Silsbee may be better overall, but don’t forget last year. Imo the difference between yates and Silsbee was greater last year than it is this year and Silsbee won that game. Silsbee should win by 8-10 points. Tall lanky kid, I believe he’s #1 should be the difference. If he plays well Silsbee should control the game from start to finish.

Why not move it to college station? Plenty to do and a great basketball arena. Not saying it’s better than San Antonio because I enjoy it in San Antonio but I was kinda curious when it moved from Austin why not College Station?

Didn't Huffman meet up with Silsbee at the Regional Tournament last year? I just assumed (probably where I messed up) this years bracket would be the same.
Silsbee didn’t win district last year.

HJ gave up WAY to many offensive rebounds to Silsbee. They cut that out and shoot better from 3 it’s a single digit game.

#23 is definitely HF best overall player. #4 is there best athlete and defender. One difference IMO is HJ has 4 and even Davis can lock down and play defense when he wants to but HF only has 3. HJ can switch everything and keep ppl fresh by rotating who’s having to lock down the other teams scorer. HJ can cause a mis match with there offense and take advantage of it better than HF can. Also HJ closes out on shooters as good as any team I’ve seen. HF seemed to be off from the outside but I think HJ had a lot to do with it. The 3’s HF made were all well contested they were just good shots. My take away from this game is both teams are good and have potential to get better. I think if they play 10 times HJ wins 8 of them but with the talent level of both teams it should be 5-5. You can say it’s coaching you can say it’s basketball IQ of the players idk what but HJ is definitely a better ball club at this point in the year. They better both continue to improve if they want to knock off silsbee and take the region. I will say this, all 3 Silsbee, HJ, and Fannett are all better than the Huffman team that won the region last year…

Unless we have different definitions of the word "great". If you're referring this years team to the Lions of the early 2000s and even more recent in '15 with Arnold when they made the final four, those were "great" teams. This years team will be solid and with time will be pretty good, just not great.
I think he wasn’t necessarily saying this years team will be great, but stating that possible next year or year after they will be “great”

Is there a schedule for tomorrow yet?

Anybody know how many kids each team still has out for football?
I was wondering this same thing

I wasn’t able to make it, but had a buddy tell me HJ looks very solid, probably even better than last year, as long as their lack of size doesn’t kill them in big games.
-
I think that 01 Ozen team was better than this years BU team but, remember that Ozen team was Nationally ranked so that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Now next years United team might have an argument of best ever out of Beaumont, only time will tell. Better question, how does this BU team stack up against the P.A Memorial team that won state a few years ago? I think BU would beat them. It by how much?
-
Silsbee by 8. HF has potential but not enough outside shooting IMO to beat Silsbee. HF only chance at an upset if they win the rebound battle significantly and have plenty of offensive rebounds and put backs which has been Silsbee’s Achilles heel the past few seasons.
-
When is HF expecting to get all of their starters back? I hope soon, regardless of how high they should have finished in district when healthy, they were definitely a playoff team and that community had high expectations. If they don’t come back soon they might be to far back to climb back into playoff contention.

BU loses Arceneaux and Yates, they still undefeated? Lumberton loses Brock, do they even win a game? Huffman without Harvey is under .500. Key players matter period. You lose your leading scorer and anchor of your defense along with a 40% 3 point shooter, wins become hard. They lost almost half their offense and 10 plus rebounds a game.
I’m just saying if HF is supposed to be in the convo for making it to regionals the team should be good enough to beat a below average shepherd team without 2 starters. I guess my point is HF must rely on their best player more than I thought. Yes if Lumberton loses Brock they lose most games but that’s not a secret, that’s why I don’t see them making it past Silsbee, Huffman, HJ and HF much less teams like Yates . All I heard before the season started was how great HF and their coach is going to be and maybe we just need to pump the brakes a little bit. I promise you HJ and Huffman could play without their two best and still beat Shepherd. Didn’t HJ play a lot better teams than shepherd at the beginning of the season without 3 of their best and still win?
-
Even down two players a team that is expected to win district and make a run at the region should find a way to win this one. Shepherd has one player, coach should be able to figure out a way to slow him down.

Yeah folks said the same thing last year and who was the first to say who the best was in all SETX. Bush...! I" did. And who was right I" believe you had the kid from Nederland like most did. But so many where so wrong.! 😁
How were people wrong? Not saying Nederland kid was better but him and Bush were 2a and 2b. Best overall player in SETX last year was Kasen Harrison from BU.

When the coach goes to the local media at the beginning of the season and says "no one in the state can stop us but ourselves", and we supposedly have the greatest player ever in EC history, expectations were very high.
Taking nothing away from Ceaser he is a great player but greatest in EC history? Give me Tramaine Thomas all day if I’m starting a team with greatest EC players of all time.

What two starters was HJ missing? I think I know who one is, but who was the other? Does anyone know when they are expected back?

You get my point. There wouldn’t have been any conceding if one bracket yielded a reasonable shot at making it to the the Region Tourney and the other led to oblivion. And I believe that Yates could win Region 3 5A.
I understand Yates could win region 3 5a. I have not seen them play his year, but I did last year. Would you say that Nederland or PA neither had a chance to upset them tho? Silsbee and HJ both faired pretty well against both schools in pre season. I know that it would be an upset for them to beat Yates, but I wouldn’t say it CAN’T happen. JMO

This makes the race for 3rd and 4th place in district very interesting. Lumberton and HF seem to be on the rise where as BC and LCM on the decline, but who knows how the rest of the year is going to end up. Because WOS is still hanging around to upset someone.

Seems last games thread didn’t age well either. Lots of excuses last time about Starters. I hate excuses. BUT I will always stand by the fact that if WH had a different coach, they aren’t the same team. The players would likely agree.
Are you saying they would be better or worse? That is kind of a dumb statement though, because who knows who the coach would be and what makes a good team? Great coaching or great players? Some argue one others argue the other. Personally I think it’s a combination of the 2.

I know that, but he played for Kountze and he was a monster...
He was a monster and basketball is all about matchups and he would have been a matchup nightmare for those silsbee teams. They would of had to double him and that would have opened shots up for Hancock and other shooters kountze had.

The 04 and possibly the 07 kountze team might not beat the Silsbee team from last year or year before. It would be close because those Kountze teams were every bit as good as the Dallas Carter team that almost beat Silsbee. The 2 previous years to that though the 15’, 16’ Silsbee teams wouldn’t be within 10 points of those 2 kountze teams. So today they couldn’t hang with Silsbee the last 4 years is a HUGE stretch.

I’ve always wondered why these two don’t have a bigger rivalry? I know the past 5 years or so it wouldn’t have been much competition, but really no one has been for silsbee other than big schools. Since the schools are so close in proximity plus from about 2000-2012 they could of had some battles. I’m not completely in the loop and maybe they did play those years but I’ve always wondered how it hasn’t been a basketball rivalry. I know they are not in the same district and that plays a little role in it but I feel like Silsbee and Lumberton has been a bigger rivalry than Silsbee and Kountze.
What if?

This convo came up on Facebook and it had me thinking y’all’s opinion. Let’s say Beaumont could put together an AAU team of the best 10 players in all of the golden triangle. How would they match up against the nations best teams? I know it would never happen due to exposure that kids can get playing for bigger organizations in Houston and politics and many other issues, but what if?
