  1. What HJ has going on right is very special and very rare, and should be viewed and enjoyed. What they have in terms of the combination of personnel and coaching skill level is extremely ATYPICAL for most girls programs at any level, save a few of the long standing programs in others parts of the state. As a player, my daughter has been fortunate enough to be taught by a group of coaches over the years who have instilled a "RESPECT EVERYONE, FEAR NO ONE" mindset. They have taught her that when you compete on the court every play, and you don't look at the scoreboard, you have played the game the right way. At that point, if a player has competed as hard as they can regardless the outcome, like Teddy Roosevelt said one is able to say, "It is not the critic who matters....."
  2. Lady Raiders are very fortunate to have a roster whose players all have well defined roles and play very hard trying to be good at those roles. That can be credited to the coaching staff I believe. It helps to a have a group of players that has played from Little Dribblers age, and to have four seniors and a junior that start, each of which has a unique skill set so that they ultimately compliment each others primary skill, and make the team stronger. Throw in some younger players whose games are growing, and you end up with a roster that will play very very hard.
  3. WO-S appears to me to be a younger team than last year's squad that was senior driven. Plus they are adjusting to a new coach as well. From film I have seen they look athletic and fly around the court. Lumberton is coming off being shut down from this quarantine protocol stuff, and won't have a lot of practice time to get back up to speed before Friday's game. WO-S will have to be ready on both sides of the ball, however, as Lumberton has shown that they can point some points on the board, albeit at a pace much less than the truly loaded HJ squad. Just my take, and I am glad to see the Lady Raiders back on the court.
  4. Quarantine for the varsity players ends today and they can be back at school starting tomorrow. They will be back at it tomorrow, preparing for WO-S on Friday at Lumberton.
  5. They beat Jasper 71-62 earlier this month, they scrimmaged BU the first action of the year and BU was Longer and more athletic overall and at a different level at that point, BU would be favored by 15-20 at this point imo, based on what i saw in the scrimmage and where Lumb is playing now. They have beaten Woodville and Buna also, and lost to Barbers Hill by 5, and that was a winnable game. HJ not in district since realignment, but they do play each other at Lumberton on 12/30. HJ will be heavy favorite with their loaded roster and college level coaching staff. Just glad they getting to play, hope the season keeps going.....
