  1. Don't want marshal law, but also don't want 5 different PD's handing out tickets on the same road. We have that in my area. Seems inefficient and a money grab. single payer health is about not trusting the private sector to put patient health over profits.
  2. Calling Liberals a hate group is really pushing reality to the extreme. They may disagree with your beliefs, but that doesn't mean they hate (isn't that same thing we hear from Conservatives). Perhaps we should define hate. The Righty's can't call their dogma a disagreement and then call the Lefty's dogma hate.
  3. Some of that wealth comes on the backs of everyone else. I don't dislike the ultra rich, but there used to be a time in this country where the wealthy paid their share (World War II). So kill off all the social programs and entitlements and base it on inefficiency or whatever you want, that scenario helps the rich more than anyone else.
  4. You really believe a group dedicated to hating based on race is going to be that pragmatic? Come on man. Liberals are not the world class haters. If you called them on something you felt was hate filled, they wouldn't have a clue why. Same thing can be found on the conservative side. Agree about Trump's movement. He pulled a lot of democrats too.
  5. I'd say you're biased on cops. We can figure out the tax thing (dirty word here). Local control is usually what's at the center of these corruption cases. Everyone knows each other. Some turn a blind. Others lose trust. If the military was locally controlled we'd have a lot of fluctuation in policy and performance.
  6. Some of these mascots are insensitive ...usually to Native Americans. Just because its been long accepted, doesn't make it right. Some of these schools work with local Native American groups like Florida State and I guess that helps. I just can't sign on to showing a depiction of a particular race on football helmets that happened to have been nearly wiped out by Western expansion. The Mississippi Cotton Pickers? The Texas Wetbacks? A part of our rich tradition, but hurtful.
  7. I agree. The only unprotected group is white males ...and we can thank some of those supremacist types for creating the conditions we have today. Not much need for a Civil Rights movement without lynching, segregation, and institutionalized biases. The next big shift in this whole discussion is for minorities to see their own prejudice/racist words and behaviors. It's been long accepted by some/many that minorities could never be racist because of the history of this country. Minorities pretty much had carte blanche to say whatever they wanted about whites because of the history (some based in well deserved guilt). Conversely if a white person dared to speak up...WHAM. Things are changing. I don't think this conversation was even possible 10 years ago you filthy crackers...lol.
  8. Agree that Liberals and Democrats use all the stereotypes of Republicans to energize and solidify their base. That's wrong and divides the country ...and loses elections. The Republicans (at least their advisers) were going on talk shows after the 2nd loss to Barak stating the horrible condition of the party and how they needed to be more inclusive. Make it a true big tent party. The Republicans can usually win on subjects like the economy and jobs ...they have to figure out a way to shed their image on race/gender/sexuality. Barack coming to work African American is all those hate groups need. Hypothetically he could have been the second coming of Reagan and the hate groups wouldn't see past skin color. It's sorta their job...lol.
  9. Surrre ...we don't have any officers keeping things in house. They love to snitch on each other. I'll agree that when you have a video or a really bad story, one cop won't lie for the other. I don't think all cops are corrupt, but we have too many daggone police departments. There's a difference between HPD and small town PD's. My understanding is larger departments have more resources, better training, more diversity, and so on. If conservatives want to start consolidating something, lets start with how our policing is set up. No reason to have a local Humble, TX police force with their own leadership when you have Houston (and several other) PD's right across the street. Centralize the leadership of the PD's and get a more consistent performance. I'm not saying fire cops, just put them under fewer umbrellas.
  10. Obamacare ain't for everybody. It was to cover the gap between those that have good employee sponsored care and those that don't. Some of these people are the hard working minimum wage crowd, also students (who now can stay on their parent's plan...I love this), and some that had crappy plans and wanted to shop around (typically contract workers). Of course when everyone got insurance, the surge of claims didn't tie out with the current level of rates ...rates went up. Employer sponsored plans run by the private sector is not the answer. There's too many getting the shaft that get left out in the cold and rely on emergency room care. I've previously said the biggest issue with getting a public run plan is the huge fear over another entitlement that will of course raise taxes. We all know the 1%-ers have been hell bent on not paying a nickle more for the greater good of the society...even to fix roads and bridges. They want to cut from social programs to pay for everything. This is about ideology and not healthcare. Conservatives don't want to be responsible for anyone else's problems. There is real evidence that enabling bad decisions with a federal program makes things worse. On the flip side, we need ditch diggers, waitresses, and so on. Not everyone in society will make it to the middle class or above. Is all about the type of country we want to live in. We need to find the right mixture of personal accountability and fairness.
