How much time will Coach Barbay be given to turn Warren around?  It doesn't look very good at this point.

You could have Tom Landry back from the dead go in and coach the warriors and you would still get the same results they have gotten under Barbay and previous coach Ramsey.  Warren is in a district where they have the least talented team and very tealnted district.  Do you honestly think Warren will ever be able to compete with Newton,Anahuac, or EC?  Even Buna?  or Hardin? Can't blame the coach always.  You still have to have the tools in the shed to do the job.  A good carpenter has a hammer and nails right?  Samething in coaching.  No talent...very little chance of success! Well said.  Numerous posters keep hoping for more weight room time, better offseason program, and numerous other things that might make some improvement, but plain and simple, Warren does not field the same athletes that these other schools do.  It has been and will be hard for them to compete, especially in this district.  Tough, too tough.
  2. AP came to town last year with a great game plan and absolutely shut down a Cougar offense that had played Newton a great game and after the loss to AP, beat the eventual district champs in EC.  If our game plan takes that into consideration and goes for some suprises and keeps the Panthers off balance, we stand a great chance.  But with that said, speed kills.  It has always been Buna weakness and still is.  We have a couple of backs with speed and looked good on a number of sweeps against Newton.  Mix that in along with a few passes, then we should hold our own.  It should be a good game, the meetings in 2008 and 2009 were decided by 1 TD.  GO COUGARS!!
  3. I think we stuck with what has worked for us all year long, smashmouth football, run it right at you and Newton, well coached, shut it down for the most part.  Williams still got his yards, not as many as he has, but this was the best team we will face all year long.  That being said, Lopez and Burch both were able to get to the ends a few times and pick up good yardage.  I was hoping we would go back to that more often than the pass.  Newtons secondary was just too fast and closed in on every pass that was thrown almost picking off a couple balls.  As far as coaches, I am fully behind them as everyone else should be.  But if you are going to blame someone, I am sure the coaches would rather you blame them long before the players.  The truth of the matter is that after last weeks miracle finish, anything less than a W, was going to be a let down.  Starting district play with Newton is a terrible draw anyway, they are a contender if not champion every season.  Coogs, you played hard and never gave up.  Keep up the good work and the playoffs will be yours again!  GO COUGARS!!!
  4. Hardin got a big win Friday night by winning game 1 of district.  Putting up 48 points after only scoring 21 the first 3 games?  Says good things for Hardins' O, but bad things about Kountzes D (I know the Lions were missing a few starters).  Buna met the best team they will all season long Friday night (no offense AP, but Newton is strong) and as usual, speed kills Buna.  Hardin and Buna have had some high point games in the past and this one could be another scoreboard breaker.  GO COUGARS!!!
  5. 1. Newton  (strong on both sides of ball, some things will never change)
    2. Buna  (great offensive team, good play calling, 'D' needs to stand strong)
    3. Anahuac  (never count the speedsters and smart coaching out)
    4. EC  (solid RB, supporting cast is slowly maturing)
    5. Kountze / Woodville  (both improved, could shock and suprise some)
    6. Warren  (lots of heart, good coaching)
    7. Hardin  (too young, will improve as they mature)
Spots 2-4 will be a dogfight all year, each week will prove more crucial than the last.  However, I do believe Newton is a much improved team over last season (not that they were bad last year, still a playoff entrant).  Their D seems to be standing up strong so far.  This has been a district that anybody can win any week of the season.  Good luck to all.  GO COUGARS!!!
  6. Red Brute answers his own question in another thread on here (Buna versus Newton).  Sounds like someone needing a slap on the back and an 'atta boy'.  Maybe hoping someone would say his name as being the best.  Of course, Newton is always good.  Yes, teams will hang with them in district, did last year.[quote name="Red Brute" post="1061248" timestamp="1316533583"]
Whats your opinion on Newton for the season? Are they a good team? Who are their best players? How far will they go? Will anybody hang with them in district?  :)

I am curious as to Coach Stump's plan for the future (present) at QB at Westbrook...Is it time to start grooming an heir apparent to Reyes?  Sorry I don't want anyone to inherit from the current "protege".

My guess is that this one is a kid or a parent of a kid, who might play QB.  Or could just be sour grapes...or fair weather fan...or just a non- supporter of the Brook.  Either way, should be ignored.  Thanks for supporting the team.
