  1. Check with Rowdies. Since they are breaking up, they probably have a couple looking for a team. They had a few good coaches also.
  2. You told me you were running this. ;D
  3. Good start Ladies/Trout. Is that the White Water Sharks? Good Luck. Will be watching.
  4. Hey #13, let me know what you think of the CA Cruisers' coach. He and I went 'round and 'round a couple of years ago at the Batbusters' tournament in L.A. He has even less respect for umpires than your buddy Ken Glass. Fortunately, my head was harder than his. You are just intimidatable...... : Is that a word? Must be, I used it. Look in the official scorekeepers book. ;D ;D
  5. I was glad to visit with Lana. I owed her an apology, which she gracefully accepted. Her senior year in HS, I called several games behind her. She told me she would be the next ULL catcher. At that time, I thought differently. Got my ULL cap, she and a couple of the other ULL players autographed it. I also ump'ed behind a red-shirted ULL catcher from the Rebels. I asked her if she played a different position, cause unless grades or injury came into to play, she would be drawing splinters. [God forbid]She is a middle infielder. A great gal. The whole Rebel team was a joy to umpire for. Also, a pitcher #21 for ULL, [i can't spell her name, but a great gal] reminded me of a do-over call I made when she was pitching in a college exposure tournament against OCG. A high pitch I called for a strike, then immediately called time and hollar "Do Over, that was a terrible call." She played for Mike Hardy and the LAUnited. Mike was laughing so hard he could not argue the call.
  6. Thank You Sir. A great bunch of players, coaches and fans. Enjoyed every game....
  7. I was fortunate enough to have the plate in two of their last games. Against a very good La. Rebels, Rowdie was outstanding. If not mistaken, the final was 1-0. Rebels had bases loaded late, with no outs and Rowdie held tough. Against a La. Patroits team, they jumped on the quick and often. This game became ugly on the part of the La. Patroits fans, coaches and 1 player. I probably should have tossed the catcher and her coach along with the entire fan section. Catcher questioned all outside and inside pitches, [6-8"] inside or outside and was always freezing glove and looking at me. The game in around the 5th inning got so loud, all the UIC and Staff came down to watch. UIC's knew the pitches were wide. The Patriot batters should have known I would not call it, cause when they batted and a wide pitch was thrown, it was a ball. In, I believe the 6th, coach went to the pitching area. I went with him cause things were really heating up. When we got there he told me I was costing him a game. Catcher gave a couple of comments as well. At this point I told him I did not need him, his catcher or fans if this arguing balls and strikes continued, he and the catcher will be departing. He told, loudly, his pitcher, just throw the damn ball over the plate, cause we aren't going to get it any other way. He left. Rowdies first batter after the conference was HBP. Naturally both Rowdie coaches, as they should have, called time and approached. Mr. Hamilton stated that he had a problem with what had just taken place, as did Head coach. I told them that intend was hard pressed to prove in this case and that I know Patriots coach did not, during the conference mention "hitting" a batter. It was ugly, I apologize, but as a team and fans you were great, and congratulations on a very well played tournament. BHBLUE, I know, I let it go to far.
  8. Thanks Weed. They definitely needed the pub. They are a great bunch and proved that by being the last of GT teams to remain active in the NAFA hunt for gold. GReAT JOB LADIES.
  9. As far as I know the team is still planning to play in NAFA. They have practice tonight and Sunday. Why the edit??? Nevermind, you don't have to answer. Inquiring mind?
  10. Kelly HS coach, Robert Armentrout. Pretty good ol boy.
  11. Don't know if they folded, but they are listed to play in the 18U tournament in Sulphur. Is that Mader?
  12. Thats why we never did that, not even in HS. Not sure why Texas HS allows it, when no one else does. On the sheet NFHS sent me to fill out for suggestions as for changes, that was one of mine. Do Away With The Step Back rule. Talked to several others that received the same survey, and a lot of them also included that for a change. However, new changes are out and that is not one of them.
  13. WAY TO GO MOMA.....Hi AM
  14. They do have their stuff togetner. Have sooo many teams, makes the Major league rosters look small.
  15. My last word on this, unless asked a direct question. If someone decides to run a tournament this size, they need to start working on it about 3 months be- fore the event. If they have been around tournaments, then they should know, most areas do not have enough umpires available to call a tournament of this magnitude. Running 12 fields takes, at the least 36 umpires if 2 on 1 off schedule. 48 umpires if 1 on 1 off is the schedule. Naturally you will need extras, something always happens that some have to leave for one reason or another. Not even Houston has these numbers, so umpires will be brought in and DO need rooms. They don't get gas money and cannot afford to drive back and forth. As was stated in previous post on this forum, water coolers were not available unless the teams themselves brought them in along with ice and filled them. Nothing for the umpires, except some generous fans and coaches who did have the coolers. Everyone knows what the temperature were, water was a MUST for umpires. If an umpired worked until say 11:00 p.m. and arrived at 8:00a.m., that's a long day. He will need something close by to shower, and rest. If a TD loses money on a tournament, then he has not managed things properly. The entry fees he receives should easily cover the expenses, since umpires fees are paid by the coaches/teams. If a gate is involved, then his income is even more. check things out, make the arrangements far in advance, not the week before or of the tournament. It is also the duty of the TD to have the brackets updated throughout the tournament. One individual cannot run a tournament. They need a staff, something that was obviously missing in this persons agenda. Running the brackets is not the UIC"s job. UIC is there to assigned umpires to the fields and handle any protest that arise. Last, but not least. Lee Barber and Kandice stepped up and did an excellent job at attempting to up- right a sinking ship. I have worked with both of them, and their hearts are always in the right place. To Lee and Kandice, GOOD JOB, and hope to see U both in Sulphur.
  16. So, if a runner touches a dirty 1st base on her way to 2nd has she missed it? How about a batter who steps on a dirty plate and hits the ball? Is she not out? Enlighten me. My understanding is that there was no question about her foot being over the plane of the rubber. I may be mistaken. But this talk of waiting for the bases to be full or empty before calling an IP is a little disturbing. Help me out with that too if you will. A.M. has always done this. There is no intentions to trick or decieve anyone, especially the umpires. It is just a thing with her. Same as most picters can pitch the ball they brung, and you know how that is.
  17. Not his first rodeo, and won't be his last, unless everyone stays away from any of his functions.
  18. I can't say that these guys didn't tried to warn me personally when this thing was first announced. Ya'll gonna get me in trouble with EastTx again. :'( We all know it was you that instigated this whole thing.
  19. From what I heard in Beaumont the both 12U Crush-Collins coaches got chunked and News came about as close to getting thrown as you can get. I would have figured he would have been first. :D
  20. You killing me WS. ;D
  21. I saw him at the Beaumont Hooter's at 10 p.m. Sunday buying rounds for the house. Whether Slugo is kidding or not, Rusty has done this before in Houston. East Tx can defend him all he wants, but this guy is serious trouble with a capital T.
  22. Congratulations to all these teams, especially the Shockers. SJ, get a new batting glove.
