  1. Not that you would give anyone from Nederland credit, I don't think you know the talent as well as you think. I don't know what games you watched but Bellow and Pitts stood out as above average players in the games I saw. While he was a solid 3rd baseman, Sampere didn't pitch much at all. Bellow appeared to be Nederland's best pitcher this year. He will probably be the ace next year. Nederland's defense was as good as anybody's I saw but only Bellow and Pitts hit with consistency. However, this thread is not just about Nederland. It's going to be a competitive district as always. LCM returns most of their team and with their coaching should be in the hunt for 1st. PNG will have to replace pitching but will be strong as well. Vidor is a big question mark. They lose some key players and leadership but will return a solid lineup with Hester, Hagler, Sims, and Bruce. All of the above teams should compete as always. Coaching will probably make the difference.
  2. Maybe nothing but maybe everything. I know another school that every decision they make regarding hiring and reassignments are based on how it will effect football. That started when the current AD began building his program. Other programs have suffered but the football program has been successful. BC may be experiencing the same thing. Just speculation. I know it can't be based on job performance. Coach Bryant's record speaks for itself.
  3. Thread should read, Who didn't make All-District in 4A? ;D
  4. Check your PM and PM me back with your thoughts.
  5. Amen! All the players did was play the game and allowed us to enjoy it.
  6. Don't think so. This list doesn't even include the Honorable Mention players that I've been told exists. Coaches have made a mockery of the All District Team for the past two seasons. Entire starting lineups make it. Once selected as an underclassman your history carries you until you graduate; positions changed from where a player played in order to recognize them; two players at each infield position on second team when the better of the two players is obvious; team that ties for third place has more players than the first place team; last place team has as many on 1st Team as PNG; It's a joke! Hope SETXSports does better!
  7. Great bunch of players. I like that they break it down as infielder/outfielder and don't do it by position. Allows the best all around infielders/outfielders even if they come from the same position to get recognized.
  8. P: Eric Harrington(PNG) DD Lott(Ozen) Dallas Brown(LCM) C: Jon Carnahan(PNG) Stefan Leger(LCM) Inf: Kirby Bellow(Ned) Chad Richard(LCM) Josh Gardiner(Ozen) Jordan Pitts(Ned) Jon Gunn(LCM) Thad Lycan(WB) Blake Moss(Silsbee) OF: Kevin Roebuck(H-J) Will Fontenow(Vidor) Kelvin Thomas(Cen) Utility: Matt Hicks(BC) Mitch Todd(PNG) DH: Blake Hubbard(BC) Aaron McFarland(Ned) These are the players I saw that were strong both offensively and defensively this year. Some of the players who have regularly been on the team over the past several years had strong years with the bats but did not with the gloves or strong years defensively but not with the bats. I believe some get mentioned based on their history and not what they did this year. They are still strong players but the above guys had better all around seasons this year.
  9. Orange County Rivalry, 2nd Place at stake, senior night, and momentum going to the playoffs, all good arguments for either team. This one is too close for me to even take a stab at the winner. I do hope Vidor does not take the night off due to already clinching. It goes to the integrity of the game. Every team should always play to win throughout the season. You never know if the shoe might be on the other foot(needing a little help as Nederland is) at some point in the future.
  10. I see both sides to the head to head argument. If you won both games in district you should win the tie. However, I am inclined to say when possible all ties should be decided on the court or field whichever the case may be. Just a humble opinion. It usually depends on which team you support as to which opinion you agree with. Either way it is great that so much parity exists in this district that the final two playoff spots were not decided until the final week of district.
  11. I don't see it as bashing either. I hope he learns to deal with emotion and decision making for practical reasons and not just sports. Rash behavior has led a lot of otherwise good kids to trouble. This is also a lesson for us adults to not forget our responsibilities. We are sometimes tempted to look the other way because a kid is talented instead of nipping the attitude early on. I remember a kid obviously taunting and trying to incite a fight during a game. His mother stated, "That's just the way he plays." Let's not excuse poor behavior but correct it. It's more important to be a good person than a good athlete.
  12. Although Ozen is still in the playoff hunt(outside chance), it appears their fans are making the Vidor game their playoff instead trying to win all three games this week. They're talking about saving their ace, DD Lott, for Vidor. We all know any team in this district can surprise you. Vidor's infield defense has not been as solid this year as it was last year but I still think their pitching and bats get it done. They are trying to keep from ending in a tie for second or even third. They want to be the second place team coming out of district. Vidor by 2.
  13. I wouldn't settle for 1 of 2. I want both of them for two reasons: 1.) I want to be the second place team for sure, not the third, in the playoffs. 2.) I want momentum going into the playoffs as well. Good luck in these last two tough games.
  14. Both teams stranded runners. The difference that I saw in this game was pitching. Dallas Brown didn't have his best stuff but allowed his defense to work behind him. Josh Dean obviously, after the PNG game results, also did not have his best stuff. His walks and hit-by-pitches didn't allow the defense to make a play for him and made for a big second inning for the Bears. He's a young pitcher and it goes that way some times. Griff switched pitchers quickly to stop the bleeding before the damage was done and Nederland's coach gave his pitchers a chance to work out of it and made the change after the lead was lost. I tip my hat to the Dogs for not giving up after such a big second inning and congratulations to LCM on the win. Dogs keep battling. You need some help but your still in it!
