  1. You are right...Div. III schools can only offer academic scholarships to prospective students and then they play whatever sport they are chosen for. We had two young ladies from WO-S who were being looked at by Louisiana College, but one decided to go to TWU and the other is going elsewhere, perhaps, Lamar. Rumor was that LC was having some problems. Don't know exactly what those problems were...
  2. Hands down...Coach T!!! No comparison.
  3. There was a roster posted on wo-s.com, but it was just that...a roster.
  4. Young Foreman will be dearly missed, but I don't think he'll break our football team. Fortunately, talent and discipline from the defensive side of the program will hopefully help us on the offense.
  5. Congratulations and good luck at Texas A&M, Mr. Letsinger. Anyone know what he will be majoring in?
  6. Tobe is a coach that these Mustang players relate to. He is young and very involved. He will definitely be missed, but maybe, just maybe some day...he will return to WO-S. I hope so. :'( As for class...I have NEVER met anyone with as much class and as genuine as Coach Mark Foreman. I told him the night that we lost to Giddings to tell his daughter that she was the luckiest girl in the world to have him as a father. He still attends many athletic events (in fact, just saw him at the state track meet). A true inspiration to these young kids and he will be sorely missed. Of course, Tobe has to have inherited some of those traits! Good luck Tobe and don't forget the Mustangs...present and past!!! Hope to see you back in about 3-4 years!!!
  7. Very well said MOM. These are kids who compete and bust their butts day in and day out. They do look at this site and many do not post responses, but you can't tell me that they are not affected in one way or another by the negative posts on here. There is a difference when mistakes are made and when a kid is making the choice to screw up. As for Dayton, I said in a previous post...do not hang your heads because there is nothing to be ashamed of. You finished as the 8th best team in the state of Texas which is an AWESOME ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! To the BH (or whoever) posters who posted the "yeah they lost"...shame on you and if you have kids or not...grow up and be more sensitive to a group of kids who did a great job this year. I do feel for the BH kids who caught the unlucky break that they did at Regionals.
  8. I think that WO-S should fare well this season. There a couple more than Garrett coming back, but I think that it doesn't appear that way because we don't necessarily have any super-standout athletes, which can be good too.
  9. I think that this will be a break-out season for Depauldrick Garrett. He has played in the shadows of Deon and Earl/Jacoby, but this year...I think that he will step it up. I agree with the poster who said that he reminded them of Adrian Steen of the late 1980s. He should lead the Mustangs into another playoff run (an extended one, not first/second/third rounds). ;D
  10. Just a question... do the students or even student-athletes (in other sports) pay or do they get in free? Just wondering because I know back in the day, students who participated in any extra-curricular activities were given a student pass and allowed in all games (except play-off games) for free. I wish that they would go back to that, but some school districts can't afford it...I guess.
  11. Dear Oracle...what name did you go before you posted your previous two posts? I don't recall (not that it did not happen) Dayton gloating because BH dropped the baton. I think that they defended the notion that they somehow intentionally "kicked" the baton out of your guy's hand, but they are just defending their efforts. If anyone is gloating...remember that these kids have busted their butts to get to that meet and if they don't live up to the extremely high expectations that they have set for themselves...how do you think some of these very heartless and thoughtless comments make them feel. ???
  12. Great race young man! The WO-S fans were cheering you all of the way. You seemed to shock many in the stands. Great way to represent Silsbee and SE Texas. ;D
  13. To the Dayton Relay Team...I really hate to hear that you were DQ'ed. As a parent, I pray that the race doesn't false start, no one is DQ'ed, and no one is hurt. I truly hope that some of your relay team members are not seniors and to those who are...YOU DID WHAT ONLY SEVEN OTHER TEAMS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS DID...YOU MADE IT TO STATE. That, young men, is nothing to hang your head about. If I knew any one of these posters (from whereever) GLOATING in these KIDS' disqualification...I would be ashamed to be related to you or even know you. These kids worked as hard (if not harder to make it to the state meet). BH was dealt a bad blow, but stuff happens.
  14. LC-M's Drew Bean WO-S' 4X100 meter and 4X200 meter relay teams, Earl Thomas in long jump Vidor has a pole vaulter Is that all of Orange County? ???
  15. I will attend my first State Track Meet this weekend. To all who have been before, what is a good time to arrive to the track on Saturday morning in order to get a good seat (like by the finish line)? Just wondering. Isn't it $10 to get in or $15 for both days? Someone was asking last night. Thanks. Good luck to all of the students representing Southeast Texas this weekend. Bring home some medals!!! ;D
  16. Congrats Kountze. That is a nice accomplishment. GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO HAVE NOW QUALIFIED FOR STATE. REPRESENT SOUTHEAST TEXAS WELL. BRING HOME SOME MEDALS. ;D
  17. Earl Thomas from WO-S, placed third at Regionals.
  18. I saw a glimpse of the news (sports) and Steve Nash had a broken nose? What happened? Way to go San Antonio...you're our only chance for a championship now. :'(
  19. Pretty neat "little" article in the Bmt. Enterprise today. The film analyzation was pretty cool. Again, good luck Mr. Parker!!! ;D My breakdown would have one more clip...the ambulance peeling me off of the runway because I would never make it in the air!
  20. How tragic. Thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Peters, his family and friends. Is there any other way to make a donation if someone is unable to attend the basketball tourney?
  21. Good luck Jared Parker in Austin. I agree, pole vault is very precision-based. At regionals, we were able to watch some of the girls and whew...I couldn't do it...that's for sure. One question. There was one girl who was wearing a safety helmet, which we all thought was an excellent idea. I know that it is probably a distraction, but I am surprised that more don't choose to wear them or that they are not required. Just a thought!
  22. Well spoken, PURPLE4EVER. As difficult as it is, it is over and nothing can change that. Good luck Dayton next weekend. Hope to see you run.
  23. Just have to wait on the paper.
  24. I don't know...just going by what he says and obviously it has helped him! ;D
