You have ZERO clue. WOS, although talent doesnt hurt, wins for one reason. Attitude. With that said, we are raised in West Orange with a certain mindset. That mind set is we will win.....always and will do whatever it takes to do it. I.E. work our butts off year around. You ask any former WOS player that has played College ball. My first College practice was a huge surprise to me. I couldn't believe how lax it was compared to what I came from in H.S. Thought someone was joking or something.

I can see both sides of the argument of a coach only staying 1 year.

Usually I would be on the side that 1 year isn't enough time to commit to turning a program around. But if things were as some said and he wasn't getting support from the administration, being told how to run his practices, etc. you can't blame him for wanting out.

You're right, it could change, but probably won't vary that much. But there is a lot of talk right now about 6 and 5A being split into divisions like the smaller classifications. So that would change a lot.

Texas City is in a tough position. Financially it does not make sense to have a 1800 student high school and a 400 student high school, but with the history of both La Marque and the rivalry it will more than likely not be a peaceful decision. La Marque has suffered with the academics and after the hurricane.
Right now if you consolidate Texas City and La Marque you have a small 6A school playing Dickinson and Clear Lake schools. I understand the concept of playing who is put in front of you, but the school and the community want to be successful in sports and UIL academics. In a district like that they would not be successful. Community pride comes from success in UIL in Texas. Then if you do consolidate what do you do with La Marque high school? Do you turn it into a 9th grade center or just sell it off? That could cause issues within the community, because I do not think La Marque people would like to see their high school and all of its history destroyed. I am not that familiar with the area, but that it is my guess.
They could vote to keep it the way it is if La Marque improves academically, but as I mentioned financially it would not make sense to keep the high school at their current population. Dallas ISD takes a lot of heat for having so many schools with a 3A district and a 6A district. It just does not work.
The third option that they could do is rezone in a year or two to have equal student population between the schools. As of now the two schools would be right on the cut line of 4A/5A. If they are both 4A then they would become dominant in district, but if they are both small 5As then it could be difficult in UIL just like if their was one 6A school. Once again, I only know of the rivalry from what I have read, but I do not know how Texas City folks would like having part of their town now zoned to La Marque. Especially the parents who grew up hating La Marque now watching their children playing for La Marque while still living in their hometown.
The final idea that could try is the Boerne method which is to have the schools close in population size but guarantee that the two schools are in separate classifications. While Boerne does it because they do not want a cross town rivalry, Texas City could do it because it would be the best option.
There are probably many more options, but nonetheless the fact is that is that the school board of Texas City will have to figure out a plan in the next couple of years and the plan will probably need to be presented to both communities so that the majority of Texas City and La Marque are accepting and their is no ill will.

Here's the problem with that. Texas City turned in an enrollment of 1.920 and La Marque 458 for this realignment. That means if Texas City absorbs them they would be at 2,370. The cut off for 6A this year was 2,149. So Texas City would become 6A.

The Texas City administration might not have a problem with that. But athletics wise they could be setting themselves up for some hard times. Who knows what they'll do, but that would be pretty good incentive to not consolidate the schools.

That I'm really not sure of. There may be some others on here that can answer that.

Just speculation, but I would think they'll still have a good group of athletes that stay. There will be some who everyone in their family has been a Cougar and that's what they want to be.

Yes, but to a lot of people it's about a sense of loyalty. That they stayed at a school when they could have moved on for other opportunities. Just like when they hired Thompson. They rewarded his patience and loyalty to "wait his turn". Foreman could have done the same and stayed on as a coordinate after Thompson took over.  Not saying I blame him for leaving at all. Just saying how a lot of people look at it

Sorry about that last post. It keeps messing up at quoting old post.  Anyway, Barney Fife, I don't knowif Foreman was or was not calling the plays, but there are a lot of head coaches that give someone the OC or DC title and they still call the plays.  Just because he gave him the title doesn't mean he gave him play calling duty. The coordinators get more money. So sometimes head coaches that know they will still call the plays just give the title to someone for money reasons, to run practice, etc. Or they might be "training" them to eventually take over calling plays.

For any of the HF fans out there, I heard today that former OC Zarosky ended up at Gregory Portland as the oline coach. Believe Rhoades was his high school coach at Cameron, so makes sense. Best of luck Coach Z.

I understand what you're saying. But most Texas High School football jobs average around 100 applicants. So call it maybe half this late...so 50 for this job. And they got 17... Again, there are 3A schools who pay their head coach in the 50's/60's who get 100 applicants. Most coaches would do anything for a shot at a head coaching job. It's very difficult to get your first one.  I'd think there are more than 17 in a 20 mile radius of Ozen who want to be a head coach and wouldn't even have to move their families.

17 applicants?? I know it's late, but if that's true it's embarrassing for BISD. There are 3A schools with more applicants than that at this point in the summer.

Should it always be in DFW? Definitely not. But right now AT&T is head and shoulders a better venue than Reliant. And the Alamodome isn't even in the ballpark. That's a big part of the issue.

I can promise you that Coach Babin has been  thinking about his next DC since the minute he knew Jehling was applying for jobs. He may not can officially do anything until Jehling was hired, but every Head Coach in America is planning that out the minute they know it could happen.
