Junior guard Asia Mitchell is just 17 points shy of scoring 1000 for her career at JHS!  So proud of this kid and how she has led our team this year.    I have looked back and tried to see if Jasper has ever had a 1000 point scorer... I am sure we have but not in recent years.

This season Asia is averaging 17 points,  5 rebounds, 1.2 assist, and 3 steals a game.

She was RoyReportMedia player of the week for January 1st and VYPE mid-season MVP.

She is also just a great kid and a pleasure to coach!  Straight A student ranked #23 in her class!

Great testament to putting "self" aside and working together as a group to achieve a goal. Congratulations PNG Ladies, it is a great accomplishment, and good luck moving forward in the playoffs.

She also is a fantastic rebounder who then can take off in an instant and go coast to coast with the dribble to either score or drop a dime in a spot you would not think she would be able to pass to. Her number of points off of offensive rebounds has to be huge. More known as an offensive player, she can play some pretty stout D when in the mood, lol.

these rankings are done by one guy, who hasnt seen everyone play.   They are based on win/loss, not margin or where the game was played.   Not very accurate, but good for fans and players to see where they stack up...   BU, Woodville and HJ are all about where they should be right now.  All three need to just keep their head down and do work... one game at a time...  The end of season ranking is the one that is remembered and the one that matters!  Those are the ones that produce banners!

I can confirm it also, as I posted in the Lumberton vs PAM game from the BH tourney. My post was basically " how every offensive possession does not run thru #5 I will never understand".
My daughter played in same AAU Org with #5 and One Chance's daughter. I know first hand the skill level, the athletic ability that #5 brings to the court. She is a force if she would be utilized properly.
Good luck the rest of the season, and hang in there, lol.

Again, hard to know what really is happening at a game by just looking at the score. Was team missing 80% of their free throws and shot attempts, were the foul calls 2 to 1 in one teams favor, did fouls make key player(s) have to sit, were fouls not called at all, which would give less skilled team greater chance to stay in game against team with better basketball skill?
Lot of possible factors that would make a score appear to be closer than it "should". I do agree a win is a win, there are no extra credit style points.

It's not at all. This team haven't improved at at all since day 1. They play down to competition and if the record was kept for most turnovers in a season this team would shatter it. Nederland has more fundamentals basketball IQ then this team just lack the talent. The coach make ZERO adjustments and I don't think he comes into the game with a plan. But some how they are now 6-1.

For United, they have a pretty good shot. Region III-6A is kinda wide open but Cy Creek will be the big team to take down along with Katy, Summer Creek and Atascocita.
BH isn't really the same team with entering post-Charli Collier era but need things to go their way to go deep.
H-J are probably one of the regional favorites with Midlothian Heritage in the region. Houston ISD could see a regional tournament team in North Forest or Yates. Wheatley lost to Yates on Tuesday pretty handily and are not the same team from last year. Silsbee could be in the mix also.
Woodville are probably in the same boat at H-J but they are in a deeper region with Keene, Blooming Grove, who are experienced and have all 5 starters back from last year. Franklin is in the top 5 and playing good ball. Buffalo are strong with a new coach leading the way. OF, IMO, are the sleeper in the region.
I would keep an eye on Hull-Daisetta in 2A, lots of experience back from last year and in the preseason, there were whispers of them going to be good and having a deep run but will have to run against a team in 22-2A in the area round, most likely.

BC some nice outside shooting and rebounding, and Lumberton missed too many free throws was the difference imo.
Good Hard clean effort by both squads.

It is, but it is ESPN3 material compared to the ESPN PrimeTime matchup of HJ vs Silsbee. In all seriousness, I hope all the young ladies are able to have fun in these meaningful, competitive games, and that the games are free from parent noise and vitriol from the stands. Just sucks all the fun out of watching the games.
Not to leave any district game out, in the LCM vs WOS matchup I will say that I am a WOS fan myself for this Friday.......

Amen, this I guess is where I am going with part of this. Bad officiating to me punishes the more skilled players, due to the unskilled just playing street (Gorilla) ball and not getting called for it, force these coaches to teach players a more fundamental game.
I hear it over and over by people that come and watch a girls game for the first time, “Geez, girls basketball is brutal, these refs don’t call anything!”
I want to also say, I understand officiating is very difficult and they are not going to see every foul, double dribble, carry and travel. I just wish they would try and eliminate the physicality of the game. And yes, lol, this would help PNG’s game, but I truly and honestly just want to try and protect the girls from injuries that maybe could have been prevented. All I have to say on this subject as well.

I mentioned that above, that the lack of skill at a typical girls high school game makes the game hard to watch and harder to officiate. My daughter is fortunate to play with a great aau organization and watching one of those games versus a typical high school game is unbelievable. To use your analogy, if you watched one of her aau games, maybe you would leave with only a slight buzz, lol.
The main problem I have is that when the refs allow the overly physical play, it takes away what the skilled player (typically one who has spent many hours doing individual training, etc.) has worked on typically for their aau team. The lesser player in affect is rewarded for not being as good the skilled player. Just kind of frustrating.

As a coach, all you can do is
1.go to tournaments that allot enough time between games where they arent rushed.
    2. Play against quality teams that “know how to play” so that the games dont resemble rugby bu players that are unskilled.
    3. Teach kids how to negate that type of contact so that it does not become an issue.
Been there, done that... I fee your pain, but do t necessarily put it at the officials feet.  People that put on tournaments need three man crews, but alot of coaches use tournaments as fundraisers instead of a chance to compete and dont want to pay the extra money.
