Wasn't that Lamar a #6 seed? They make a surprise run through the SLC tournament? Also, were you going to comment on anything else I mentioned? A&M-CC did not "drop" to SLC level. They lost Ronnie Arrow to South Alabama and then they hired a guy who was doing the wrong things, had an AD who was blind to the wrong things already happening there and it just spiraled downward. That program had major problems...

Considering all schools in Louisiana outside of LSU have budget problems pertaining to athletics, yes -- La Tech is down in the WAC because of the increased amount of their budget that must go towards travel. They also outsourced their marketing/sales in a 10 year deal and I'm not usually a fan of that because I think it cuts the amount of money coming in (from personal experiences). La-Lafayette is not faring well either. They have sports where the coaches must raise the scholarship money yearly to make things happen. They do not pay well and are under-staffed in quite a few areas unlike many football schools at that level. If Lamar is down in the "lowly" SLC, what were they during their time in the Sun Belt? Couldn't of been much better and that was before all those schools started playing some football in the Sun Belt and were not in a good situation football-wise.
-
How do you know Lamar can afford that? They are raising their budget so much as is with football...they'd need to raise it even more to participate in the WAC. Lamar wouldn't be in the WAC more than two or three seasons before La Tech jets out considering LU would have to wait awhile before they even left the SLC. La Tech...they don't want to be in the league and quite frankly, being in the WAC and the lack of success that has riddled their program since joining the conference, is not making them attractive. Their women's basketball program has fallen flat on it's face. Heck, the WAC even said that they are getting complaints about conference championships in Louisiana and Hawaii -- so that may stink for them even more...
-
Hope that SLC number continues to move up too! If Lamar went to the WAC as a non-football member, Lamar would get the boot from the SLC. I do not believe the conference is interested in a member who is half way in the door, half way out. I could verify the SLC by-laws (which the SLC is ignoring right now as it relates to the San Marcos situation -- come on Billy, make some noise of it!) and check it out... Centenary is not attractive by any means and UALR has a beautiful basketball facility, but needs help elsewhere. UTA needs to get a new basketball facility finalized before anyone pays attention...

Not so great on the men's side as of late. Like SFA, their strong suit is women's sports. This is all rubbish to talk about this anyway. UNLV is trying to start something when we all know that in the SLC -- Texas State-San Marcos is currently at the front of the line for an FBS move as things stand now.

History? Outside of golf, not so much since the 1980s. The Bobcats have much more appeal -- academically and athletically -- at this point and will continue to do so until LU can prove that they can consistently put a good product out in football (which includes butts in the seats, even if LU takes them on the chin at first) and/or develop their basketball program to new heights (attendance is there, results are not). The Commish of the SBC recently said that the conference has the "I-AA mentality". They'd like to break away from that and I think they'd rather stay away from I-AA (now FCS) programs unless they feel they can contribute football-wise and actually have an FBS mindset...San Marcos can not contribute football-wise despite having an FBS mindset. All their new FBS programs from FCS have done something in FCS -- San Marcos has not nor has FIU (and well, we see how that is)...
-
Right now, Texas State-San Marcos has got to get the nod over Lamar for a "travel partner". Outside of riding the coattails of UTSA into the C-USA, this would be the Bobcats best chance at FBS as the Sun Belt (as it stands) has no interest in them or any SLC program -- they are too busy fighting the stigma that is associated with them being the "I-AA" of FBS.

For Lamar soccer team, a change of course
TexasTerror replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I like this guy...getting various resources to help him out in getting his program ready, whether staff from the KIN department or the track and field coach. That's clever...good hire, Lamar! SLC soccer product needs to improve and we need people who think outside the box to make it happen. -
The roster has grown...highlighted by two GKs and the appearance of some freshmen. [Hidden Content]

I thought it said he attempted to get them and they took too long...? Or did I read something wrong? The world of scheduling is neat. You never know what's going on behind the scenes. Most fans just see the final schedule and don't know much of the negotiations and what teams could end up on the slate...

