  1. Play-offs are too watered down now.  I like it better back when only 2 teams made playoffs.  Playoffs are supposed to reward teams.  An accomplishment of having a good season. Now teams with losing records are getting in the playoffs. So it's the " everybody gets a trophy" theory. Just looking at the final standings post.  There are 4 local teams with losing records that made playoffs. So your telling those kids that's 3-4 or 2-3 record in district is good enough.  Life lesson: Just because you tried your best....doesn't entitle you to anything..

My 2 cents on an easy fix: Districts with less than 8 teams, 1st and 2nd makes playoffs.  Districts with 8 or more teams, get 4 teams in.

You are DEAD wrong. UIL is the best governing body in any State for athletics. The UIL does more for high school athletics in the state of Texas than any group in any other state. It is the best run organization of its kind. Yes, they generate money, but that money goes to pay the salaries of the GREAT people they have running that organization and to support all of the other (non-revenue generating) Extracurricular Events, like Band Competitions, One-Act-Play and many, many other Academic Competitions.  If you think the UIL is in this to make money you are an idiot. They use football and basketball to fund the organization so they can put on Top Notch Events for all High School kids,

    Well said Mr SmashMouth

  3. Lumberton had a good group of a bout 12 kids who played select and middle school together.  This years Junior group.  Shame only 3-4 are left playing.  Team would be a lot more talented and deeper if they all still played.  Poor culture and unprofessionalism will hamper a program of any sport. I think last years JV team only had 6 player through district.  For a , then 5A school, that shouldn't happen
