I can honestly say that I live in a very political place when it comes to football. Part of that maybe the volume of Indian fans. The more fans you have naturally you will have more detractors. The other side to that coin is the fact that our former coach was so well loved in this community. He was not just a coach but sort of a icon after 1999. He was very similar to what Jeff is to Vidor now. Babin is like Duboise in BC in the way that he cares about Lumberton. Lumberton is decently successful at the junior league levels and some in Junior High. translating that to wins at the varisty level will require a change of the way the students in high school look at football. We have a kid who moved into PNG from Lumberton this year and he ended up living next door to me. When the season began he asked if he could catch a game with me. His words"to see what this PNG Football is all about." 2 games later he had a Purple shirt and was blown away. He said that the way PNG treats football and the way Lumberton looks at it is to very different things. The spirit of the school is not the same. This will help get kiddos to turn out if they can change this. Please understand this is not a shot at Lumberton yet and observation from an outsider with an insiders help. I absolutley think Lumberton has made a great choice in Babin. He will change the way football is looked at given the time to do it. Until then he will not have the participation to help find consistant winning ways. Lumberton has the kids to compete week in and week out once they start playing. We need Lumberton and all the teams to be better in our district to be able to compete at the highest levels of high school football. Tha last time PNG went to state we had 3 top ten teams in our district at one time. THAT WAS NO ACCIDENT> when you compete at that level you win big.

The crazy thing this year is people are complaining still, they are beat up and banged up with an 11-1 record.  Last year people complained that they didn't run it enough and they were chasing passing records.  This year it's they are running the stud QB too much.  He's changed his philosophy with what he's got.  That's the mark of a good coach.  On defense they've got average to below average talent, but kids that flat out give you everything.  It could be a lot worse.  Enjoy the moment and cheer on those hard working kiddos.

An example of what I think Gabe is talking about I saw Friday night.  The Indians had just scored to take a 21-14 lead which they would not relinquish.  Robanadana turned to me and said, "And to believe! Last year they wanted him fired!" My reply, "Fired!? They wanted him dead!"
At which time, a PN-G fan turns around and says, "Yeah, and if he would have lost to Nederland a couple of weeks ago, he would have been fired!"  This as PN-G is poised to advance to a round it has seen only one other time this century (the other one was the Faircloth coached 2010 team). 
I remember the hubbub here during the the last part of last school year when Faircloth was rumored to be taking the job up at Lucas.  Perhaps these two things are related.

I'd like to see Coach Flanigan and the Bruins continue to build on their success. It's nice to see Beaumont ISD schools do well and get positive publicity.

I'm so glad there wasn't a message board when I was in HS! If my mother had written anything on this board about my play or lack-there-of, or had criticized my coach - I would've been so embarrassed...

So can we change the subject and talk about what time we need to be on the road in order to beat traffic and be sitting in the stands before the game starts? 

I encourage all PN-G fans to attend a  booster club meeting.  You will learn about run/pass options, the progressions the QB reads, the combination routes the WRs run, the protections called for the OL, and other things about the program, i.e., defensive alignments/calls.  I live out of town, but I have been to approx. 5 to 7 meetings in the past nine years.  It is worth your time to attend.  As for who plays and who doesn't, that is not for me to comment upon.  If we have a young man that can contribute, then "Next Man Up."  Given the injuries we have, we need some help with depth.  If there is a young man that can help, and he has the ability and attitude to help, then I say give him a shot.  Help in practice, help your teammates get better, and when your number is called for a game, give it all you got...do what you have been coached to do.  Whoever contributes, be it at practice or in a game, you are an Indian and you have my support.  Once an Indian, Always an Indian.  Rally behind the coaches and players.  Let's get another playoff win.
