  1. Coaching is the clear difference. Look at WOS a few years ago vs now. No culture change, just a different coaching staff. PNG under this coaching staff goes to state with at least one of R Johnson teams. Joesph takes over a Faircloth team and goes to state the next season. I’d go as far as saying that this current PNG staff would have took one or two of the 2014, 2015 Nederland teams to state.
  2. I’ve seen all 3 of these teams play this year (HF, Silsbee and Jasper) IMOP Jasper has the most talented team in the district but they are also the worst coached and undisciplined of the 3. Jasper would have beat HF without all the unnecessary roughness calls and poor offensive play calling. If HF and Jasper are lucky enough to meet in the 3rd round I’ve got Jasper winning but don’t see HF making it to round 3. Silsbee has the best player in the district in Miller and some other good complimentary receivers and RB. Silsbee has the best shot of of making the deeper run of the 3 teams. HF is well coached and has good talent but their offense line will be their downfall. Their QB is very accurate and the best in the district when given time to set his feet. When he played Silsbee and Jasper he was throwing off his back foot all game and had no time to set his feet. He took some hug hits in both these games. With all that said, I wish all the teams in this district the best of luck and pray for the best. One thing is for sure they are battle tested.
  3. It looks like Jasper and HF would have a rematch if they both make it to the 3rd round.
  4. I wish this was the case but it looks like HF meets Cuero in 2nd round. HF would have been better off as 3rd seed.
  5. Congratulations Nederland. A PNG fan was counting y’all out a few weeks ago. This has to hurt.
  6. I believe he is out with a hip injury.
  7. Big win for LCM with arguably there best player still playing football. LCM will be a tough out in district play.
  8. I am afraid Nederland is in trouble. I can see BH and PNG both beating TC. Not what I expected after beating PNG. BH losing to PNG did us in.
  9. I’m surprised by this! This is the 1st time in how many years Bates hasn’t got her team to the regional tournament?
  10. It’s all about match ups. Crosby beat the breaks of BH twice and Nederland took 1 of 2 from Crosby and it could of been 2 of 2. I haven’t seen GCM play but comparing common opponents isn’t always a accurate measuring stick. I expect a prepared Nederland team and that this game could go either way.
  11. This is a big win. Nederland lost to Crosby twice last year. As I said before, if Gipson and Tyler both play well this is a different team. I still think this years team is better than last years team. They play better as team defensively and offensively.
  12. He is a great coach and does more with his teams with less talent than anyone. Take Boute for example at Westbrook. He has a championship pedigree at Lincoln and to some the greatest coach ever but he’s getting it handed to him now. Why is that? Same coach but different results. It’s all about the talent you have to work with. IMO.. You give English the talent of Lincoln and Yates, yeah he wins a state title.
  13. IMO...This years team is just as good as last years team. This years team plays better over all defense and they share the ball better than the team last year. Last years team did better with the press with the help of Hefner. The problem at the moment as compared to earlier games this year is that Gipson is in a funk. He hasn’t played very well. When he’s in a grove then you have the inside and outside threat with him and Jackson and this becomes a different team. With that said, there not beating a BU or Crosby team even with everyone playing to there potential however they can beat a BH or Memorial team if they are. 3rd, 4th and 5th is up for grabs but If Gipson can’t get out of his slump Nederland will finish 5th.
  14. Perhaps that should let him kick everything 30 yards or less and anything over let the other kid bring it home.
  15. 4 points left on the table. Hope that doesn’t come back to haunt us. Where is the kid that nailed the 41 yarder vs Crosby?
  16. Hefner all state? I don’t agree with that one. Lost in 2nd round and avg 6 pts a game in the playoffs. It seems a lot of selection are made by recruitment status and not results.
  17. This would only apply to open enrollment schools. Just simply close the the enrollment to just the district area and your good. Problem solved.
  18. This is the biggest issue right here. If they truly have that many to choose from then they should be in the highest classification period. This would fix a lot of the issues. The best way to fix it in my opinion is that you classify every open enrollment school by population in there area. If you have a area that kids can play for your school then it should be counted in there enrollment numbers.
  19. Let me get all this straight! 1. Yates are cheaters and recruit players but somehow do it legally by UIL rules? Yates also had a player ruled ineligible by the UIL but the other senior transfers were apparently given the green light by the UIL? So don’t this make them legit? 2. Clay Davis is a sore loser and cry baby and he had to come up with a reason why him and he’s team got embarrassed. I don’t agree with his statement he made in the BMT enterprise although it doesn’t surprise me. He knew a beat down was coming. In my eyes that makes him a cry baby and sore loser. Time to move on and good luck to all the other area teams still alive.
  20. I honestly think most of the people that post negative things about Hefner are old schoolers. I’m a old schooler myself and back in the 90’s when you had a big D1 recruit on a team they dominated the game. They would score 30 plus a game no mater if they were doubled teamed or not. They stuck out like a sore thumb but times have changed. You look at the total makeup of Hefner and he has all the intangibles to become a big time player. He has a lot of things going for him that you can’t teach but he also has a lot of improving to do on the offensive end. He missed several layups, jumpers and free throws that he will have to learn to make if he’s going to have a successful college career which he’s capable of doing but he’s not there at this point. The bright side is he will have at least 4 more years to improve.
  21. I believe the boys had a lot more to do with it in this one. Great game plan but Gipson and Seymour stepped up. In every game you have to have a game plan and boys have to execute. Great game dogs!!!!
  22. I have to respectfully disagree on the college statement but agree with him being the most impactful bulldogs to come through there. I think the Southland conference was the right place for him. I honestly think him and the Lofton kid for PA are very similar. He has a big body, good rebounder and has good foot work but he’s a better free throw shooter than Weisbrod. The downside to both is there ball handling skills, there athletic ability and there ability to guard away from the basket. This part of the game for big men really isn’t exposed in high school because there guarding bigger guys 8 feet from the basket. It’s not there fault but guys who are 6”5 are forwards in college not post like they are in HS. This is not to say they can’t be successful in college because Weisbrod was but it wouldn’t of been that way if he played at a bigger school IMO.
