  1. Well that was only my second girls basketball game to ever attend (the first being SHS -vs- WOS) all I can about that is WOW, 2 GREAT games!

Congrats to OHS, ya'll have a complete team, and should do well on into the playoffs!

Thanks Bleed Orange it was good meeting you as well, didn't mean to seem like a stalking and track you to the parking lot. It's just always nice to have a face with a name!

I also agree with LadyTigers_Balla singing.......WOW! I also had chill bumps, that was the most incredible thing I've ever heard!

  2. there is a lot of differences about arod's swing between then and now.  for one there is a greater knee lift and stride.  not to mention the hip slide that creates.

I'll try to explain it as I understand and also define "hip slide"!

The movement from front to back and back forwards is call momentum transfer, NOT "hip slide" once the hitter reaches heel plant, he/she will block the "hip slide" as you call it into rotation. Now if the hips continue forward in a linear path past heel plant then it would become "hip slide" creating a very over the top front foot hitter, which in my opinion is very bad!

So in short, don't confuse momentum transfer with hip slide!

As far as Pujols and A-Rod, don't miss the forest for the trees. The "style" that each of these hitter use is there OWN, but notice, by the time BOTH hiiters reach the "launch" position or "toe touch" position they are pretty much the same!

We could go on forever just explaining the difference in "style" and "mechanics"!

    Stide -vs- no stride

    Hands high -vs- hands low

    hands still -vs- hands moving

    open stance -vs- closed stance

All of these are defined by "style", it is where they are at "launch" that matters, again Bonds is a great example, his hands start fairly low - get lower - and then back up into a good position at or near his rear shoulder moving back as his body transfers his momentum toward the pitch!

  3. polls always amaze me........if the no. 1 plays no. 2......AND no. 1 wins by 1 point(regardless of the sport) the no. 2 team always drops several places???????? Isn't that what is supposed to happen?

    Texas loses to Ohio St........drops

    Michigan loses to Ohio St.......drops

Texas A&M loses to UCLA......drops (granted they also lost to #9 LSU) but that was two ranked teams in one week.........from #6 to nearly out of the top 20 WOW!

  4. yes that kellum girl is really something.she could go to a D1 school if she wanted...when she starts getting her fire' date=' the rest of the team adds along with it.. the ladycats are nothing to ignore.[/quote']

Well the extent of my girls basketball knowledge is what I read on this site. It seems that HF isn't getting any love for upsetting a top ranked WOS.....was this just a fluke in most peoples mind, or is HF the real deal?

Obviously the SHS v OF was a great game as expected, and if KV is as good as some say then we have 5 teams battling, it seems SHS and OF are a notch above and 3 teams will battle for 3rd, not the clear cut 1-2-3 as most have predicted.

This girls BB stuff is getting fun to follow! I think I might just have to go watch those lady tigers play.

  5. First off' date=' Texas won the football game[/size']. Did you not see the TD that was called back at the end of the half?? No way that was pass interference, they both were fighting for position and any ref will tell you that play would have been a TD. Final score would have been 14-13. Also, Texas is starting a freshman QB who TAMU cheap shotted all game. Texas lost a lot of guys to the NFL, which TAMU did not. And in basketball, Texas' 3 best players were drafted to the NBA, so they have basically all freshman and soph. starting. And trust me, next year Texas will kill TAMU in football. McCoy will have a year of experience and Charles will get a lot more carries, like he should be getting this year.

Then quit crying about it and go celebrate! I thought that's what you do when you win, not sit on a computer and cry what if this, and what if that!

  6. I watched all 3 games at Moorehead stadium this weekend.

First I'd like to say Condradulations to all 3 teams ( Kirbyville, Silsbee, and Newton) for a great season!

Second I'd like to thank each for some exciting games!

Third.....well, it's only my opinion, but none of these teams played to their potential....I was fortunate enough to have seen each during the season and they are all three are better teams than what they showed this weekend! I think each of these teams were "the better teams" overall, just not when it counted in the end!

Kirbyville blew a 14 point lead late in the 4th quarter, Silsbee blew a 10 point lead late in the 4th quarter, and Newton continued to shoot themselves in the foot the entire 1st half.

Kirbyville and Silsbee seemed to go into the "just don't lose" mode! BOTH teams had the momentum and had the outside running game working, and gave it up for the dive to RUN THE CLOCK OUT, rather than continue on their game plan and try to score again, and it cost them both in the end!

Newton just could not play pass defense, they seemd to have Marlin in 3rd and 4th and long several times, just to give up a long pass for the 1st down.....to little to late.

It was a weekend of heartbreak no doubt, to see 3 teams with their talent end their season in such a dramatic fashion........ALL three teams left EVERYTHING on the field......No room for shame, GREAT job S.E.T I am very proud of each of you!

