I've been told different, but I'll assume it's somewhere in the middle.

I would agree with who the new coach will probably be.... As for as how it got to that point was a discussion of where the basketball program is at was made before this coach was even hired BUT again if you aren't going to pay the money that was asked before this hire was made you find yourself where you are at now. It is very unfortunate this coach ended like this, but it was brought up during the hiring time last year. Not defending either one, just simply saying the ones that lose because of these type situations are the seniors that worked to get to their senior year. Unfortunately, you either have the money to get a good coach or you don't.

Like, a motivational speaker? I'm not sure I understand.

No.... this is what started the conversation and someone having to have a sit down because the person had nothing to do with school and would come in and pretty much take over the practices. Shortly after is when some of the older boys left the team, mine wouldn't have left (that's the parent's fault) if he was still there but I would have had a serious conversation with the appropriate people about some of the things that were said, and the coach let it happen. If you came to any of the games, then you knew the coaching knowledge was lacking in several areas of the court. All coaches have to learn somewhere but usually it starts as an assistant and not the head coach. Evadale needs to change a few things and pay for a quality coach if that is what they are wanting, obviously the money you offer limits what you can afford as they just learned. Hey, my son graduated so it wasn't my issue just felt bad for several of the players during the game.

  3. There was a lot more to it. I went to several games and witnessed several things. Even asked why he was leaving a player in with 3 fouls in tart of second Qtr, he turned and said are you serious I didn’t realize he had 3 fouls and called time out to get him out. The call to remove him was made right after the season started because of some things that were said to the team players and him having someone else come in at practice and talk to them and somewhat coach them. Several complaints were made and it was addressed with him. Also lost several of the older players because of it, why we finished with several underclass man playing. There is something to say about a coach that has been with several teams in a very short time and most of them for 1 season. He seemed like a very nice guy but I have been around basketball all my life and I told my wife after the second game he will never make it as a coach. To win district wasn’t that hard considering most of the other schools lost players and district was weak other than West Hardin and Evadale had enough talent to pull it out.

So the parents wanted him (and their own children) to lose in order to accommodate the principal wanting to hire her brother?  That makes no sense to me and I would bet there is much more to this story.  I'm sure someone will fill us all in soon!

The talent may not be as good as many think. A lot of the starters come from Silsbee, Buna, Lumberton and Vidor. One person told me that eight of the nine starters on this years baseball team came from outside the district. This does not always make the natives happy. As I was told more than once they are happy to have someone come in and rebound and play defense but when it is time to shoot the best thing is to throw the ball to little Johnny.

This statement is somewhat true but for the most part several of them have been going to Evadale school for years and a couple of them were on JV the past few years. My son graduated in 2020 and started played varsity all 4 years basketball and baseball; a few of the kids you are referring to played varsity with my son a couple of years, they just didn't start because they were young and we had 8 returners his junior year and 7 his senior year. The transfers have been coming for several years but as for as the baseball team at least up until my son graduated they had the same varsity team all 4 years with a couple each year that would get added to the mix to offset the graduates. Football has been the major team where the transfers started and played a lot. Several grades had very limited boys that played sports and lived in the Evadale area. Sons class had one of the larger groups of boys in the class and only 3 or them played and started all sports. So without transfers Evadale would have been like Burkeville and only suiting out about 15 kids on the field during football.

    Disadvantages of small schools.

I believe this district will be competitive but I foresee Hull Daisetta making a pretty good run this year compared to years past. They have a player who was all region last year and some really good underclassmen that allow them to play fast.

I have to agree with you in regards to Hull. I figure Deweyville and depending on which kids come from Memorial Sabine Pass will be the 3 top teams. Evadale should get 4th easily but they just don't have that go to leading scorer this year. I have watched a couple of their games and lack of leadership between players on the court is hurting them. BUT you never know with how covid effects each week and every game. My sons college basketball team has 20 players and the last 2 games they have played has been with 12 and 11 consecutively because of covid and the quarantine protocol. The virus has definitely given ever team a handicap when it comes to game days. Supposedly they will have everyone back this week when they play Letourneau and Tarleton. Their team has been testing twice a week for covid. The world of sports has its challenges right now.

My how times have changed.  When my boy played Evadale won district all 4 years, and besides WH for 1 or 2 games out of the 4 years were never really pressured.  Be interesting to see how things play out.

West Hardin want finish first. They lost most all of their team to graduation; all 5 starters.

  8. Unless something changes it could be Isabell. He was the backup last year and did a good job while in there. They have lost a lot of players and not sure if got any others to replace, so this roster is going to be crazy. I heard Braden Montalvo transfer was not accepted this year so he may not be in Evadale. There were a lot of transfers that were not accepted this year from what I heard.

I was listening to the game...it sounded like it could have been 85-0. And those poor kids are about to play the Cats.

You’re exactly right. I guess every time we scored seven runs we would just walk off the field and let them have the offense no matter how many out weird. Oh to be a good game between Kirbyville and Evadale later on tonight
