can answer your question....you spend a whole off-season working with a kid at a position,he understands the concepts and looks good in shorts. He's the guy you think is the started so he gets more reps ...then august rolls around and the kid cant do the job when pads are on....you just wasted an off season on a kid getting most of the reps and now you have to catch up another player as the season is going....when you have a turn over on a lot of players each year spring ball helps insure you have your "players"on the field in august....bottom line.. Soooooo, you say that kids can't look good in SPRING BALL in pads and stink it up against real competition in the fall??....WOW... : :......SPRING FOOTBALL IS A WASTE OF TIME..... : Im answering your question to the advantage of having spring ball...I didnt read your statement anywhere in my answer.... -

that's not the question ....the question is why did Brook and Nederland stop playing....after the last time they played Nueman told Stump he didn't want to schedule Brook the next year, that's when Stump went out and found other teams to play...

wrong....after the last time they played Neuman said he didnt want to play WB any more....

Did The Spread Kill The QB?
fanofthegame7 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith, Vince Young, along with every Tech QB draft have either struggled or sitting the bench in the pros. Also, it's killing offensive linemen as well. Say what you want about the option but Nebraska kept an Olineman in the first round of the draft. Sissy ball is watering down all positions on offense sans Wide Receiver.... yea...Florida's offense is so watered down I don't see how they WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP....obviously i don't agree with your oppion.. -

Then what happened? What do you mean what happened? Clayton went to the 2nd round in his first year with the remains of the Brooks coached kids. The next year, we learned that talent alone is not enough. exactly...the limited success that Clayton had was a direct result of Brooks program.... Please! Let me first say that there was no one happier than I was when Clayton got the job. There was no one more disappointed to see what happened. Clayton chose politics and it ended up costing him and the kids in the end. The kids that Clayton coached in his second year were kids that he had coached at the Freshman/JV levels previously. How could it be Brooks' fault? If Brooks were to blame, then wouldn't there have been problems in Clayton's first year and not the second? I worded my post wrong.....the only reason Clayton had any success was because of what Brooks had done with the program the 3 years he was their...by Claytons second year he had to rely on his on program and you see what happened... I know this is old news but I feel beaumont people never really appreciated what a good coach they lost with Brooks and that not just anybody can come in to a program that has good athletes and win...Im sure the staff Brooks had also was a factor to his success... -

"McGuffie wanted to transfer to a school closer to home, and Rice became more attractive by winning 10 games in a season for the first time since 1949 and operating a spread offense that should take advantage of the speed and athleticism that made McGuffie a coveted recruit. McGuffie is the second high-profile student-athlete to transfer to Rice since the start of the season, joining former Alabama and San Antonio Churchill quarterback Nick Fanuzzi. Fanuzzi was one of the state’s top signal callers from the 2007 class. "