  7. NOt just being a homer........I did the research!

Silsbee has as good a chance to play in the state final as anyone....here we go!

The #1 team in 3A (Gilmer) is in the other side of the bracket, wouldn't meet until the State Championship!

The other ranked teams in Division I are as follows

    10 - Decatur - Region 1

    11 - Abilene Wiley - Region 1

    14 - Belleville - Region 3

    15 - Hutto - Region 3

    17 - Silsbee - Region 3

    19 - Royse City - Region 2

    Hutto should beat Robinson

Palestine & Dibol will be a good game - Palestine picked to win

    Silsbee should beat Splendora

    Bellville should beat West Colimbia

A lot of talk about Palestine playing in the Reg 3 finals I think it will be Hutto.

Silsbee will have a good game against Bellville - ball control and control the turnovers! Silsbee holds on for late win!

Silsbee -vs- Hutto for Region 3 final! Silsbee flexes their muscles in this one and wins by decent margin!

Region 4 is a very weak region, whoever (Silsbee) wins Region 3 should move into the State Final!

Why: SHS has played to the ability of their opponent each week until late in the season.......held onto WOS, beating K'ville impressively (until it didn't really matter) (still need to work on this though) Didn't play down to Jasper in a big rivalary game......

    Turnovers are much improved

    They believe in themselves!

This is my OPINION on why Silsbee can and should win DIVISION I REGION 3 and play for the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

  8. Fair enough the 3rd place teams have done fairly well at times and very well at times.....but that's with 2 STATE CHAMPIONS! In my opinion there should be only one CHAMPION in each classification!

    Ideas:

    1) Let all 3 teams play in the same playoff system!

    2) Create more classifications!

    3) Have Div 1 and Div 2 play an extra game to decide on ONE CHAMPION!

    4) BCS style playoff system, only the top ???? ranked teams go, based on strength of schedule, playing up helps, playing down against "ranked" teams help...etc.etc.

Reasons why it's the way it is:

    1) Money for UIL

    2) Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so let more teams go.

    3) More and more super districts, so you have to allow 3 because 4 of those combined teams are ligit playoff contenders!

I personally would like the ranking system....top 64 teams go. Sure you will have some complaining about who's ranked 55-70 but who cares. Who knows of the lowest ranked team to ever win a state championship in any classification? I'm guessing not lower than 30 for sure, probably not out of the top 10!

    Just my opinion!

  9. Silsbee is BIG! But I am not impressed with their defense. I am however impressed with their offense. It will be a shoot out because of the teams two good offenses. The cats D will elevate their game and cause some turn overs. I pick the cats 32-28

So the fact that they held WOS to 20 points is NOT impressive to you, and until it was all but over held Kville to 12.......what does it take to impress you?

Silsbee proved against WOS we CAN play against anyone, We should do well!

  10. Rushing Title!

That will be decided by who gets the most RUSHING yards at the end of the season.

Who would you want on your team?

Now that is a totally differnt question.

That decision would need multiple variables to decide.

    1 - rushing

2 - recieving out of the backfield

    3 - Blocking

    4 - Attitude

    5 - Heart

and I'm sure many other things - one thing for sure, I'd bet no one would trade the one they have for another!

    They are all good backs!

  11. I first will appolagize for some recent comments on my part toward Coach McGallion.......I criticized publicly, I'll appolagize publicly!

Second.....GREAT COACHING, we made some MAJOR adjustments from previous weeks, and it showed. Sure there were some calls that could be questioned, but sometimes you go against what everyone is thinking to get the element of surprise........if that pass is caught instead of the INT........he is a genious....and WE WIN....it didn't so move on!

If SHS will take this game, and continue to improve (which they will) we will play at least 3 rounds deep. The Tigers got a taste of how sucessful they can be with simple execution and hard work. Remember WOS is a great team (#2 in the State), we had a chance to win that game, so by my calulations......we can play with anybody as well!

    GO TIGERS!

  12. you're right, I didn't mean it that way! I appoligize!

Wins are wins.......but it's still disapointing looking at the caliber of wins and one can ONLY wonder what will come of the playoffs (and we WILL make the playoffs) if we can't do any better than that against teams we should be pounding!

I'm done here I think I've more than made my point!

  13. fair enough Champion........I wouldn't bash my boss on a public forum either!

    Buna X2

    Shephard X2

    Cold Spring X2

(should we really brag about these wins)

Kirbyville x2 (fair enough they did do well)

Jasper 1-1 and if they wanted to beat us the first time they would have (MOYE in the second half)

Palestine - well make all the excuses necessary but if you want to be considered GOOD then you have to be able to beat thse caliber teams.

OF - alot closer than should be

BC - about what it should have been

    HF - OMG!

    WOS - ??????

Yes we are winning and that is GREAT, but we have the athletes to do this anyway........should be making a statement!
