Finally, it was tasteless of the TD to make the statements he did at the opening ceremonies. How could he even think that a UIC could be responsible for a National tournament being cancelled, but to stand up and make that statement shows the type TD the tournament was dealing with. color]

Everyone was warned. Terrible thing that this had to take place in Beaumont. This guy was not capable of handing a tournament this size and now it reflects on Beaumont. Darby is was not Tiger 12's and any other locals job to jump in. One week before this tournament, I called RL and asked who the UIC was. He told me it was a local guy and gave me his number, That guy knew nothing about it, nothing at all. You don't try and get a UIC one weekl before a tournament. The one he ended up with left Friday night. I also know that TD was not around when teams went hunting him. Very unfortunate situation that had to happen in Beaumont. There was one team from FW that traveled in had motel and did not play a game because of scheduling. As far as a local forfeiting a game because of umpiring, Did you see some of it? They were making up rules.

JT and others: I just got off phone with UIC. He has 45 umpires, admittedly not the kind he would like to have for a tourney of this size and large 18U count. He thinks things will work out though. Since tourney starts on a Friday, he ways he will be short on that day. I have agreed to assist Friday only if needed. I too would like to see the thing fly what with the team count that is contained in the tourney.

My comments were made after I was asked to call in the tournament and the conditions explained to me, by the then expected UIC. When he told me, furnish my own room, my own water, and that a maintenance crew would not be available, I declined the offer. Now that the TD has realized that the tournament could not happen without umpires, his tune has changed. I also know what he eventually had to fork out to the current UIC. All things a possible if one stops to realize just what is needed to maintain peace and harmony.

To run a tournament as big as is claimed, 12 fields, at least 3 umpires per field, that is 36. Usually a few will be able to work only certain hours, so 45 is more realist. The guy UIC'g it, told me he had 15. That covers 5 fields. BHBLUE, had nothing to do with attempting to shut down the tournament. The first UIC contacted was told, NO Rooms, No Water, No Field Maintenance, and that the teams themselves could bring in their own water. I can see teams paying $15.00 to an airlines for the extra baggage, water coolers. Neither did the TD want to pay the extra money for the temp fences. [really no beig deal, just another case] No one umpire had anything to do with attempting to shut down the tournament. They just were not going to work for free. Buying your own water, meals and originially hotel rooms, then driving from residence to the park is one hell of an expense. Don't hammer BHBLUE, he was already committed before all this came about.

I just got a call from the individual that will now be the UIC of the tournament. Mike Gorgran. Seems as though the TD has had a change in his thinking. Rooms will be provided to umpires, water and gatorade also. Water for the teams. No, I will not be there.

There are a lot of coaches that have their personal funds tied up into this tournament. That along with trying to pickup players for player shortages means we , the teams, need some answers today. If we are paying $200 to play, $30 for umpires, and $10 at the gate I would expect water in the dugouts, field crews, and happy well qualified umpires. No, actually the teams that entered the tournament are doing the paying. I have TD'd and UIC'd. That is why the entry fee is collected, to foot the bills. What? A thread that was not locked concerning this top notch extravaganza

All other associations PAY for the rooms. $75.00 a pop is five free games. 3 day tournament = two nights now $150, and ten games. So umpires that travel are out $4.00 a gallon on gas, $150 dollars. They would be in the hole before they start.

Well put. Teams that were beaten by a beefed up GCB definiately deserved better. This weekend was extremely humid and HOT. No team wanted to play extra games.

Well, if you were an umpire, living 65 miles away and having to make round trips each day because TD does not want to put you in a hotel, and does not want to furnish you with liquid, [water, gator- ade, or Weeds favoriate], and all this had to come from your pocket, would you call? If so, I have lots of extra gear I can loan you. ;D Most of us don't do it for the money, we love the game. However, we don't want to lose money and work all day in 97 + degrees without being furnished gatorade, water, then a place to shower and rest. None were offered, in fact we were told none would be available.

Laren Parker will be available soon. She is one of the best. Don't know if Holly Tanersly, or M. Verde have classes, but both are extremely good hitters and have probably the best swings in the game.

Congratulations to the entire team and coaches. Sounds like you had a great tournament, but then that seems to be the norm for Crush teams. Cannot go anywhere that at least one team is in tournament and there on Sunday. good Job team.
