  13. A&M players report for camp Brown ineligible; Williams awaits OK from NCAA COLLEGE STATION — The Texas A&M Aggies reported for fall camp with few surprises Sunday afternoon. They hit the field for the first time this afternoon in preparation for the upcoming season. "It's exciting. You live with a lot of anticipation for this day as a football coach," said Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione. "I know the guys, just talking to them (Sunday), are excited. "You feel a little left out when you can't work with them in the summer in the weight room and things like that." Franchione said almost all 105 players showed up Sunday, with senior safety Japhus Brown, who has been ruled academically ineligible, among the missing. Also not on campus was freshman quarterback Brandon Williams, who is still going through the NCAA Clearinghouse process. Junior college transfer David Tufuga is excused while completing summer school course work at Snow College in Utah. Franchione said he expects Tufuga, a defensive lineman, in camp within the next two to four days. The Aggies did report one coach short, with assistant head coach/running backs coach Kenith Pope temporarily sidelined after having surgery last week. "He's going to be fine and will be back before too long," Franchione said.