Thanks to the increased amount of high-profile out of conference wins and an improved RPI -- the Southland is the fastest rising low-major conference in the country. This is great to see that others are acknowledging the rise...a few more high-profile wins and if we can get them -- postseason wins -- would raise the bar even higher for the conference. SOUTHLAND - RISING Last year was the SLC's best season in recent memory.. and two of its best RPI seasons in the last decade have come in the past three years. SFA knocked off Oklahoma and NCAA Tournament team San Diego. Sam Houston beat higher-level programs like Texas Tech, Saint Louis, and Fresno. And those teams didn't even win the conference, as Texas-Arlington took the honors. While an overall conference RPI of 19 might not seem amazing, it represents a major improvement for a league that has barely outperformed the independents in the past ten years. [Hidden Content]

Lamar 1989 Football Video - SHSU
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The 1988 SHSU win over Lamar is one of 29 selections from a 26 year period for SHSU's "greatest game" in the NCAA (we were NAIA before 1982)... [Hidden Content] -
Check this out, ABR3 and let me know what you think... [Hidden Content]

Lamar 1989 Football Video - SHSU
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
SHSU has announced that the archive footage will increase to 300+ videos. Look for more Lamar-SHSU videos to be available soon. Also, they are going to be putting all team sports (VB, softball, baseball, hoops and football) on the web site from now on. This was smart, just very smart... [Hidden Content] -
Then you get a ample serving of awful officiating -- almost cost SHSU (at TSU) and TXST (at PVA&M) last year. There's other problems associated with playing with the schools on the hardwood, but I'll refrain...

Key word was "known". Not all the schools have announced schedules. If I am not mistaken, only three (UTA, Lamar and McNeese) have. McNeese has the best one IMO at this point with a great balance of competition and winnable games plus most Div I home games. Lamar has more attractive opponents and UTA's leaves a lot to be desired...

2012: Would UNT come to Beaumont?
TexasTerror replied to texasstud28's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
When you guys are starting to pay attention to FCS when the Cards on the gridiron, you'll understand... The College Sporting News/Any Given Saturday partnership does a lot more good for FCS than you'd imagine. The AGS top 25 poll even gets in press releases and the preseason poll makes it into media guides. A fan message board with a top 25 poll doing that? Yep -- and it's a more accurate and fare assessor than Sports Network (media), SME (broadcasters) and CCA (coaches) and has been proven as such year and year again. -
Lamar and SHSU have done the best in that category...SHSU has had Fresno State, Central Florida and Texas Tech plus a Wisconsin-Milwaukee team that made some NCAA noise just prior to coming to Huntsville. Lamar has had Texas Tech, BYU, Oral Roberts and Wyoming. Here's a list of known Div I home games at SLC venues OOC home games... UNC-Greensboro at Central Arkansas St. Bonaventure at Central Arkansas Tennessee-Martin at Central Arkansas Denver at Lamar Texas Tech at Lamar Florida Atlantic at McNeese Louisiana Tech at McNeese Samford at McNeese New Orleans at Nicholls State Miami (OH) at Northwestern State North Texas at Sam Houston State Texas Southern at Sam Houston State New Orleans at Texas State-San Marcos

More than likely, Roc is looking for home-and-home series. The SWAC schools have upped their ante in terms of game day guarantees in recent years and unless you give them a home-and-home (which is not ideal for many reasons), it's not a good idea. Bet UTPA requests a return date too and for those who have been to Edinburg, it's not worth anyone's while!

2012: Would UNT come to Beaumont?
TexasTerror replied to texasstud28's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Both positive and negative remarks...just as you'd come to expect on this board. Lots of news articles posted (when HouTexan does not beat me to it), talk about the expansion of the SLC, coaches, facilities, recruiting, etc. -
SHSU has released a video library which includes games as far back at the 1980s. Amongst this selection is the 41-0 drubbing over the Bearkats by the Cards from Sept. 23, 1989. [Hidden Content]

Anyone "can"...you guys got a road to UT-Arlington as your second game. That'll be tough...

2012: Would UNT come to Beaumont?
TexasTerror replied to texasstud28's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I post everything from every SLC board -- from transfer information, to facility upgrades and more. AGS is a community, the best FCS community on the net and the poll -- the AGS Poll -- does a better job than any other poll, Sports Network, Coaches, etc because we are a well-informed group of individuals from a cross-section of the country. -
Just giving ABR3 a hard time. Bet he didn't even realize that the roster was lacking heavily..
