How do players who missed several games due to disciplinary reasons make the team much less 1st Team.  They must be very dominant to beat out guys who played in all of their drespective team's games.  Congrats to all who did make it!

Unfortunately old school isn't accepted anymore.  Schools now have to send forms home for permission to inflict corporal punishment.  I know from personal experience that since the late 70's Nederland has suspended players from participating in extracurricular activities for drinking at school.  As a parent, my kid would not play again this season.  Doesn't matter what the school imposed.....I know you say it is punishing the team but my job as a parent is to raise my kid....furthermore, instead of punishing the team, it sends the message that playing is a privilege and self-discipline is necessary to play.  That can actually help a team.  It gives some other players the chance to step up.  Mistakes happen but there are consequences and the players knew that before they made the poor choice.  They weren't thinking about the team by their actions. Hopefully they learn from it and move on since they still have another year left after this one.

[/quote] Because Beaumont never seems to truly deal with the problem.  They let the kid who got caught smoking weed in Orange play basketball.  Winning was more important that teaching a kid a lesson.  He ended up doing the same thing at college and lost the scholarship.  BISD has some responsiblity for not holding the kid accountable when they could have.  At least NISD is suspending them from extracurricular activities for 6 weeks.  Must not have been a coach who caught them though!!!lol

On any given day it could be Sonnier, Babino, Pitts, Duplant, or Smith.  What a problem for Nederland to have! ;)

20-4A Vidor:  Hagler(solid pitcher), Mohica(strong lead-off and good cf), Maxwell(best utility player p/ss) PNG:  Gizzi(good year with both bat and glove), Stone(down year but still is one of the better players) Nederland:  T. Smith(best pitcher), Pitts(best bat), Sonnier(best short stop), Babino(best catcher), Duplant(2nd best pitcher, solid bat, but too many errors at third). Central:  Nobody;  I know this will make some mad but noone on that team would start elsewhere. Ozen:  The short stop could make 2nd team ss or utility. Lumberton:  need to see again; didn't look as strong as some hyped when I saw them. Livingston:  CF impressed.

[/quote] He signed for football and hopes to play basketball.  No guarantee he will do both.  He will have to improve greatly to play basketball.  Besides Lamar may have a new basketball coach next year.

Vidor 3 votes and PNG none....Destroys credibility.  February 8th LCM plays PNG not Nederland.  Nederland plays @ Lumberton.

Nederland has a lot to prove.  Based on their inconsistency of play....they could be overrated.  They can't look past anyone.  I'm not sure they should be state-ranked.

In spite of his dad, Colten Weisbrough(sp) from Nederland is a good athlete that could compete for a spot in Nederland's lineup.

I am surprised at the uproar over all district.  The watered down all district selections happen in all sports in 20-4A.  If you have paid attention it seems the standards change each year to fit who the most influential coaches want to get recognized from their team.  I compare it to summer league all star selections when kids make it due to being related to a coach; because every team feels they have to be represented whether they have a player deserving of the recognition; or because they have a good looking momma. ;)

I think Neuman has done good to get to the playoffs with all of the injuries at key positions the last several years.  However, keeping it in perspective, no team should be satisisfied with getting in as a third or fourth place team and that seems to be what Nederland fans have come to be satisfied with...there are coaches from the past who would of been able to make the playoffs in 4th place consistently.  I don't think getting rid of Neuman is the answer but do need to shake things up.

Forney will help the team when he arrives but he is not as huge a piece as he was over the past several years.  IMO Smith and Cunningham are the best 2 players.  Smith is the most athletic player in recent memory.  Cunningham almost shoots as good as Chris Hammond and plays better on defense.  Point play will be better than it has been in years with Mitchell and English playing at that position.  Wagner plays a strong defensive roll with an occasional 3-pointer here and there.  You also get good defensive play, points, and rebounds from roll players: Pitts, Landry, Killian,...  The bench is deep.  This team appears to have gelled and works well together.  Forney needs to come in with the intent to be a team player not an individual....work as hard as his teammates....check his ego.....no devisiveness like in football.  If so, this team could go farther than last year. Nederland wins in a close one!           

Appreciate the info and any updates you put on here.  Could you add the game numbers beside each of the games listed above, so that we can see which teams go where in the bracket?  Good Luck in Eagle Pass!!!