  11. Condescending is the key word IMO when it comes to that tribe. Interesting comparison with the Civil War and current times. I can't fully agree because of the big elephant in the room during that time. I had an excellent conversation in this forum about the civil war. I don't believe (nor is it true) that the Civil War started solely over slavery. Slavery was a major point for the Radical Republicans/abolitionists (like Gen. Davis) and Southern states didn't like government interference in their way of life (which included keeping slaves). Regarding General Davis I threw his name out there to see what response I'd get. The history book I read stated Texans hate(d) the guy. Partly for being a big government proponent and also because he was basically forced upon Texans due to Reconstruction. Many believed his administration was corrupt and the limitations on the governor found in the current Texas constitution have roots in the response to ousting Gen. Davis. Them Nazis, supremacists, and paramilitary groups have been indirectly re-energized by Trumps run, particularly his stance on immigration. I'm not blaming Trump for firing them up, but you take a 2 term African American President and mix it with some of Trumps proposed policies and you get some Hitler youth all lathered up. Those guys have to stop mixing in with conservative groups or at least break the perception that they're mixed in. If the mass of Liberals would read some of the well articulated points expressed in this forum, the discussion would be more about policy and less about hot button divisive issues.
  12. Sure did. Quit trying to throw me in the liberal pot and start telling me how you admire one General Edmund J. Davis.
  13. Who's group? You're second statement fails the sniff test.
  14. Probably doesn't feel good to be prejudged based on one small segment of your group. I heard a lot of "red-neck, Black-hating, Mexican-hating, racists, bible-thumping, gun-clinging klansmen " from people up North (some in my family) but having come here and getting to know many Texans, it's clearly false. Sorta like the lesson I get from hanging out with conservatives. I had some light bulb moments that dispelled prior beliefs.
  15. Easy answer. Not true, but see it as you will. Those high bred Northern anglos probably have some of those prejudices tho. My point of that rant is don't pile everyone into one group because its just not that easy. The topic I was on was prejudice so I gave you a short dissertation as to probable causes. "Seeing everything by race" is a conservative talking point. I could do without racist period. Not just the liberal ones.
  16. Off the subject even further, here's an interesting insight (IMO) from a Northern transplant. What I've noticed here in Texas is we pretty much divide people up into three groups: White, Black, Mexican (or is that Messcan...kidding). Would you agree? So if you're from Cuba or Puerto Rico once you arrive in Texas you're pretty much assumed to be Mexican (and that pisses off Cubans and Puerto Ricans). Whites from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds (Germans, Nordics) are just white people. Blacks are a bit easier but we have African Americans and a pretty large group of people recently moving here from Africa who really don't share the same culture with AA's and also some from various islands (also with different cultures). Things are more complex up North because whites there typically identify with there ethnic heritage. Italian and Irish are the biggest, but also Anglos to an extent. All other minorities do the same. So we have pecking orders and inter-racial tension within each group. I believe some of the elitist northern whites mainly come from your "high-bred" anglo-whites. They pretty much look down their noses at everyone and can certainly come off as acting superior to Southern whites. This same kind of interplay goes on with blacks. You have African Americans who are typically educated, law abiding, and upwardly mobile (some here might call them "upidy"). Then you have black folk that shy from white people and just want to go along to get along. Then there's the n-word (the one that ends in "a" and not "er"). I'll call them "ninjas." African Americans can't stand ninjas. Sorta like how Cubans and Puerto Ricans can't stand Mexicans (generally speaking). Ninjas get all the news time and create trouble for the Martin Luther King African Americans. Some will make the mistake that ALL blacks are like the ninjas. They are not. Africans recently here from Africa tend to look down on all varieties of U.S. born blacks. So that's you're racist rant. Learn.
  17. Of course. Next question. This isn't only a problem of one group. I said WE ALL do it. Its just as wrong for a black person to say "all white people are xyz..." Completely false.
  18. You got the wrong implication. You can have zero problem associating with, living next to, or working with people of other races, but when you see a Black guy in the head job ...some people will look find only faults associated with their prejudgments about that scenario. "There he goes with the welfare and entitlements...just like I thought. You know how THOSE people are." That's really not racist and I understand that too many will be quick to say it's racist. It's really prejudice. I also said you can disagree all day long. That's normal political discourse. I have issues with extreme statements because those are usually found coming out the mouths of the ones on the fringes. You seem to like to call "spin." Seems too easy to me.
  19. Nope. They might be prejudice and biased tho. Racist are the fellars that oppose race mixing, want to separate their tribe from all others. David Duke is a racist. Farrakhan is a racist. Most of us fall into the prejudice or biased camp. It's really human nature. So if you see a group of 10 young black males hanging around your corner, what are some of the thoughts we have? Or if there's a group of white guys with bald heads and combat boots on? Some of this is based on past associations and our instincts are to protect ourselves. But in the two scenarios above the group of kids could belong to a church missionary group. The white guys could have shaved their heads to support cancer awareness. We all judge on physical queues and sometimes that gets us into trouble. It also can cause us to only see negatives and not good.
  20. The ppl calling you racist can own that card. I get that ppl are called racist unfairly when they disagree. It's an easy way to Label and dismiss. Sorta like calling liberal or race card.
  21. I don't think he's either...but certainly not the worst. Guys like Nixon and Johnson can run for the worst.
  22. Please with the race card. An overly used ploy to dismiss biased attitudes. His work justifies his legacy. The good and the bad.
  23. He wasn't the best, case closed. Ppl that say he was the best never read a history book.
